McCarthy: Loanee Grant So Versatile
Tuesday, 11th Oct 2016 06:00

Blues manager Mick McCarthy says he’s pleased to have versatile season-long loanee Conor Grant in his squad but says the Everton man is currently being kept out of the side by the form of other players.

Grant, 21, joined the Blues at the start of August but has made only three starts and two sub appearances so far with a groin injury having sidelined him for a month.

McCarthy says the former England U18 international can play anywhere across the midfield but in addition to the injury has seen his opportunities limited by the form of other players.

“He can play any one of them, I think,” the Town boss said. “In a three in the middle, but bearing in mind Skusey and Dougie have been playing so well, Kevin Bru has.

“He could play in a 4-4-2 when we’ve got two up top, he did against [Derby]. If you’ve got two up top I think he can play in a four. He’s a versatile player and it’s nice to have that type, to be honest with you.”

The form of other players? "Skusey and Dougie have been playing so well". Absolutely unbelievable. We are crying out for some creativity and this lad along with Bishop and Dozzell have hardly had a kick. Give them a chance! I would rather lose by actually trying to play football and giving our younger players a chance than grind out a 0-0 bore draw with Mick's 'star men'. So so frustrating..

MM is an absolute joke. He thinks the team is watched by blind men every week.
Kevin Bru has been woeful in every game he has played, with Skuglas not much better.
No flair, no tac tics, NO GOALS

Idiot idiot idiot !!!!! Dinosaur you're a complete and utter imbecile. You have totally lost it. You've lost the fans and you will lose the dressing room. He is being kept out by the form of others ???? WTF are you taking about man. I'm sick of it. "Skusey and Dougie have been playing so well, Kevin Bru has" that just tops all the other utter bull you've come out with. Skuse & Douglas are both a joke. They are the root of our problems (apart from the most obvious one - YOU) it is because of their lack of pace ability creativity skill passing or forward thinking that we hav scored no goals for a month. We have Bish Grant award Lawrence Dozzell etc but you leave them out or substitute them in favour of carthorse dross.

You've truly lost the plot once and for all. Just get lost before you embarrass our club even more then Han you already have you total and utter berk.

😢😢😢

Watch out Conor, you could find yourself playing at right back!!!!...... Oh hold on a minute, I forgot, that's not likely to happen, because for that to happen MM would have to actually admit that Chambers isn't good enough in that position!!!

I'm repeating what most say on here I no but we can't all be wrong!!Niether has a turn of pace ,can't pass forward ,cannot dominate a game physical and are absolutely NO goal threat!!! HELLO no goals in a moth! If I was Connor I'd be knocking on mm's door. What ever MM tactics are he's given it long enough time to change. It won't happen arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! So frustrating!!!!! COYB

MM you need to have a serious rethink on team selection in the next few weeks, and you watch webster will be fit so josh will have a mysterious injury so chambers will be right back again you watch

Wow! Keep playing Skuse, Douglas and Bru over the likes of Grant and Bishop and the respect and fans you have left Mick will soon disappear. With results and more importantly performances so poor this is the most alarming thing I have read so far! Your time is up MM.

I seriously think he believes this himself, what a fool, this is the main reason he has to go for me, and he's had 2 weeks to pop into specsaver, to stubborn to admit he can't see all the way from dug out to centre of park .

Sorry to say it but after those pearls of wisdom from the manager we know where this club is heading as he will carry on with his ridiculous selection policy, he really doesn't know what he's doing and needs to get a grip(preferably of his suitcase handle)

Reading these comments, it seems like the international break has done nothing to calm anyone down about our recent form! MM needs a good result at the weekend, otherwise this is only going to get worse!

Yes Mick Grant is a good player however if you seriously think Skuse, Douglas & Bru have been in better form than him then you have well & truly lost it. They can block & defend but offer NOTHING going forward, they will not go forward with the ball or provide a link to the front 3 who are isolated every match often becoming second full backs just to try and get hold of the ball. These tactics are why we're not scoring goals & as a result not winning matches. Until YOU change those tactics Mick things will not improve

Oh yes, that scintillating form the other players have been in would've kept Messi out of the side, wouldn't it?! The number of goals they've created, we must be way out front of other teams in the goals scored column, and the style in which they just caress the ball around, with the opposition looking on, knowing they won't have a sniff of it when they're playing like that... Conor must be sitting there mesmerised by it, just waiting for his chance, waiting for Bru to make a misplaced pass or something, however unlikely that may be...

Ditto a lot of the above.

I have suggested restraint & tried to be balanced over the last few months re MM. Can't do that now I'm afraid. Skuse, Bru & Douglas doesn't work. One is fine - Skuse in my view - but 3 layers who can't create isn't.

I am normally an optimistic person but not today. Well play the same team at Blackburn & lose. Of course I hope I'm wrong. Nearly 45 years supporting ITFC & cant remember being so depressed.

He's got the hump now (as evidenced by comments after the Norwich game) and is just trying to wind us all up, looks like you're all taking the bait.

WOW I Have always been a pro Mick but he has lost the plot and now!

What has he been watching ?
It sure doesn't sound like it's the same games everyone else has.

Evans man up and save the town fans from having to take anymore suffering

No disrespect or offence meant to any of the players, but here is more evidence of why we have the most idiotic, deluded and ridiculous excuse for a manager in the league.

Please join in a move to get him out of our once proud football club.

McCarthy OUT

Hahahaha you couldn't make this up. Skuse, Douglas and Bru in form? This just confirms that he's completely lost his marbles! All these clowns making the papers and we have one as manager.

Hopefully Mick will also follow the lead of Southgate and Mourniho and drop the captain. No automatic first on the team sheet, no matter what your role.

I normally read the comments to news posts and cringe, this time I read the article and cringed and agree with the comments. If this is Skuse, Douglas and Bru in form it's simply not good enough. Grant must be wondering what the hell he has got to happen for him to get a chance!

MM must of woken up this morning and thought what can i do to wind the fans up... I know i'll tell them I think what great form Skuse, Douglas and Bru are in !!! Mans an idiot

So as Towns alarming goal drought of a slide takes us nearer and nearer the bottom 3 MM is going to carry on with the same old woeful midfield! Good midfielders create, make assists, score some goals, get ahead of their forwards several times a match. Great midfielders score lots of goals into the bargain (Warky eg). It is now essential MM solves the m/f crisis with goals drying up from our forwards. Conor Grant should defo be in it - he played well at Brentford.

Hmmmm. Beginning to feel that Mick has lost the plot.

You cannot be serious, man! (Said in a John McEnroe voice).
