Five Changes for Town at Lincoln
Tuesday, 17th Jan 2017 19:19

Paul Digby, Leon Best, Dean Gerken, Jonathan Douglas and Grant Ward all come into the Town team facing Lincoln City in this evening’s FA Cup third round replay at Sincil Bank (BBC One, 8pm, kick-off 8.05pm).

Digby makes his second start of the season - the other was in the EFL Cup - in what looks to be a continuation of the three-man backline on the right with skipper Luke Chambers in the middle and Christophe Berra on the left with Adam Webster missing out, presumably due to injury.

Josh Emmanuel and Jonas Knudsen will again be the wing-backs, while manager Mick McCarthy had indicated that Gerken would again start in goal with Bartosz Bialkowski the sub keeper.

Ward and Douglas look set to start in central midfield with Andre Dozzell and Kevin Bru dropping to the bench. Best replaces Freddie Sears, who is also among the subs, up front with Tom Lawrence.

Also on the bench are youngsters Adam McDonnell, a midfielder, striker Ben Morris and left-back Pat Webber.

Lincoln name the same XI which started the 2-2 draw at Portman Road having made six changes for Saturday’s 3-1 FA Trophy victory at Gateshead.

Lincoln: Farman, Wood, Haberham, Waterfall (c), Power, Rhead, Hawkridge, Raggett, Arnold, Woodyard, Robinson. Subs: Muldoon, Marriott, Long, Miles, McCombe, Weatherell, Walker.

Town: Gerken, Digby, Chambers (c), Berra, Emmanuel, Ward, Skuse, Douglas, Knudsen, Lawrence, Best. Subs: Bialkowski, Bru, Sears, Dozzell, McDonnell, Morris, Webber.

Should be more than good enough to beat a non league side BUT why does MM STILL insist on Skuse/Douglas? Don't understand it personally.

I hope I am wrong, but I am starting to fear the worst
All form players apart from Lawrence are dropped and the return of Skuglas.
Out of form Douglas, Chambers, Berra, and Knudsen all start.
I think we should have played the same side as we played on Saturday. Football is all about momentum

Not saying it's right but 1 big thing we lacked in the 1st game was an experienced head to take control / calm the team down. We played like a team panicking, almost intimidated and players like Dozzell were consistently out muscled. Suspect Dougie only playing for that reason. A more experienced head in the middle. Again not saying I necessarily agree but is why.

Worried.

Doesn't have a Scooby. Yeah, '...I'll play a strong team'. Right.
I'll believe you. Some wouldn't.
At least BBC will get their wish.
And, as has been said, everyone will see the fantastic duo of Skuse and Douglas.

It's a 14 man game - Douglas, Ward, Best to play 60ish minutes, then Dozzell, Sears, Bru to come on when Lincoln tired.

Let's go for pens, defend for 120 minutes if not 90 and out

MM is so desperate to get a win playing Skuse and Douglas so he can do his usual , see I was right !!
Looks a very defensive team to play against a non league team , typical MM

Playing a Lincoln team which were very physical in the drawn game, in a small ground in front of their own fans is not the place to risk a kid like Dozzell from the start, but he could play a part if the game opens up at some stage.

Douglas hasn't made approx 500 league appearances in midfield without knowing his job and being able to handle this and being up for a battle. Digby better suited to RCB in a 3, but a very big occasion for him. Let's hope he rises to it, also Best's opportunity to show he might be worth a contract extension.

oh dear. Well at least we will be able to turn the tv over if it gets a bit embarrassing. There are a couple of episodes of Mr Bean on ITV4 at 8. A simple man, who's humour is derived by his interactions with other people, and his unusual solutions to situations. Or just turn the tv over and watch Mr Bean instead.

Glad McCarthy's proved leopards don't change their spots. If only Hyam was fit we'd have a balanced midfield.
