Town Linked With Loan Move for Fulham Striker
Wednesday, 28th Dec 2016 16:01

Town are reportedly keen to sign Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow on a six-month loan.

According to The Sun, former England U17, U20 and U21 international Woodrow is top of the Blues’ January wish-list and will available on a short-term deal.

The 22-year-old is out of favour at Craven Cottage with his last appearance having come in the EFL Cup defeat to Bristol City in September, while he has made only one Championship start this season.

The 6ft ½in tall striker played youth football with Spurs, Buckhurst Hill and Luton - with whom he made his first three senior appearances as a sub in the FA Trophy - before joining the then-Premier League Whites in March 2011 for a fee which was set to hit seven figures after top-ups.

Having spent time out on loan with Southend in League Two, where he made 10 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring four times, Hemel Hempstead-born Woodrow made his Premier League debut for Fulham in a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff in March 2014.

Woodrow, who is contracted to Fulham until June 2018 with the club having an option for a further season, has made 28 starts and 37 sub appearances for the Whites, scoring 12 goals.

A striker to replace Daryl Murphy, who departed for Newcastle towards the end of the summer transfer window, is the Blues' top priority during January.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth sources have confirmed that the deal which saw Adam Webster join the Blues from Pompey in the summer included a clause which will see the League Two club receive 20 per cent of the Blues' profit if the centre-half is sold.

Webster, who was signed for a fee of £700,000 plus Matt Clarke, has been linked with a number of Premier League sides in recent weeks, including Sunderland and Everton, but Town are unlikely to sell during the January window.

Yet another can't score won't score hapless forward on his way then, MM always thinks he knows best and can turn a duck into a swan, Digby, Toure, Coke, Varney, Best, Dougie....still quacking about doing nothing, where's the young talent from the lower leagues ?? Someone on top of his game and the hunger to step up, this 3-point plan of quality youth to take us forward.....he seems to trust himself only with defenders of quality when taking a punt(Webster, Mings)because he was a defender himself, but as for having an eye for a striker who we desperately need he doesn't trust himself it seems...

Give it up Mick, give a younger fresher more forward thinking guy a chance, we're starting to hate you and none of us wanted that I'm sure.

Why is it we always include a nice big % sell on fee when we sign players but forget to do the same when we sell? Pompey confirming that they have 20%.... See you then Webster! On another note - you can't beat the 'I'm a bigger fan than you' idiots on here... Does that mean you're more to blame for the sh*t that's going on PR ATM? 😂😂

ianmarshall10 ........... seems as if you are one too.

Just keep being happy chappie ....... Evans and McCarthy will love you for it - which is probably all you really care about ........ NOT THE FUTURE of the Club, and past reputation of such.

Sad thing is we have far too many like you that will accept anything - and keep coughing up ....... or do you ??

What bull you can't transfer debt from co to co to alievate tax liability. He is keeping to FFP rules not wishing to dump more cash in - fair enough. Rolling up the debt is normal practice keeps the assest at appropriate value. Personally my issue is with MM inability to provide any entertainment or try any youth for any period of time. What's to lose.

Does he fullfil micks scouting wish list

Over 6 foot - yes

Can he head a ball - yes

Is he over 30 - no

Is he Irish - no

Is he "a character" - potentially

Can't see this happening based on that criteria

This is NO for so many reasons:

1- We are giving significant money to another Championship Club with no return on it in June
2- if he does well Fulham can sell him to someone else in the Summer at a much higher cost
3- if he does badly then Fulham have had his wages paid for a while and no harm done: good deal Fulham
4- loans is not the way forwards.
5- he is nowhere near the first team of another Championship Club.
6- he's not exactly prolific as a striker even in goals scored or assists

Based on others who have come in he "won't be match fit" until mid March!!! Might make the odd cameo appearance as a sub.

Had a look at Fulhams chat zone to see what they thought about the deal. Fun Reading. Main points were:

1- fans were arguing about how much we should pay for him at the end of the deal. Figures: 6-8 million. They based this on???
2- they think he's over-rated
3- they want to sell him urgently
4- most thought he would go on loan to a League 1 or 2 club
5- they think he is surplus to requirements

Here we go again !! Another typical short term signature costing no money that will only please Marcus Evans. The "no thrills" 6 month loan experiment to try and salvage McCarthys season. Not a signing for the future and not a signing that will get the supporters down to Portman Road. It begs the question why the strikers we do have are constantly in and out of the team and a midfield doing nothing to support attacking play ? What is going on at this club? ITFC needs to make quality signings and no more loan deals that do nothing for the future of this club. Is this part of the 3 point plan or has that not started yet ?

To be fair this is just another newspaper report at the moment, unless I have missed something.

Having said that if its true another lacklustre transfer window beckons. Whatever Evans is up to with ITFC its killing us!

Glory hunter?? I supported town since about 1976 through good and bad times?? Yet in all these years even under Keane I've never been so ashamed of the football we playing being run into the ground with a pig headed manager in charge. So I'm sorry but I resent the glory hunter comment? Just remind how long you followed the Town please?

Says it all! I literally give up with this shambles of a football club!! Don't you understand how it works Evans? Build a team!! Yes a TEAM! we know promotion doesn't happen overnight but you literally are giving us no hope of reaching the premiership! Loans from one season to the next will get us no where! With you at the top and our clueless one dimensional manager we are going no where fast!

Squad is good enough (emphasis on 'squad' not first eleven)
Manager isn't
Replace manager with someone who can utilise good enough squad
Happy fans
Happy owner
Sorted
Thank you.

Surely we can find a better management replacement than a young non scoring striker from a second rate club to replace mick...

Marcus Evans your silence is deafening!
Sadly nowadays football isn't a means of escape from every day reality, WHY because the people that dictate your everyday life's are now running our cherished football clubs!
Said it before, and will say it again, Evans take your pot of gold and LEAVE Ipswich Town alone! Debts, the bloody lot, just go! Lower division football doesn't scare me no more, whatever the outcome and situation our club can and will rise again,IF the fans want it too!
PS, Evans, don't forget to take McCarthy with you !

Have heard of him that's about it, is he any good!!
Can't believe we're not going for someone like Billy Sharp he's banging the goals in for sheff Utd.
Is he 31 now? He can score goals at championship level as well.
Offer 500k we should get him.
Oh I'll wake up now haha!

So Evans buys the club for £12 million but keeps the club debt at £32 million. When we sell a player the money goes to the Marcus Evans group and out of the club but when we get a player, the club pays!! Seems to me Evans is ripping the club off. Any surplus cash the club has also goes to ME group. Have I got this right?

As a permanant signing i guess i'd take it but i don't want him. Rather we went back for Sam Winnall again.
