Williams Set to Return
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 08:55

Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams is set to return to the Blues for a fourth spell.

The South London Press revealed the Blues' renewed interest in the 22-year-old this morning and TWTD understands that Wales international Williams is to rejoin on a season-long loan.

Talks are still ongoing but the deal is likely to go through with Town having hoped the signing might have been confirmed last night.

Williams initially joined the Blues in February 2014 and became a big fans' favourite during the remainder of that season.

The Pembury-born midfielder, who is contracted to Palace until 2018, returned in the September but had his spell curtailed by a thigh injury suffered in the Watford game in the November.

He came back to Town for a third spell late in the season but made only two sub appearances before suffering a recurrence of the problem in an U21s game.

Williams, who played for Wales at the European Championships in the summer, spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and with the MK Dons last season.

He suffered an ankle injury in pre-season and so is unlikely to be fit for a few weeks.

Town are looking to add strength in depth ahead of this evening's 11pm deadline with emergency loans not available to EFL clubs this season.

Williams is expected to be one of two or three signings today with the Blues also looking to add to their strikers with Daryl Murphy having left for Newcastle over the weekend. We understand bids have been lodged and discussions are likely to continue throughout the day.

A midfield including Jonny Williams and Ward. This is what we've needed for years. Imagine if Didz gets fit along with those two. Living in dreamworld but exciting times nonetheless

I hope this is not instead of getting a striker in .

It's a bit of a strange addition , considering the signing of Lawrence yesterday , the midfield is starting to look a bit full .....where does that leave players like Bishop ?

I'm not a fan of too many loans , much better to get players in that will be ours and progress with the club , therefore increasing in value

I assume this is because Palace are signing Wilshire.

We all love Jonny and he brings something else to the team. Hopefully he can keep fit and show the talent he showed in the Euros.

Our team is looking great now. Roll on Reading!

I wonder who will kick him off the park first, once he's recovered from his present injury of course.

Yes he has fitness issues but fingers crossed he'll get over these. A it Johnny Williams is a prem class player. Worth a gamble in my eyes.

Grant ward started out as a loan story, is it to much to dream that we might get him for a mill???

You lot are never satisfied, you'd probably still moan if we got Connor Wickham and Jordan Rhodes back this January. Really ruffle my feathers, so clueless its painful.. Honestly what are you waiting for this January? Ipswich have no money and the place is a complete chav pit so why would you want to come here? and why you surprised we struggle to get 'big name players' .. Ambition this, ambition that.. boring fickle town fans as per..

I honestly do not know what to think, great player, adds that little something special but is so injury prone, currently injured again so will not be available for a month i guess? the backroom boys are gonna be busy! would rather sign permanent players though.

If we have Jonny Williams for half a dozen games it would be worth it. agree with your comments Finidigeorge.

A bit Reminiscent of Daryl Murphy, how many times did he join us on loan before making it permanent?!

Would be a welcome addition, but not at the expense of any more arrivals. Still really hoping Mick gets that one signing that gets us all excited before 11pm.

Even if he only manages 20 games it would be worth it.

Such a shame that he's so injury prone - fantastic little player.

Decent squad being assembled . What about a cheeky enquiry about Benik Afobe at Bournmouth. Not playing regularly . good relations with Bournmouth (Mings and Fraser ) and he scored loads of goals for WOLVES.

FINIJIGEORGE:

Agree with your sentiment regarding transfers, but Ipswich a "chav pit"..?! You must not have traveled around much. There are considerably worse places to live than Ipswich, my friend. Why, I went to Clacton the other day...

I think if we signed Lionel Messi some on here would moan for the sake of it. A few months ago everyone wanted JW to sign. Now he possibly is signing let's have a good old winge about it (only directed to some on here of course -the wingers)

This is an excellent transfer and is very pleasing news. Seriously good move on the part of MM as he's very much a fan favourite. Now we seem to have a bit of money we are making good deals.

Signing sicknoteiesta is a plus if he can get fit and give us 15 games. We will have backup in case he breaks down - which we should expect unfortunately and I hope the Town management have included some protection in the contract for if and when he gets clattered again.

We still need an out and out striker. But, do you know what, I think we're starting to look better on paper. This is all coming together quite nicely. COYB

Sorry guys but I say no to Williams. His injured as usual which is to much of a risk. Why only on loan again. He was quality for us but with what I've mentioned I'd rather not

I'll take Jonny...quality player..our squad is big enough now, and if we can squeeze 25 games from Jonny, we will do well..

i think a lot are missing the picture regarding loans and temp signings , the objective is to get out of the championship and then like most clubs who want to survive in premiership you will need to sign almost a new team with the money you receive , how many of our players could really make the grade in the premiership ?
If Jonny plays half the games and gets us vital points and a chance of promotion that has to be worth a go ? And he is a player that excites and will attract the crowds back
