Town Linked With Loan Move for Fulham Striker
Wednesday, 28th Dec 2016 16:01

Town are reportedly keen to sign Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow on a six-month loan.

According to The Sun, former England U17, U20 and U21 international Woodrow is top of the Blues’ January wish-list and will available on a short-term deal.

The 22-year-old is out of favour at Craven Cottage with his last appearance having come in the EFL Cup defeat to Bristol City in September, while he has made only one Championship start this season.

The 6ft ½in tall striker played youth football with Spurs, Buckhurst Hill and Luton - with whom he made his first three senior appearances as a sub in the FA Trophy - before joining the then-Premier League Whites in March 2011 for a fee which was set to hit seven figures after top-ups.

Having spent time out on loan with Southend in League Two, where he made 10 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring four times, Hemel Hempstead-born Woodrow made his Premier League debut for Fulham in a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff in March 2014.

Woodrow, who is contracted to Fulham until June 2018 with the club having an option for a further season, has made 28 starts and 37 sub appearances for the Whites, scoring 12 goals.

A striker to replace Daryl Murphy, who departed for Newcastle towards the end of the summer transfer window, is the Blues' top priority during January.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth sources have confirmed that the deal which saw Adam Webster join the Blues from Pompey in the summer included a clause which will see the League Two club receive 20 per cent of the Blues' profit if the centre-half is sold.

Webster, who was signed for a fee of £700,000 plus Matt Clarke, has been linked with a number of Premier League sides in recent weeks, including Sunderland and Everton, but Town are unlikely to sell during the January window.

Time for the use of two banal cliches.
1. Whether this lad is any good or not, if we sign him, it's simply rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic .
2. The Elephant in the room is in actually MM. This must be addressed first before anything else.

Why are people moaning, we signd Johnny and he sat on the bench therefore our new potential signing from Fulham will also sit on the bench. There's no way he will get a head of Douglasmessi.

Channel 5 the other night summed it all up---they did not actually use the word pathetic but everyone could see and hear this is what they meant.

I tipped off the club about a dutch striker last week, 18 goals in 20 games and will probably be in their price range----see if anything happens.

Ianmarshall10 are you a shareholder? Have you been a Town fan since the 60s?
If you are I'm very surprised that you're not as angry as most of the rest of us.

MM has stated he's given ME a list of players to target in January.Instead of picking the bones out of every name that crops up,doesn't it make more sense to be judgemental at the end of January? How everything is the fault of MM is beyond me.Swansea are a good example,i.e. sacking Managers solves nothing unless the Board changes their thinking too.Nobody could do a much better job than MM without serious funding.I would suggest a lot of Managers may do a lot worse.MM tried expansive football at the beginning of the season to watch the team get beat.ITFC simply haven't got the players needed to play better football.People for for shouting for MM to play Dozzell but he's not yet able to contribute a lot over a full 90mins.Douglas just got a game because of injuries.Everything isn't the fault of MM,the lack of transfer money is the root cause.

Geminimustang - agree that the symptoms point to a more serious problem. The board isn't giving MM the financial backing he deserves, which leads to us consistently bringing in average or low quality signings on frees. These signings then prove to be unimaginative and rarely improve the overall quality of the playing squad. Also agree with you about the expansive football. I was there when we got destroyed 5-4 by AFC Sudbury when we tried passing football. Kenlock and Emmanuel were continually beaten and in the end Sudbury out passed us and out played us. Pre-season friendlies were a sign of what was to come, though fans lived in hope when we beat Barnsley on the first day of the season. But I don't think it's all due to transfer money. A few months back I watched on TV Stromsgodset vrs Rosenborg (I was bored). Stromsgodset played great football and won the game 2-0. I later learned they were playing in the europa league. And who are they playing at right back? You've probably already guessed-Jonathan Parr. Not good enough for us as either LB or RB but now plays against the likes of Partizan Belgrade and Hajduk Split as RB. And what about Kevin Foley? Great signing by MM who balanced our midfield and could play RB. We then went and gave him away for nothing to Charlton. He is now being talked about as potential player of the season for them and is likely to get an extended deal (we should re-sign him if possible). And let's not start on Toure and Coke, Stewart, Oar, Alabi and all the other players we signed and then were quickly gone. Signing players who you are unsure of isn't a good strategy, as we have discovered time and time again when we have released them. Sam Ford- one of our best young prospects- released on a free and ends up at West Ham. Yes,MM gets it right occasionally but he also gets it very wrong. I'd prefer Parr or a Foley to Chambers at RB for a start. Our tactics are also predictable and opposition know our team tactics all too well. Often mind numbing tactics which are losing young fans.

A while back jas0999 listed all the players we have released and signed. We have lost a massive amount of squad depth in the last few years.

Worth reading Harry From Bath's report on the upcoming Bristol City game. Bristol City fans don't think much of our team or tactics!

Christ on a bike!!!???? What and why are we after a Fulham reserve player??? No disrespect to the player but come on.Why are we not looking to buy a player who is actually (I don't know ) SCORING!!!.I know these players cost but a lower league player who's big and strong with pace must be about???This is truely desparate times at Portman rd,as someone else mentioned this is like Keane and Jewel, loan, loan, loan.Im going Friday night more out of habit than actually looking forward to it and that's so sad for me to say!!! We are all torturing ourselves on here as nothing we say will change while MM still in charge arrrrrrrrr ffs!!! As always coyb

Maddening! But what do you expect from an owner and manager who apparently don't give a flying f***

I need another dartboard, not only one with Mick McCarthy's face on it, but another with Marcus Heavens on it!!!! Whatever is going on? Has the club contracted laryngitis as us fans can't hear a damn thing???? I'm not going to step foot in Portman Road until Heavens sacks McCarthy, and puts his hand into his pocket and backs the new manager. If he can't do that then please just sell!!!! He's lost so much goodwill standing by McCarthy during these dark times and leaving us in the dark. How can he back a man serving up such poor football? He had so much good favour with the fans when he took over. A lot of us thought he was a Messiah. But sadly the faith so many of us invested him has been chipped away to the bone. His managerial appointments have been woeful! It's not completely too late to restore the faith but time is running out and he needs to demonstrate he has serious intentions of helping Ipswich get back on track again. So please Marcus do what needs to be done and sack McCarthy and get somebody in who will implement a much improved playing style to win back the fans oh and please please please get a manager who will give the youth a chance to shine. Let's return to the Ipswich tradition as right now we are further away from it than I can ever recall in my entire life!

Oh ye of simple minds, why do you all believe everything that the papers say. If we sign him you can then have a winge if you like.
I will only believe a signing when I see a photo of a player holding an Ipswich shirt.

Thanks for your reply which i agree with.I like sensible and logical thinking and not ill thought comments that roll off the tongue en-masse from the OUT-MM brigade.

Big shake up required to inspire our under achievers.. at least 4 additions needed. Won't happen though, as we will get a win in the new year and the numpties running our once great but now crumbling club, will think it's all a lovely bed of roses at 'sleepy' Ipswich.
