No More Signings Before Window Closes
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 22:01

Town will not be making any further additions to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

The Blues have spent today primarily trying to negotiate a deal to sign a striker but we understand that having made a seven-figure bid they were unable to come to an agreement regarding a valuation with that player’s current club, who were keen to bring in a signing of their own before allowing the target to move on.

Another potential replacement for Daryl Murphy, who moved on to Newcastle for £3 million at the weekend, became available late this evening but with not enough time remaining to get a deal done.

The Blues will now wait until January before bringing in another striker to compete for a place in the Town attack with yesterday’s signings Leon Best and Tom Lawrence, and Brett Pitman, Freddie Sears, David McGoldrick and Luke Varney.

Previously, the Blues had a £1 million offer turned down by Barnsley for midfielder-turned-striker Marley Watkins, while another versatile attacking player was also on the Blues’ deadline day radar.

Having added Best, who signed a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign, and season-loan loanee Lawrence yesterday, Jonny Williams returning for his fourth loan spell, also for the season, was ultimately the only addition on the final day of the transfer window.

While the exit of a young player on loan was close at one stage, the only exit was Cameron Stewart, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Glad we've kept to the plan and not paid over the odds, shows real intelligence despite what most may think. Yes we do need a forward but we can't just spend over the odds for someone. Williams, and Lawrence add very strong competition to our starting 11 and best adds decent cover and could well do more. Well done all at the club for your efforts!

Best will do until January in fact if he listens to TC could be an absolute asset. I did here a rumour about Niklas Bendtner. Who knows but I feel quietly confident. I bet Kightly signs on new years day.

Promises of Murthy money being reinvested just a lie . Milne should resign for blatantly misleading fans.

We're still a lot stronger than we was few days ago so overall happy with what we got but can't help thinking could of done with a stricker..... Up or down follow the town.

This was always going to be a tricky one. Had Murphy been sold a couple of weeks ago we might have had the time to get the right man in. We go with what we've got and it's not all bad news - the squad IS stronger -it's just a question of getting the right mix out on the pitch.
As for the transfer window process itself - this is a ridiculous way to run a sport. In my view the window should close one week before the start of the season.

More lies.... Never ending, we always fall short in getting deals done.

No worries Scuse and Dougie will create enough for our current Employees to feast on!!!!

Sorry but it's not even funny. Yes we made some good signings but seriously how long have we had £3 million wasn't as if we got it today? So yet again we have a manager and owner that can't spend money? Yet we read about dodgy deals taking place with our owner labelled in the dodgy Olympic deals but can't spend money on players we need? Cheers Marcus for......?

We have plenty of attacking options given we only play one up front. Not sure Best is gonna be any good but let's give him a chance. But really should have got hold of a new striker in since Murphy left. Brett Pitman will get plenty of games this season, and hopefully Freddie will get to play in the middle. Plus we have Joniesta. I'll never forget that goal against Derby. Fourth loan, he must join us permanently next season!

No Murphy replacement should mean the end of hoofball. So many midfielders I'm now worried MM won't know who his best midfield will be. We seem to have a large squad now but certainties for team positions will not change overnight and I expect MM to stick thereabouts with the ones he knows. I'm still fed up that RB position has not been addressed unless Emmanuel has a future there, I'd have liked to have a player who is experienced in that role come in. It seems the Murphy money like departing players before him has been used up in wages of many loans to have a big squad, many of which probably won't play much. I don't call this team building.

To say I'm disappointed would be a slight understatement, I commented last week saying that if we could replace Murphy then sell him. Unfortunately I'm not hugely confident that Best will be that replacement and so for me its a step backwards from where we could have been! I think MM had his target replacements but was probably too stubborn when it came to negotiating with other clubs. Lets not go all crazy until we see what our new additions actually do though COYB!

Disgusting. I knew it was just talk when Milne said there would be money to spend. Same old story. No ambition to get out of this league.

Marcus Scrooge. Sell the club to someone with at least 2 or 3 % enthusiasm in football. Then go to Brazil and stay there with the other criminals.

........ perhaps some of you will now realise what false confidence is - you should have known better to expect anything more than loans and freebies.

Which is exactly what you've got. MUGS for expecting more - or not ?

Really underwhelming. We just don't have enough goals in the team to sustain a real challenge unfortunately. Think everyone knows we are crying out for a striker but a real shame we couldn't get anyone. Really not optimistic about our chances this season now. We have lots of creative midfielders now but only Pitman who is realistically going to get the goals and we can't rely on one player, what if he gets injured? Just a really disappointing day to be an Ipswich fan :(

Gingerblues. Do you honestly think the club balances it's books before player sales?????
If you do your incredibly nieve.
Our deficit is in the region of 6 million per season. That's 18 over 3. Do you still think ALL the money is pocketed? ?
Wish it was different but fact is it isn't. Let's stop moaning and get behind the ones wearing the shirt and stop sagging them off.

I think best will do a good job against the lower league table teams and score some goals etc but lets support the team I am sure we will do well Tom Lawrence can play as a striker so not the end of the world...

If we are in the top 6 in jan we should buy a £1/2ml striker

More lies from our wonderful club will never go up whilst run by Evans now he can watch attendances fall as we struggle as Joe royle said years ago u need good forwards to get out of the division
