No More Signings Before Window Closes
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 22:01

Town will not be making any further additions to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

The Blues have spent today primarily trying to negotiate a deal to sign a striker but we understand that having made a seven-figure bid they were unable to come to an agreement regarding a valuation with that player’s current club, who were keen to bring in a signing of their own before allowing the target to move on.

Another potential replacement for Daryl Murphy, who moved on to Newcastle for £3 million at the weekend, became available late this evening but with not enough time remaining to get a deal done.

The Blues will now wait until January before bringing in another striker to compete for a place in the Town attack with yesterday’s signings Leon Best and Tom Lawrence, and Brett Pitman, Freddie Sears, David McGoldrick and Luke Varney.

Previously, the Blues had a £1 million offer turned down by Barnsley for midfielder-turned-striker Marley Watkins, while another versatile attacking player was also on the Blues’ deadline day radar.

Having added Best, who signed a one-year deal with an option for a further campaign, and season-loan loanee Lawrence yesterday, Jonny Williams returning for his fourth loan spell, also for the season, was ultimately the only addition on the final day of the transfer window.

While the exit of a young player on loan was close at one stage, the only exit was Cameron Stewart, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent.

I am sure some think itfc have been just sat counting 3million over and over then last day of window decide they should spend it!

We identify targets!
Approach clubs
Some refuse to sell
Some are willing to enter negotiations
Agents get involved looking for better deals from everybody
Clubs come to an agreement
It's then put to the player
Some won't want to move from club
Some won't want to leave area
Some won't fancy dropping a division

Plus all the other politics
It all takes time

More lies from our wonderful club will never go up whilst run by Evans now he can watch attendances fall as we struggle as Joe royle said years ago u need good forwards to get out of the division

So predictable Evans brings in a fans favourite on loan (keep em sweet),make a couple of bids so it looks like he was willing to spend the money. We know we can't compete financially on the same level as the Newcastle's & Villa's of this league but lets at least give ourselves a chance & re-invest proceeds made on player sales. If we wasn't sure we could get a deal done then don't sell. Very disapointing!

Should have had Bradshaw or Gregory in during the summer... if we can appraoch Christmas in the top half it is a priority in the FIRST WEEK of the new year, not Janury 31st.... Pitman won't be able to play all the games and Sears and Varney struggle to score

Not asset stripping if making a loss each year (even after transfers).

since Murphy gone, nb 1 priority is to replace him! ..............monumental failure not to get anyone in, do they want to get out of this league or what?

So we let our number one striker go with no proper replacement? That is very bad news and its hard to see how we will challenge for promotion like this. Best, Lawrence and Williams all sound sensible signings, but all are low cost options with the latter two being loans, one of whom is injured until October.

So unless Best comes good, we are reliant on Pitman up front. I like Brett, but he was mainly a substitute last season and he will need to improve his fitness and stay fit.

I guess we could still sign a free agent striker. Out-of-contract will be able to command bigger salaries now the transfer window has closed.

Get out of are club Marcus Evans what a lack of ambitions are so called chairman has shown sold Murphy for 3 million but won't sign a player cos he cost a few million don't think he wants to get in premiership I think it would be best if sold the club and let someone else come in and spend some money

I'll take the business we have done.. Not bad at all.. And a big plus being we will now play Sears as a centre forward.. That's like a new signing in itself!

Lightningboy - There's something seriously wrong if you were hoping for Bendtner!

Quite happy....Murph has done little since 2014/15. Lets abide our time rather than waste on players who don't want to come here. Johnny...you beauty. We need Sears to put on his shooting boots and give Pittman the chance to lead the line.Goals are now coming from the midfield and Smith knows where the goal is.

Disappointed we haven't replaced Murph, but time for Sears and Pitman to step up- which I believe they can! Bit peed that we were lead on by the club and EADT journos on social media too, which is part of the reason we are all a bit deflated ! Made some great young signings imo and think we will see a much different style at PR with the forwards and midfeilders we now have! COYB!!

Some of our fans are ridiculous, he was prepared to spend but either the club's or player weren't interested. Murphy was becoming lame and not productive, £3m plus £1m add on if Newcastle are promoted is good business. We have signed some promising young attacking midfielders which we funnily enough were crying out for.... If they produce pitman and sears will score.

So as I predicted another 3M into the Evans PLC account. It's a good job we don't own the ground cos that would have been sold by now. Time for EVANS OUT direct action

Yes we should have gone for Bradshaw or Gregory earlier in the summer but had Murph and McGoldrick so didn't feel the need. We've brought in one good young defender and 4 exciting young creative players (albeit 3 on loan) and as far as I can tell were in for a young striker. Against the grain and therefore surprising but welcome a the same. Get Freddie back up top where he belongs and watch the goals go in 👍😃⚽️

The signings we have made are decent, but I just don't see where the goals are going to come from. If the club say we have McGoldrick to come back from injury, I will scream. No ambition from Evans as per usual. No more excuses about 'not paying over the odds' please Mr Evans. Let's see if you can get that attendance below the 13,000 mark.

I can see it now , Milne telling us they have spent money to get the loan players in - and then at the end of the season they walk away and leave us scratching around for freebies again .

The 3m should have been spent on a Murphy replacement , these loan players won't come cheap and with so many midfielders now , some won't even make the starting 11 - that's poor use of our limited funds

"with that player's current club, who were keen to bring in a signing of their own before allowing the target to move on"

So why the f&ck didn't we do that with Murphy ?????? Yet another load of bullsh1t from Evans & Milne. What an absolute pair of idiots you are. So we replace Murphy with Best. Pathetic !!! Got 35 midfielders now but no one to put the ball in the net. Pitts cant do 90 mins, Sears couldn't score in a brothel due to being ruined by the manager and Didz injured.

It's ok we will wait till January. Too flippin late !!! And don't take us for mugs. We last brought someone in January in about 1987. Rediculous lies again from the top of our club. Funds available for transfer fees but they still find their way to only one place, Evans' pocket.

An utter joke !!!!!!!!!!!!!
