Knudsen Fit as McCarthy Hints at Changes at Wigan
Thursday, 15th Dec 2016 10:36

Left-back Jonas Knudsen will be fit for Saturday’s away game against second-bottom Wigan Athletic having missed Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Birmingham with a tight hamstring.

“He should be back," Blues manager Mick McCarthy said. “I’m expecting him to be all right, that was the prognosis, he was only going to miss the one game.”

Myles Kenlock did well in the Danish international’s place on Saturday and McCarthy didn’t rule out sticking with the 20-year-old academy product, while also hinting that he could shuffle his pack.

“He played well, I was really pleased with him,” the Town boss added. “We’ll see, there might be a few changes. I’ll have a look.”

Midfielder Teddy Bishop has been ruled out for up to a month with an ankle injury, while Tommy Smith (back), Luke Hyam and Giles Coke (both knee) are all recovering from surgery, while Paul Digby (also knee) is out until January.

McCarthy admitted he was amazed to hear that Gary Rowett had been relieved of his duties at St Andrew’s only a day after the Blues’ visit with the Midlanders’ new owners subsequently appointing Gianfranco Zola as boss.

“I spoke to Gary yesterday, I rang him and he got back to me quite late last night,” McCarthy continued. “I just said to him, ‘Thank goodness we didn’t win’ tongue-in-cheek, of course.

“I said to him that I tend not to get surprised with what happens in football, but that did shock me.

“I guess if you’ve got new owners, they want to change it. I’m amazed, though. I’m astounded by it because I think he was doing a particularly good job.

“And he’s a really good guy, Gary, I’ve a lot of time for him. I said to him,’Enjoy your Christmas, you’ll get a job pretty soon’.

“When you’ve lost your job you don’t feel like that if you’re that person. He’ll get another job, he’ll be back in football PDQ, don’t you worry.”

Come on Evans! Sack Mick and bring in Rowett! Do it before another club snaps him up before it's too late!!! How bad does it have to get to make a change?!

Yes the sacking of Gary Rowett is shocking. A bit like sacking Jim Magilton straight after we beat Norwich.

Change is afoot:
Skuse & Douglas will be dropped and Douglas & Skuse will be brought in.

We all know Knudsen will replace Kenlock even though he sounded like he played better than Knudsen ever has for us so far. Such a shame that I guarantee Gary Rowett will go to Norwich as new manager and not us. Young, ambitious manager who plays young players.

Yes, Rowett is essentially McCarthy-Lite, so we certainly don't want him here : but I suspect, in due course, that is exactly what will happen.

He has hinted at changes before;but not made them.Think it may be different this time, hope he doesn't drop Kenlock though.

Think Rowett just younger version of McCarthy

Ken lock should retain his place. Skuse, Douglas, Varney and Chambers are weak links.

Hang on for a bit, then Southgate will be available

I'm not so sure Rowett is the answer but at least ALL players would get a fresh start and he would (hopefully) pick the best players in their correct positions.
I too think that 352 is our best formation. It would release full backs to attack and only allow one defensive midfielder.

I would have Rowett as manager myself ..

He is pragmatic and realistically if the owner does change the manager is he really likely to give him loads of money to spend?

Agree with Pilgrimblue that new pair of eyes might mean some of the shoe in players will have to play for their places

However given the choice I would rather have Chris Wilder from Sheffield Utd or if as rumour is he fancies a go at club football my first choice would be Michael O'Neill from NI. Not sure we would get either though..

The way I'm feeling at the moment anyone will do, just to relieve the boredom. What we do need is somebody with the balls to grab this club by the scruff of the neck and kick it up arse for good measure. I have vowed not to go to another match until MM is gone. Its worse than watching paint dry. SO SAD. The way Wigan played in the second half against Newcastle we will be in trouble on Saturday. Odds on a draw!

ALERT!!! Fans who wholeheartedly would like to see a change of ownership and/or manager -- and sooner rather than later (as in "yesterday"!) -- clearly NEEDS to do something very like the Coventry fans just did about 20 minutes ago, it's that simple!!!

And lo and behold even the Sky commentators present actually condoned it 100%!!!

And while I completely endorse the ongoing Anti-MM E-mail "campaign" that floods ME alleged inbox these days.... well provided it really is indeed one of Evan's WORKING accounts it will not go unoticed I'm dead sure!, but on the hand is's highly unlike it will be remotely enough to sway our football clueless & indifferent owner all on it's own.

Alas those fans who are truly and steadfastly fed-up beyond repair i.e. t "true rebellious" fans here, really need to carefully organize & coordinate such a stadium protest (similar to what the Coventry fans seemingly have done tonight), obviously for the sake of it having MAXIMUM EFFECT ... also on both the local and mainstream media!

PS: Those who are not watching the 1 .division clash live, can undoubtedly see reruns of this here Coventry stadium protest -- which took place while the match was ongoing btw?! (personally I missed the first 8 minutes so don't know what happened before kick-off)! -- all night and morning long.

The biggest problem in football ? capitalism has spilled its ugly guts all over it. Firstly Sky, which in turn attracted the likes of Evans and many more. Greedy capitalists have really taken their toll on country in general. Football is a business now, owners, board members, managers and players are all money motivated, give me the 70's football all day long.
What did Lenin say, capitalism will destroy itself through greed! Heading that way, just a travesty when you see many of the undeserved casualties!

Weevil, crack in post, really mad me laugh - but so true.

Muhrens left foot - yep it was a disgrace sacking Magilton like that and our curse? We haven't beaten Norwich since!

As for Rowett unlucky to lose his job & McCarthy must be shocked as he knows he sidling slot worse & has managed to survive but as Weevil said, just maybe our illustrious owner doesn't have access to a phone in his Brazillian prison cell?'!

But joking aside, I wouldn't want Rowets style any more than I want McCarthys.

MickszzzTactics has a good point, what has happened to fan power? We should stage a walkout 15minutes from the end or turn our backs on the pitch?

Has anyone still got a pair? I have never been so bored at PR, the buzz has gone out of the ground, it feels as bad now, as it did when RK was in charge.

If Knudsen comes straight back in it will tell you all you need to know about Mick ..... or at least to those who still cling to the "Mick saved us" line.
Yes he probably did ..... but now he's taking us nowhere !!!!
Youth, creativity, flair, attack minded football, positive approach, pride in your team...... remember all those things ??!!?

I fully expect there to be changes
Knudsen for Kenlock
Sears for Ward
Pitman for Varney
I hope that I am wrong and Mick tries to win the game, but I doubt it.
These are the three easy players to drop as they are the easiest to substitute week in week out. No one is upset (senior player wise) and Mick has made changes as promised.
