U18s Host Blackpool in FA Youth Cup
Tuesday, 30th Jan 2018 14:02

Town’s U18s are in FA Youth Cup fifth round action against Blackpool at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

The side led by Alan Lee and Geraint Williams beat Dagenham and Redbridge 2-1 in the fourth round at Portman Road a fortnight ago, Jack Lankester netting both goals, the first from the penalty spot.

They had previously caused a memorable shock in their third round tie when they defeated Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park, Ross Marshall and Idris El Mizouni scoring the goals.

Blackpool beat Southampton on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road in the fourth round, having won 3-0 at Bradford in the first round, 2-0 at Doncaster in round two and 1-0 at West Ham in the third round.

The winners of tonight’s match - which will go to extra-time and penalties if level after 90 minutes - will play Blackburn Rovers or Nottingham Forest away in the sixth round.

The draw for the semi-finals has also already been made and the Blues will meet Colchester, Reading, Middlesbrough or Arsenal away if they make it that far.

Town have won the FA Youth Cup on three occasions, in 1973, 1975 and most recently in 2005.

Admission to the East of England Co-op Stand only is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

Yes, FA youth cup regs stipulate a minimum adult entrance of £3, even for season tickets. Club do not have a choice.

WELL HOW DISAPPOINTING.

Had lions share of the ball;but what did we do wih it?Not a lot.Very little forward pass and movement, far too static with sideways and backward passes so that Blackpool sat back and comfortably soaked up what little pressure they had to defend.Pedestrian.

Scored from two of their rare attacks, whilst we hardly had a decent shot to test the Blackpool keeper.

Glad I didn't go,but watched from the comfort of my home.
