Town Confirm Price Cut as Evans Admits Last Year's Increase a Mistake
Monday, 26th Mar 2018 08:55

Town have confirmed that they have cut season ticket prices for the 2018/19 campaign by 10 per cent throughout Portman Road with owner Marcus Evans admitting a mistake was made when they were increased by 1.5 per cent ahead of this season. News of the reduction emerged last night when the prices were inadvertently posted on ITFC Direct.

As previously reported, a lower tier season ticket will drop from £423 this season to £381, a saving of £42, while a seat in the premium D Block in the Cobbold Stand will come down by almost £100 with similar reductions elsewhere in the stadium ahead of the early bird deadline of Monday 30th April. After that date prices will be the same as this year post-deadline.

Town are continuing with the under-23s and under-16s tickets introduced last season as well as the under-12s loyalty scheme also brought in a year ago.

Fans will again also be able to pay for their tickets via an interest free direct debit scheme.

“I made a mistake last year in increasing prices on the back of a tough season,” Town owner Marcus Evans admitted to the club site.

“This year we have performed better on the pitch in what is an increasingly challenging division but I feel it’s the right thing to do by dropping season ticket prices substantially.

“I hope this encourages current season ticket holders to renew again for next year and acts as an incentive for those who perhaps have not been regulars at Portman Road this year.

“Results on the pitch are the most important aspect of any football club and from talking to the manager and the players, I know supporters have a part to play in that.

"If we are together and united behind the team, it gives the club the best platform to move forward.”

Season ticket packs will start to be sent out from April 3rd when fans can purchase their seats. Current season ticket holders paying by direct debit will automatically renew unless they inform the club otherwise.

Further details on season tickets can be found on the club site here.

News of the price cut has been broadly welcomed by fans, however, many won't make a decision on whether to renew their seats until an announcement has been made on the future of Blues manager Mick McCarthy which seems unlikely to come immediately but is likely to come prior to the early bird deadline.

The words of a man so COMPLETELY out of touch with the club and it's supporters.

People are staying/turning away because of the string of poor managerial decisions you are making mate.

Do not make another poor one in the coming weeks...you need to get this next one spot on.

“This year we have performed better on the pitch in what is an increasingly challenging division but I feel it's the right thing to do by dropping season ticket prices substantially." - says it all about the ambition of the board that currently we're 12th and last season finished 16th, saying that at least they have apologised and acknowledged their wrong doings of last season with the ticket price increasing. Still not sure if McCarthy is going or staying but with the reduction the swingometer heads back towards him staying.

Very positive news... on the face of it.

Scratch a little bit deeper though and this is VERY WORRYING INDEED as the tone very much suggests that there will be no change in management at all. I agree with you Lightningboy, he couldn't really be any further out of touch with the supporters.

Crikey we are run by an idiot---people will not commit money until they know what they are buying-ie next years manager.

I presume, hope and pray there will be an announcement on this before April 30th or is that too much to ask?

Why no announcement on McCarthy? The owner and McCarthy himself must know what they want by now.
Once again shocking management of the club has been highlighted.
The paying supporters need to be informed of the manager situation now, from what I can gather there are a large number (including me) that will not be renewing if McCarthy stays so Evans must realise how important it is for a statement now!

Calm down and relax, the club have officially announced they will announce MM's future before April 30th on their twitter feed.

"Q. What happens if I do not purchase before the early bird deadline but do purchase after?
A. Prices then revert to the same as the post-early prices for the current season (2017-18). " Surely that then means Season Tickets are NOT reducing by 10% in that case. What they should have done is reduce the actual Season Ticket price before the Early Bird reductions are added. Obviously trying to force supporters hands before the management announcement is made. Yet again the club mucks things up...don't have any trust in the running of this club any more.

Is it considered that the cut in season ticket prices will be matched by appointing a manager on less remuneration than MM?

I think this is great news and a welcome piece of news however for me this has no reason behind whether I renew or not this will be on what happens with the manager AND owner as i'm sure it is for a a lot of supporters. I cannot pay ANY more hard earned money to watch the drivel on show from the Manager. If a new manager comes in and I get a vibe that we are moving forwards with some kind of plan I will. I know ill miss going to games but to be honest i missed 8 games last season because i didnt want to watch the dire football on display and about the same amount this season also.
This does indicate for me that maybe the manager is being kept on as there is no announcement on this I feel there is always a ying and yang with the club they literally do not listen to the vast majority of fans, season on season. I think we are all more aware than to believe anything this club and its reps say until things happen. I dont fall for the "Were interested in this player and that player" anymore either.

This is NOT a real 10% reduction as all season ticket purchases (at least early bird last year) were followed by a voucher (after the c*** up all round) for £10 value. If you take that into account it is less than 10%.

10%? i doubt that will not be anywhere near enough to woo the fans back into the ground! when i first started my long journey of following Town a home gate of 2/24k was quite normal, so find that extra TEN THOUSAND behinds on seats is going to take years to regain!
ITFC managaement still have not a clue as to how to run a footbal club, Evans statement that its still his intention to get ITFC to the promised land is laughable, sell up man and concentrate on being the crook you obviously are,
Words fail me on this bunch of clowns! oh and buy Milne a suit for christ sake, never have i seen such a disgracefully dressed man as the spokesman of our club!!

Welcome news by the club, however, none of our family will be renewing if MM stays due to the complete lack of entertainment on offer & abysmal treatment of fans. Simply put, not a protest - but no one wants to go ‘cos its sh*te.

That's 8 season ticket holders, including 6 who have travelled all over the country to support the team and 3 who have been going since the 60/70's. Indeed none of us have been to any of the games since being told to F off at scum.

Even when we reached the play-offs under MM the football was drab. To his credit though, he can spot and bring in decent players & grind it out when needed but he is too stubborn and set in his ways. He can not adapt and has been tactically outwitted by far too many opponents and this has led to losing to teams we could have & should have beaten. Dour football, no cup runs and unforgivably no victories over Nodge, for years now he has been completely out of touch with what the majority of the fan base wants (as has ME). C'mon give us something to bloody well cheer about so we can for once hold our heads high and be proud rather than embarrassed to support our beloved ITFC.

Also, MM is frustratingly revered for being honest and down to earth? Insecure, petulant & downright rude more like. I've lost count the number of times he harps on about what a great job he's done (yes for 12 months but pretty much lame after that) and how he doesn't mind getting stick (then spits out his dummy when it deservedly comes his way).

His Neanderthal brand of football has no place at our club and change needs to take place now (albeit 3 years too late) before the club is destroyed. With inaction and weak leadership, each week that passes is fuelling the exodus of more and more long standing fans and it will be increasingly more difficult to recover this as people find something better to do with their precious free time. I'm now realising that there are plenty of enjoyable things to do with my spare time rather than going to football on a Saturday.

MM's position is untenable and surely it would be better to bring in new personnel now so that they can assess what we have have now rather than wait.

If MM stays then I fear this club will be heading towards the same fate as the Neanderthals'.

Sorry Mr Evans you are just a big a tw at as your manager, this basically says Mick is staying but let's see everybody buy tickets then tell them? RIP Ipswich with Evans in charge!!

Five games without a home goal and Evans thinks we have been better! Seems to be justifying MM staying to me but I'm in the minority and I hope the majority are right.

I applaud the decision to cut prices, yet the club had little choice. Folk are unlikely to spend more or indeed the same to watch boring negative football. In fact, 10% decrease is nowhere near enough for the lack of entertainment on offer. This cut is only a good move if the club announce MM is leaving. Nothing else will do.

Season tickets cover home games only. Even though last season was our worst in living memory it is too early to say that results on the pitch have improved this time around, as we are still 6 points short of the total points achieved at home last season and also 6 goals short. We have already lost 2 more league games at home this season than we did in the whole of last season. On the plus side results away from home have definitely improved.

So the restaurant owner has offered 10% off the foul gruel that his restaurant has served up for last two years, on the basis that he just MIGHT change the chef. Now...... Should I a. wait until I hear about the chef thing..... or b. wait until I hear about the chef thing....

Yes, it is the same answer for a and b.

harlingblue added 05:22 - Mar 27
A change of price, for ticket holders. A change on the pitch is what we desire. A team on the front foot, shooting , not being scared of a miss, just going for goal.
