Preston Boss Confirms Town Interest in Hugill
Thursday, 12th Jan 2017 17:18

Preston boss Simon Grayson has confirmed Town have shown interest in striker Jordan Hugill. Yesterday, the Blues were reported to have had a £1.5 million offer for the 24-year-old turned down, however, Grayson says he’s not aware whether there has been “an official approach” from Town.

“We’ve had enquiries for Jordan," Grayson told BBC Lancashire Sport. "I’m not quite sure whether there’s been an official approach for him from Ipswich but I know they’ve asked the question and obviously that got refuted very quickly.

“We don’t want to lose any of our players. We’ve had enquiries for other players as well, it just tells you that the team are doing well and individuals are doing well.”

He added: “I can’t say 100 per cent [whether there’s been an official offer] because I haven’t really spoken to [club advisor] Peter [Ridsdale] since it came out. Wherever it’s been leaked from it hasn’t been leaked from us, I can presume where it’s going to have come from.

“But we don’t want to do anything because Jordan is a good player for us, he has a bright future, we paid a small fee for him and it just shows how well he’s been doing and what people think of him.”

Grayson says Hugill is happy at Deepdale and while all players have a price insists his club isn’t actively looking to sell.

“Every club in the country, in Europe are vulnerable while the window’s still open, that’s always going to be the case for all players, and every player has a price,” he added.

“But we’re very much in the mould that we don’t have to sell players unless we think it’s the right thing to do.”

If Hugill is sold his former club Port Vale have confirmed that they will be entitled to a percentage of the profit the Lilywhites make on the £25,000 youth compensation they paid the Valiants for the Middlesbrough-born frontman in June 2014.

Rumours linking the Blues with a move for Hugill have been circulating on the TWTD Forum for the last week.

Meanwhile, Rotherham boss Paul Warne has dismissed yesterday's report which claimed the Millers have received multiple bids for striker Danny Ward.

Warne says the one bid he confirmed earlier this month from a club who weren’t Town remains the only offer the South Yorkshiremen have received.

Despite the enquiry regarding Hugill, we understand Town remain very interested in Ward.

Not the Peter Ridsdale who got Leeds in a pickle a few years back?

Sounds like Town are at least trying to get one or two in,which is hopeful.

Why go for him when he is from a competing Championship team, they will be more reluctant to sell to a competitor, if at all.

@Iaintaylorx

The rumour up here in Grimsby today is that Barnsley are looking at Bogle as a replacement for Sam Winnall. Still not worth the fee Grimsby want IMO.

What I can't understand, is surely knowing they completely failed to replace Murphy - put themselves in an extremely poor position - that the leg work to sign a striker urgently from 1 Jan had taken place? Surely that's what a competent owner and club would have done. It now seems we are making approaches mid January. Unless of course it's all for show ... Look at us, we are really trying, shame the player isn't available.

Why dont we just pay the money rather than just taking part in the bidding and making offers that are obviously going to be rejected.

martleshamitfc ........... even he wouldn't be interested - he'd either be expected to play in goal, or somewhere in defence.

Why can't we do what other clubs do?? Just release who we have signed instead of if buts or maybes?? Then only last day of Jan loan a few players!!!

It doesn't actually say we have officially bid for anyone . What happened to the players we were trying to sign in August has MM realised how average they were ?
Obviously no hurry as results going so well or has Evans not got confidence in MM so will see out next two games and then get new manager ?

Looks like we are trying to buy players & made some bids but not being successful yet...

Lets hope we get a striker soon even if it's Danny Ward or Jordan Hugill we need someone

As long as we have the likes of Skuse and Douglas in the middle and an unbalanced back 4 we are going nowhere no matter who we sign, imo a striker is not the no 1 problem.

Hmmm 37 years old former FAN FAVORITE.... Pablo 'The One & Only' Counago! .... has had a far better goals per game average in even the last handful of his 'senior' years than the this here hyped and fitting-right-in ever so nicely tattooed proper looking bloke .... albeit at a somewhat more dubious level though! :-)
Still we can probaby get the Spaniard out of Finland for ehhhh the equivalent of say 4 six-packs of lager + a bag of Doritos!!! ..... So let's save some of Marcus's "hard earned" and presumably "scarce" money for a much rainy'er day / greater looking deal, shall we??? :LOL LOL LOL LOL

I think jas0999 might be correct: were making it look like we've tried, but reallly we won't get anyone in. I reckon the best we can hope for is a decent loan signing, but that's hardly part of this magic five point plan is it..?!

Good shout planetblue2011. Billy Sharp. Unlike all these others rumoured , always scored goals wherever he's been. Still can't understand how the likes of reading and Sheffield Wednesday are able to spend £3m + for players. Clubs surely of similiar size . If we really are that poorly off someone along th line must be ultimately responsible for the catastrophic decline!!! Who is it ? For gods sake , we managed to buy Marcus Stewart from our rivals then for around £2-3m nearly 17 years ago.

Frank Nouble released by Gillingham yesterday. What's the betting on him making a return to Ipswich?
