Pompey Boss Jackett Linked With Town
Tuesday, 24th Apr 2018 10:06

Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett is the latest manager reported to be a contender for the vacant Town job.

According to the Daily Mirror, Jackett is among those being considered to replace Mick McCarthy.

The 56-year-old took charge at then-newly-promoted Pompey in the summer of 2017 and has taken them to eighth in League One, four points off the play-offs.

Former Wales international Jackett, who has previously managed Watford, where he spent his entire playing career, Swansea, Millwall, Wolves and briefly Rotherham, signed a new contract in November tying him to the Fratton Park club until the summer of 2021.

Wigan manager Paul Cook, Jackett’s predecessor at Portsmouth, is now the bookies’ favourite for the Town job at 4-1 with Bet Victor ahead of Lincoln’s Danny Cowley and Steven Gerrard at 5-1.

Tony Mowbray is the fourth favourite at 10-1 with Shrewsbury’s Paul Hurst at 14-1 ahead of Alan Pardew and Shefki Kuqi, who are both 16-1.

Meanwhile, Taiwan manager Gary White, 43, has said he'd be keen on the job. The former British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Shanghai Shenxin and Guam boss would appear a big outsider for the role.

Gforce....I don't think that's the issue. When you look at the kind of salary Mr Evans seems prepared to pay for a club manager...any manager outside the premier league would welcome very much the chance of becoming town manager. Mowbray and Cook would double there current earnings and some...

Just followed the link above. Very impressive sounding guy whose done a great job with footballs international minnows. Love the sound of his ideas of the way to play the game and very self confident to boot! Nothing wrong in that. It's about time we had a manager who actually believes we can get back and actually compete with the "big boys" rather than doss around the nether reaches of the championship for eternity! I say to ME, at least give him an interview. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

I've been wanting a reason to say this for years, the opportunity has just arrived and someones beaten me to it! I'm saying it anyway. No Jackett required! (if you're a fairly young supporter, you'll probably need to google those three words!) Unless i've missed something, he's done little of note.

Unfortunately, the most realistic option on that list is probably Pardue - he doesn't have to make a decision about whether to leave his current club...

Whilst I am keeping a totally open mind as to who becomes the next Manager here at Portman Road, I struggle to believe this link purely as this doesn't come across as “trying something different”, an extract taken from Marcus' interview being released tomorrow.

It will be interesting to hear that interview, although I still believe that a Managerial appointment won't be made until a few weeks after the completion of this season.

“Whether the journey for me continues or not. Let's see. If it does, I can only see it being really strong if we can keep the right players." Tony Mowbray is addressing the half a dozen or so journalists gathered in the Griffin Park press room.
Methinks he could be the man to take over the helm at Portman Road and a popular choice at that and his words suggest that he could be looking at pastures new....Ipswich Town FC maybe ?
