Dyer Joins Burnley
Monday, 15th Feb 2016 18:01

Former Blues target Lloyd Dyer has joined Burnley, signing a contract to the end of the season.

The 33-year-old winger held talks with Town but, as reported last Tuesday, the two parties were unable to agree a deal.

Former Leicester and West Brom man Dyer left Watford a fortnight ago after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Guys .. It's not moaning for moaning sake and I'm sorry if you think it is but I feel we have deep rooted problems that will drag us down from the inflated position were in. If people are honest they will accept that our VERY VERY rich owner has underinvested in the playing staff in the last 4 years. They will accept that our manager plays utterly shocking hoofball with average and below average players who are often out of form and out of position. Some (not all) of these things are eminently avoidable and easily fixed but either mr tight wad or mr stubborn refuse to do so. Add to this that fans have been lied to and cheated out of money by promises of a real crack at promotion and by hugely over charging for total dross entertainment and it leaves a very sour taste.

I don't want to be negative and downbeat, I would love to be commenting on how well we played and how the team is gelling but all we EVER get is "there's no cash" "there is cash but we can't get better than we've got" "my players are hardest working in the league" "he's an inspirational leader" "the other team have some great players" "we can't compete with others' spending power"

All these things cover up our deficiencies and until those are addressed were in big trouble.

Whack on the downmarks if you want cos I'm clearly not a loyal supporter who should back the club manager and team no matter what but pardon me for being realistic about what are plain and simple facts that everyone can see if they take their tinted glasses off !!!!

We all want ITFC to succeed just some of us criticise glaring errors but that does not make us lesser supporters than the fans that are blinded to any problems.

We don't pay fee's because we pay well!!!! How did we attract chambers, skuse, Berra and pits? but we can't compete with a club that has premiership parachute payments!!!
We probably get about £500k per home game but we don't own the ground or training ground we pay rent which i can imagine is overpriced and I recall we were behind as we refused the hike in rent, business rates then non football staff have to be paid, policing and utility bills. Then we have u21 etc that need paying averaging 1k per week I would guess at, then coaches, pysio, fitness coach, ground staff etc then we have 20 or so players on between 10k and 4K per week.

So if Marcus did decide to splash cash we could break fair play rules or even worst we could become Bolton wanderers.
The answer is simple support the club even if you don't support Mick or Marcus get down to Portman road get attendance up from 17k to 25k this will fund a real promotion push.

Imagine
If you were wealthy, self made because you were a good business man. would you buy say Bolton wonders and put in millions every year to keep them afloat????

Then would you throw quite a few more every year in the hope of promotion???
If we brought in 10 players for say £5m each this would not guarantee promotion!!!!!
All this will guarantee is a higher wage bill which could Put the club at risk.

Senior pro past his best, but probably still very useful, going for the best deal he can get, while he still can. Nothing unacceptable about that at all. It's a tough old business and whilst these guys are mostly committed and passionate about the game, they also have to think about themselves and their families. Quite right too.

Bedsitfc ... I don't think the club can hide behind the FFP excuse anymore , what has happened to the likes of QPR , Boro , Leicester , Bournemouth for breaking the rules ?
Boro have roughly the same turnover as us and only a slightly higher wage bill yet they continue to sign players because Gibson is prepared to bankroll them , Evans could do
the same but he or MM choose not to , rightly or wrongly as it is his money .
I also agree that if we did spend on players it does not guarantee promotion but it does give you a much better chance as the majority who do spend in any league will be the ones near the top of the tables

Thank god most of you muppets don't own businesses, spending more than you take you'd go bust in weeks, why should football be any different? Marcus wants Ipswich to be viable, be around for YEARS to come. At least we still have the choice to buy plays like Sears, pitman etc. We could end up like forest, Bolton, Blackburn, having to rely on loans because we have an embargo. Don't like it go away we don't need "fans" like you.

Football is different it is not run like a normal business as they are set up on securitizations to enable clubs to borrow or secure loans against predictable and secure incomes like attendance , sponsorship, media ,club investment etc not run on weekly , monthly ,yearly money in money out . Hence many teams have been in dire financial difficulty but do not fold as businesses do .
And with the club trying to raise attendances I dont think telling other supporters to go away for having a different view of your own is very intelligent as that would cost the club 5 match day tickets for home games if I did so

@Surco72 I'm aiming my "go away" at the top blubbery who post nothing but negative posts. Also I doesn't matter about the way it's run like you say, the reason clubs don't go bust is because rich owners keep the banks off their arses. Then like Bolton, once the owner stops the s**t hits the fan, players/workers don't get paid and the club can go out of business unless it's saved. Any business can "survive" when someone pumps money in to it. But when a business is losing £5-10m each season you rely on the constant money input, something that isn't sustainable and I believe that the fa have missed a trick not pushing ffp properly.

Dyer probably spent 10 minutes on TWTD and after reading all the comments from the wingers, moaners surrounding the possible transfer thought he didn't need such negativity in his life.

Maybe it's just time to be realistic. We are a club that is on a fairly good financial footing who are competing at a pretty good level for the resources they have available. It's taken a while to recover from the mess that the Sheepshanks era ended up putting us in financially and personally I don't want my club to go through that again. Just being a pragmatist.

Some good points on here again and as ever it is a matter of opinions. I like the club being run on a sound financial footing. My issue is that to some degree you need to speculate to accumulate and this involves investing in youth and youth development, having better scouting and recruitment than our rivals and at the same time exciting and engaging with fans by playing attractive attacking football. This is where we are failing - the recruitment policy is a joke with a few exceptions like Mings and Sears. The U21s (and U18s) are a mess with some potentially good players being made to play dire football by what appears to be still more neanderthal coaches - I can't see Andre Dozzell staying around to play this. And as for the entertainment on match days???!!! We have players who can play football but a Manager who can't. The whole back line needs some serious scrutiny as this is where the problems start (no comfort on the ball, hoof!) as does central midfield.

How much do they have to spend on debts and rent for ground

Also goes to show as we have a small squad and established championship team (unfortunately) we pay very well to attract players

It looks like we pay well for a Championship team, all clubs who've been in the Prem recently pay a lot more.

I think Mick has made us punch above our weight for our limited budget.
Marcus Evans already invests money and we operate at a loss (to him) so we can't expect him to pump anymore money in.

I did think in January last year when we were near the top of the table, it would have been a worthwhile gamble to spend a £5m or so on a couple of players and hope the extra quality was enough to get us promotion

@DebenBlue Yes, I seriously do. A midfielder for sure and possible a striker. If not, the current team is one of 4 teams who have achieved 30 points or more since nov 1st and will hopefully make it into the playoffs.
