McCarthy: Lawrence is Going Nowhere
Saturday, 28th Jan 2017 18:09

Town boss Mick McCarthy has reiterated that there is no chance of loanee Tom Lawrence leaving the Blues during the January transfer window, despite being aware of interest from Cardiff, QPR and Leeds United in the Leicester man, while several other sides including Sunderland, Newcastle and Derby have also been linked.

“I spoke to Leicester, I spoke to [Foxes director of football] Jon Rudkin the other day and as far as they’re concern he’s with us,” McCarthy said.

“We’ve a commitment to them to the end of the season and they’ve a commitment to us.

“And the only way that can be broken if we say ‘We don’t want Tom Lawrence’. Well that’s going to happen, isn’t it?

“There are clubs interested. I think Cardiff are interested, I was told that QPR are interested and I’ve also been told that Leeds were interested and I also spoke to Leeds and told them that he’s with us to the end of the season so they’re kind of pissing in the wind. It’s not going to happen.

“And to be fair to Tom, he’ll have his choice of clubs, I think he’ll have a really good choice at the end of the season and I don’t see any reason why a Premier League club wouldn’t come and take him, he’s at a Premier League club at the moment.

“Leicester haven’t received any bids. He’s with us. No way, any how will I be sanctioning Tom Lawrence going anywhere else. That categorical enough?”

Lawrence scored the eighth goal of his loan spell as Town drew 1-1 at Preston this afternoon.

... but what if Evans was offered cash by a club desperate to sign him? That would be interesting!

On a more serious note, this is great news. Without Lawrence we would be in serious trouble rather than a safe mid table side.

Let's hope for more signings before the window closes. An experienced replacement for Murphy on a permanent deal still needed.

Make a statement Marcus. Get the fans behind you. Sign him. If other players have a problem with his wages tell them to perform to his standards and knock on my door.

Why would a club offer us cash when his club is Leicester. He is here on loan. If cash changes hands it would be Leicester who benefit!!

Good thing too because he is the only one brining the team forward and making anything happen. We will never sign him. Club is not ambitious enough to commit more wages than what the "structure" states. He will go to a team far bigger than us unfortunately.

Mick out

Irishtim - would be a great dream to come true, but sadly won't realistically happen, so at least you won't get loads of players knocking on your door...

If a club came in with decent money and Lawrence is interested, I don't see how we can be the ones that stand in his way? We all know there is no loyalty in football even if we would like to think differently.

Irishtim, he'll be able to get £40k a week wages now. Even if we went mad and offered £15k a week he's 100% not coming. Enjoy him while he lasts as he wont be here next season. Not the clubs fault this one,

Floridaboy - my comment was made in jest. I did say 'in seriousness'!! But of course, a club could offer us an incentive to terminate our deal with him. It wouldn't be unusual in business.

We'd all love to sign Lawrence, of course we would, but there's no way Evans will pay the kind of wage he could command, this being we could match his week by week increasing value!! We need to enjoy him whilst we have him, much like we did Ryan Fraser last season.

It's 1,000,000 /1 Against him being here next year let's hope MM can unearth another Lawrence for next season and be greatful to Tom for what he's done for us this season I'm sure he's greatful to ITFC for putting him in the shop window.

some people don't get it do they. It wouldn't matter how much Evans offered for Lawrence. We won't be getting him. He will be playing premier league football next season. to be frank. He deserves it!

Brilliant Pablo. Blow the wage structure, pay money what we cant afford, but hell it would keep you happy!! I would LOVE it if we could keep him but have to be realistic. He would cost approx 25-30k per week minimum, that's 1/8 of our budget! (Which is already a lot more than our turnover) Makes real economic sense doesn't it??!!

Let's make the most of him being with us for rest of the season

Nobody is going anywhere under MM, certainly never going to get promoted.

And as has been already said, without Tom's goals we would be well and truly in a relegation fight!
