Chambers: Still in There Fighting But We Need Fans' Backing
Tuesday, 13th Feb 2018 15:02

Skipper Luke Chambers believes that Town are still in there fighting for a play-off place and says he and his team-mates need the backing of the Blues’ support if they are to finish in the top six as they did in the 2014/15 campaign.

Town are currently 12th in the Championship, eight points off the play-offs with 15 matches left to play.

“We are still in there fighting for a top-six place but we need to put a run together,” Chambers told the club site.

“You could ask what right do we have to be challenging for the play-offs though. When you look at the clubs in the Championship and see what some are getting from the parachute payments, what it is - £40 million this year - and look at the millions that some clubs are throwing at it, it’s nowhere near a level playing field.

“We’re still in there though. We know it’s going to be a big ask but we will be giving it a right good go.

“We need the supporters to stay with us though. No one wants a situation when one bad pass or a missed opportunity changes the mentality of people from positive to negative. I think a lot of that goes on in the game now everywhere.

“When we made the play-offs three years ago, the fans pulled us through games on occasions. When we needed a lift from the stands, we got it. You need that sometimes but we also know it’s down to what we do on the pitch to get the fans going as well.”

that's great coming from a player with the footballing finesse of a Centurian tank following the direst performance of all time, As bluehook said he must have drawn this weeks short straw, its a wonder he didn't come out with the other classic oft repeated phrase , ''we can build on the last match !. Spare us Chambo ,theres a proper bloke .

Play-offs? No chance you need to string about 7 wins in a row to even get near them, our team can't even string two against the two bottoms teams. Burton dont have a pot to P1$$ in but they taught us a footy lesson on Saturday.

McCarthy or Chambo couldn't get the lads up for it, even after your HT hairdryer treatment. No plan B, no attacking full-backs..two holding midfielders against Burton, are you for Real? Webster getting splitters on his Ar$e when the game was crying for a ball playing CB to bring it out from defence, instead we got to very similar centre backs that launch aimless long balls up to a 5ft 9 front man..Its no secret we have stop scoring since MacG was taken out of the num 10 position...whatever anyone things about him on here, its true.

The only thing Chambo & McCarthy can do is get a win on Sunday to Salvage some much needed pride, but I doubt very much that will happen. We will come away once again getting embarrassed and have those lot up the road gloating once again.

Shambles.

Do the press or journalists question the players, manager or MD when they spout this utter rubbish? Out fought by the divisions whipping boys at home. It's dreadful.

Cant expect him to say anything else;but its not what is said, but whats done on the grass that counts.

Mick MCarthy prides himself on saying it as it is;but recently he comes over,to me anyway, with a glass half empty attitude. He bangs on now about how little money the club has compared to most now(18th in spending terms),saying that he can only bring in frees or loans during the recent window.I wonder whether this inferiority complex is affecting the players;judging by Saturdays performance.

Just a thought;but I cannot understand why Evans is not changing the Manager now, especially with the Season Ticket renewals in the offing. Is he bothered anymore,as seems less interested than ever in the Club, and that takes some doing.

The way things are going he could go down as one of the owners who have ruined a football club.I think Blackpool ,Portsmouth, Luton and Coventry were in that category ;but are fighting back from the depths of the Football/National League

The best way the fans can support the club is to campaign for MM's departure.

I was wondering whether Phil or Gav or whoever get to interview the players ever show them the comments on this site so they are aware of the feelings of supporters. I don't suppose they read it but they should be made aware and given the chance to answer the critics.

What a load of old tosh! not all about the money two clubs Hull and Sunderland received parachute payments and look at them now! Preston, Sheff Utd and Brentford have small budgets and all above us in the table. Huddersfield were promoted and they havn,t spent millions. Why do we need this from our captain is he trying to wind us up now like MM. perhaps he is touting to be next manager recruit rom within and a that!!

Donkey. You can follow Dino out if the door. Not good enough and shouting a lot and being a proper bloke won't cut it when we actually get a football manager !!!!!!

Basically, Luke Chambers, you and your useless manager, and equally useless colleagues, can f*ck off : and the sooner, the better.

One thing that puzzles me. The number of posts that mention we can't spend money like other clubs, and ok, £20m on one player is a bit ott. The post above by ipswichben states that we cannot compete with the likes of Cardiff paying £6m for a player. My question is why? Even allowing for the fact that ME has "swallowed" the clubs debts and puts in extra every season, by my calculations £6m is approximately 2% of ME's total Assets. That's pretty small beer, on top of the above. After all, if you're just doing the necessary to keep the club afloat and treading water and have no desire to invest any further, than what on earth is the point of owning a football club (at least the majority of it anyway) apart from massaging the ego! As for FFP, it's a dead duck and has been from the start. If you think i've got the finances all wrong, please let me know! I welcome a sensible, non abusive discussion.

Gcon .... Ipswich need supporters like us because those who just accept everything whilst constantly making excuses are ruining the club and they cannot even see it .

Do you honestly think lifetime supporters want to stay away from games ?
Do you think they would rather just have a whinge when we lose, than actually go to watch games and enjoy it win lose or draw ?
I would say to you at our lowest point under Jewell at the bottom of the league the fans still paid their money and attended , so all the crap about its only about results is wrong , its about us playing football the Ipswich way and producing youngsters to go on further in their careers

I also don't agree with the constant moaning abut money , MM wasn't forced to sell any of his squad and has spent £2.5million on players . The clubs that he keeps talking about having parachute payments and spending millions have also sold players for millions so are not actually spending any more than us .

It's all about motivation & attacking the opposition. This includes attacking full backs & midfielders who carry the ball into the box. Some of our youth players are capable ofor doing this.Surely the team is set up wrong
