Town Close to Confirming Garner Signing Sunday, 11th Jun 2017 16:33
TWTD understands Town are close to confirming the signing of Rangers striker Joe Garner.
Reports that the Blues were moving for the 29-year-old in a £500,000 deal first surfaced in Scotland last month and we understand the frontman is due at Portman Road on Monday to complete the formalities of his move, signing a three-year deal.
Garner moved to Ibrox from Preston for £1.4 million last summer, when Town were also interested, signing a three-year contract.
The former England U16, U17 and U19 international scored 10 goals in 22 starts and 12 sub appearances during 2016/17.
While Garner was reportedly not out of Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha’s plans, the Portuguese manager is said to be looking to wheel and deal as he rebuilds his squad during the close season.
Garner started his career with his hometown club Blackburn Rovers but was unable to break into the first team prior to moving on to Carlisle, initially on loan, then Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield (loan), Scunthorpe (loan), Watford and Carlisle for a further loan spell before joining Preston in 2013.
While with the Lilywhites the 5ft 10in tall frontman scored a 20-minute second-half hat-trick as the Lancastrians beat the Blues 3-2 in an FA Cup third round replay at Deepdale in January 2014.
The following season Garner won the League One Player of the Year award as he helped Preston into the Championship via the play-offs.

On the face of it, he's probably about what we should be expecting Mick to sign. It's an interesting one but no denying not going to unite us all for several reasons. I've outlined my thoughts in longform here https://www.twtd.co.uk/forum/407671/[blog]-you-little...-garner/#0
Not a bad player and just because he is 5"10, don't judge that on him not being a 'target man' because he is suprisingly strong and good in the air. Hopefully this is the first of many!
I think he'll do alright but we know he needs to be first of many. Endorse all those on here who are saying get behind the fella. All the players deserve that..
Re your comment "Matt Portman" a finisher like Pits would get a shed load of goals(as this guy could) with service to his feet in the box our strikers have no chance of that with the premiership class ineffective Skuse in our midfield.
This is the type of player we're in the market for now. No point moaning about it. Just have to hope it works out. Yes he did knock us out of the FA Cup, there are a lot of those players around.
Not impressed with this and just endorses the standard we are shopping for. Have we got crap scouts, crap manager or crap owner that sanctions uninspiring signings like this. Looks like his career is going backwards and with MM's record of improving players when they get here your not going to recoup lost season ticket sales. What are our scouts doing just looking at old video's of players that have scored against us in the last decade!
A permanent signing. He's currently under 30. A striker. Did it I'll take it. If we can get Huws signed and 2 or 3 more players for the first 11 I'll start to think about cracking a smile.
How fabulous , Has scored 23 goals in 140 Championship Games , one goal every 6 games . Does ITFC seriously expect to challenge for top 6 with this type of signing ?
Is this the same Garner that scores that blinding goal in the Sky Bet ad (the one where the crowd is non-existent and then full)? Don't know enough about him to have an opinion on him but the majority weren't happy when Murphy kept coming back. That said, we will be his 10th club which doesn't tend to bode well. Time will tell.
