Ward Move Permanent Deal
Monday, 1st Aug 2016 12:54

TWTD understands that Town's move for Tottenham midfielder Grant Ward is a permanent deal rather than a loan, despite the 21-year-old having signed a new contract at White Hart Lane in February. Earlier, TWTD revealed that Ward is the player the Blues are hoping to sign today.

The Blues are believed to be set to pay the Premier League club £500,000 for the Lewisham-born wideman or central midfielder.

Ward joined the Spurs academy as a 10-year-old but hasn't made a senior appearance for the Premier League club. He spent time on loan with the Chicago Fire in 2014 and Coventry City a year later.

Last season he made 35 starts and eight sub appearances while on loan with Rotherham in the Championship, scoring twice.

Excellent news, signing promising youngsters and fast tracking players like Bishop,Dozzell etc.is exactly how a club like Ipswich can compete, just like it always was really.

The fans now need to be patient , bond with the team again and the future will be Blue

Can we all now acknowledge that the club really is trying to get players in.

Some of the conspiracy theories on here wouldn't be out of place in the national enquirer (or as the plot to one of Mel Gibsons better movies- the ones before he went mental)

Must be a positive move I hope he fits in and excels here for us,, some people are easily pleased for MM and Me to pay 500000 most postings already believe he is world class,I will reserve judgment but for now average championship quality from what I have seen.

and still there are Town fans who cannot grasp the principle of buying young talent and supplementing with are own academy talent.

This is an exciting change in focus, one we can buy into as fans.

Bluebell - That is an unusually thick comment from you! One is a player destined to never get near the first team who his club did not want or need, the other was a first team regular and VERY highly regarded by his club. Thus the fees!

Great signing. Presumably Luke Hyam will have provided some input as he'll have trained and played with him for a bit last season. And I guess Klug may have known him some years ago...

From Rotherham
Grant Ward

What a season this lad had for the Millers! A tireless runner and such an exciting player he was almost an ever present.

Joining in pre-season from Tottenham Hotspur firstly just on trial Steve Evans soon snapped him up on a six-month loan deal.

Grant made his debut in the opening game of the season scoring his first goal in October at home to Burnley, and what a cracker that was, and went on to score again in our Boxing Day four-nil win over Bolton. January saw his initial youth loan spell extended and made into a senior loan until the end of the season.

All in all Grant made forty-two appearances for Rotherham and in the end of season awards won the Young Player of the Year as well as getting the Goal of the Year for his strike against Burnley.

The twenty-one year old is now back with Spurs waiting to see what his future holds (with a lot of us Millers wishing it was back with us for another year!)

Really cracking news, and a perhaps something to instill a bit of positivity in the squad.

For once I am not feeling quite so pessimistic on how things are going.
And this being a permanent deal; it is certainly an improvement on what McCarthy has brought in before, i.e. old stagers and players with suspect ability.

He does bear quite a resemblance to Andy Cole ex Man Utd

One good thing is that we surely won't be seeing Maitland-Niles now!
This in itself is quite re-Ward-ing news
