Ex-Blues Coke and Hunt Training With Wigan
Thursday, 6th Jul 2017 17:23

Released Town midfielder Giles Coke is training with League One Wigan Athletic, along with another former Blue, Noel Hunt.

Coke, 31, left Portman Road after an injury-hit two years at the end of last season having made only four starts - just one of those in the Championship - and 10 sub appearances without scoring.

Hunt, 34, is also a free agent having recently been released by Portsmouth after a year at Fratton Park. The Irishman left Portman Road following the 2014/15 campaign having spent most of that season with the Blues, scoring three goals in three starts and nine sub appearances.

No offence to either but it makes me feel really relieved that we didn't get relegated to league 1 or these would have been the type of players we would have been looking at signing/retaining.

Thank you Noel hunt for that ecstasy at charlton.. gave his all and the playoff campaign was all about these types of players.. the hunts.. Anderson.. chambers.. chaplow... players who really cared and gave there all for the club! Like others I am optimistic about the season ahead but team spirit goes a long way! Let's hope his bunch gel and give us a season we can all be proud of! COYB!!

Hunt would be a reasonable signing for Wigan.

If I was a Wigan fan, I'd be happy with Hunt. But I would openly protest about Coke. So far from being a League 1 player.

Noel was a brilliant character to bring in. Same as Varney that whatever he lacked in quality, he made up in effort. Never forget the Charlton goal and great scenes when he scored twice at Millwall too. As for Giles Coke....

Will both be decent for Wigan Athletic!

As so many others have already said, Coke is clearly NOT a L1 player. He'd do ok at AFC Sudbury, a team he was linked with a few days ago. But even then the AFC midfield destroyed him in that pre-season friendly last year (he was pretty much at fault for 4 out of their 5 goals). Portsmouth midfield also owned him. Who an earth is the Wigan Chief Scout?
