Williams Set to Return
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 08:55

Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams is set to return to the Blues for a fourth spell.

The South London Press revealed the Blues' renewed interest in the 22-year-old this morning and TWTD understands that Wales international Williams is to rejoin on a season-long loan.

Talks are still ongoing but the deal is likely to go through with Town having hoped the signing might have been confirmed last night.

Williams initially joined the Blues in February 2014 and became a big fans' favourite during the remainder of that season.

The Pembury-born midfielder, who is contracted to Palace until 2018, returned in the September but had his spell curtailed by a thigh injury suffered in the Watford game in the November.

He came back to Town for a third spell late in the season but made only two sub appearances before suffering a recurrence of the problem in an U21s game.

Williams, who played for Wales at the European Championships in the summer, spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and with the MK Dons last season.

He suffered an ankle injury in pre-season and so is unlikely to be fit for a few weeks.

Town are looking to add strength in depth ahead of this evening's 11pm deadline with emergency loans not available to EFL clubs this season.

Williams is expected to be one of two or three signings today with the Blues also looking to add to their strikers with Daryl Murphy having left for Newcastle over the weekend. We understand bids have been lodged and discussions are likely to continue throughout the day.

All the MM haters

A few years of settling the club down making us contenders without paying the Bucks out then when the club is ready bring in quality players.
I believe best can be a great signing if he and MM work together.

A lot of people proclaiming this is good news.

I see an alternate headline here:

'Town sign already-injured injury-prone player'

Not so sure on the good news there.

Perhaps McCarthy sees him as a mascot? He's about the size of one.

Why is it every one we get in comes with an injury and won't be fit to play for x number of weeks ,,love him as a player but is very injury prone and being the type of player he is gets targeted but beggars can't be choosers.

We are accumulating some really good footballers who will only add to the quality of our play
Grant , Ward , Webster , Bishop , Lawrence and Williams are all proper footballers

We suddenly have some attacking midfielders , something we have been crying out for , for years . A striker will be another good addition and whilst I would like a RB , if we get one more in I think we have ( potentially) one of the best transfer windows in years
Benik Afobe !!! good call - cheeky shout !

We just need a right back (which won't happen) and a target man to replace Murphy. We do tend to use long ball tactics a great deal during games, and I do fear all this quality will be wasted if we don't have someone who can win that ball. I am feeling quite positive overall with our signings. Ward, Grant, Williams, Best., Lawrence. Generally good business. But do need that target man. Pittman is a good player but he isn't that and neither is Lawrence. Varney can obviously play that role but really feel need someone else.

Try before you buy! Suss out his fitness while on loan then make it permanent in Jan. He looked fit in the euros if half a yard off the pace. His latest injury is a knock on the ankle and nothing to do with previous injuries. COYB

I think this window will tell us if the directors and the owner are taking low attendance seriously. If they are, I expect them to signg the type of players that most FANS come to see. Namely, exciting midfielders like Williams and the deadly striker yet to come........................
SUPPORTERS will always get to a game when they can afford to to watch the team, but if the hard core support is around 15,000 that ain't enough to get us to the promised land my friends..

I love Jonny Williams ....but desperately hope it doesn't turn out to be another Jimmy Bullard ...if we get a similar return from him that we saw in his first spell all will be delighted .....have a real fear though that this deal is a partial appeasement to the fans.
Money that we get in is now being spent on loans ....great if it brings success but if it doesn't they return to their original clubs and we have nothing to show for it
Where is our permanent young lower league striker who we can develop
Where is our permanent RB that we so desperately need
......really delighted that this transfer window is demonstrating real activity ...I just hope that post the final flurry we aren't looking back and saying the £3m we got from Murphy has given us nothing of our own.

We should sign Sammy Szmodics from down the road at Colchester! He would certainly get bums off seats!!

Mixed feelings. Good player, but no progress for the club.

I think this is positive, given his history of injuries, a season long loan is the best outcome. If he can avoid serious injuries over the season and shows the sort of form he had in the past - then a permanent signing in the summer would be great.

With Lawrence and Williams joining we don't need another striker - Pitman, Best and SEARS (back up front where he needs to be!) enough for now. Let's get a RB or a proper CM in!!!

Does this make Jonny Williams our most often signed player? Beating the likes of Tommy Smith, John Wark and Daryl Murphy?

Thought he was sharp in the Euros. I'd be very happy to see him back here as long as it doesn't stunt Bishop's progression.

After bringing in 2 forwards in Best and the loan... And still looking for a replacment for Murphy... Im just wondering if someone is likely to be leaving...? Its not really been spoke about and we have a lot of forwards on the books...
