All Four Strikers Start for Blues at Millwall
Tuesday, 15th Aug 2017 19:11

Town boss Mick McCarthy has named the expected side for this evening’s game back at his old club Millwall with all four of his strikers starting.

David McGoldrick looks set to partner Joe Garner up front with Martyn Waghorn likely to be on the right and Freddie Sears on the left.

Flynn Downes travelled having suffered knocks at Barnsley on Saturday but isn’t in the 18 with Grant Ward partnering Cole Skuse in the centre of a four-man midfield.

At the back, Jordan Spence again seems likely to partner skipper Luke Chambers at centre-half with Dominic Iorfa at right-back and Jonas Knudsen on the left. Bartosz Bialkowski is in goal.

On-loan midfielder Bersant Celina misses out as he is again unwell, while Michael Crowe is the sub keeper with Dean Gerken not making the trip for personal reasons.

With 10 first-team players currently unavailable - Celina, Gerken, Downes, Tommy Smith, Adam Webster, Teddy Bishop, Tom Adeyemi, Luke Hyam, Andre Dozzell and Emyr Huws - Town name a very inexperienced bench with Myles Kenlock having made the largest number senior appearances for the Blues.

Millwall: Archer, McLaughlin, Hutchinson, Webster, Meredith, Wallace, Saville, Williams, O’Brien, Morison (c), Gregory. Subs: King, Craig, Thompson, Onyedinma, Ferguson, Elliott, Cooper.

Town: Bialkowski, Iorfa, Spence, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Skuse, Ward, Waghorn, Sears, McGoldrick, Garner. Subs: Crowe, Rowe, Nydam, Kenlock, Morris, McDonnell. Referee: James Linington (Newport, Isle of Wight).

Well done Mick for going for it! Average age of our bench is about 18?! 90% of football is Confidence, let's stick it to them! COYB

Crikey! a very adventurous looking team and certainly attack minded so hats off to Mick for that...rather Kenlock at LB than Knudsen but overall starting 11 looks okay considering the injuries/illness.

On another note, Celina sick again!?!...what is going on down at PR these days, we'll have to install hand sanitizers before long.

What has Mick been smoking, because I want some!? To me, this season is showing a completely different side to Mick and if he continues to play nice football and pick the best team available, he'll get my full support - considering last season I was in the 'Mick out brigade'! This is positive and I am liking it!!!

Basically the reverse of the Barnsley game then - four strikers on the pitch first half then probably relying on youngsters in the second. Fingers crossed we see a much better start tonight!

Great line up, fantastic to see, we should be going to the clubs likely to be bottom end of the league, at the end of the season, and lining up for the win and not to try and not loose wish I could get there

To be fair, Mick had very few options. I may be wrong, but suspect were unlikely to start with such an attacking line up on a regular basis. Great to see though.

I don't think Mick had much choice with all the injuries but I like the look of the team.COYB 3 points would be nice.🤔

Impressive starting 11, but if it doesn't work, we've got nothing really to change to from the bench, just Rowe potentially.

The only problem I forsee is unlike Saturday McCarthy has no impact available from the bench but fair play he seems to be going after Millwall so here's hoping it works and Freddie gets off the mark.

You wily old Dino you!!! Feck me, that's one extreme to the other. On a more serious note, 4 strikers and a dare I say it - a weak defence, there should be goals if nothing else. Let's hope we score more!! As we're away and a tad depleted I'd take the draw.
