Cobbold Stand Season Ticket Holders to Move to Allow Increased Leeds Allocation
Friday, 24th Nov 2017 17:22

Town have written to season ticket holders in the Cobbold Stand informing them that they will be required to move from their seats for the game against Leeds United on Saturday 13th January in order to increase the away side’s allocation.

The Whites are set to be given all the blocks across the upper tier of the stand, an allocation of more than 3,000 seats, with the exception of A Block, which will remain empty for safety and security reasons, and the premium D Block which will be unaffected by the move.

In the summer the club wrote to the season ticket holders involved outlining that this might be the case for some games during the campaign ahead. The Leeds match is the first where the opposition have been given so many tickets and their support will be the largest following at Portman Road during 2017/18.

“There were several occasions last season when we didn’t have the capacity to cater for the travelling support and to prevent away fans purchasing tickets in the home end, we had to introduce an all-ticket stance,” the club wrote in July.

“The decision to go all-ticket was done on safety advice but it meant that on some occasions we were turning away local people who ‘just wanted to go to a game’ on matchday even though the stadium was far from full.

“To try and avoid that situation happening in 2017/18 and again on safety advice, we will look at increasing the away seating for certain games next season, reducing the need to make matches all-ticket for all.

“We will write to you nearer the time if that is the case. We realise this might prove to be inconvenient to you so we are asking you whether you would like to consider moving your seat to another part of the Cobbold Stand or indeed anywhere else within the stadium ahead of the new season.”

Fortunately we are in the Sir Alf Ramsey stand;but I can understand that the club wish to maximise the attendances,as it seems daft to have an all ticket match when the stadium is only half full.

Just give the Cobbold Stand members a move to the most prestigious, unoccupied places in the ground, all would be winners?

I'd rather fill PR with ITFC supporters!

Unbelievably! Other teams supporters are treated better than our own.

Hope we charge them £50 a ticket, seen Leeds didn't take us up on our ticket offer. Think it was £37 at Elland road. Ridiculous price for a championship game.

Slightly off issue. But it's brought up again my feeling of why don't they move the away supporters to the other end of the cobbold permanently ?

We need anything and everything possible to increase atmosphere.

so surround the Ipswich supporters in the premium seats with dirty Leeds supporters...that will be fun for them! Glad the board have thought about how to make our highest paying fans feel comfy for 90 minutes!

Another reason we didn't renew our season tickets. Many clubs allocate away supporters behind the goal (old Churchmans lower for instance). Home supporters upstairs could enter and exit via the practice pitch and let the away supporters exit onto the bus park. Nineteenseventyeight is right. How intimidating is that going to be. Common sense isn't so common!!

D Block fans were asked a few years ago whether they would want to stay where they are or move in the event of promotion, which would also see away fans moved to the area around them - in the Premier League the regular away allocation would be increased to 3,000 - and the overwhelming opinion was that they wanted to stay where they are.

Town Already Planning for Great Leap Forward 3rd Sep 2011 09:40
Chief executive Simon Clegg says the Blues are already making plans for the off-field work which would be required if the club is promoted to the Premier League via an initiative named Project Leap. Town have been away from the top flight for almost a decade now and aspects of Portman Road need modernising, while some Premier League regulations have changed during that time. 42
