Burley Applies for Town Job
Friday, 4th May 2018 12:05

Former Town boss George Burley has revealed he has applied for his old job at Portman Road and would have fellow Blues legend Terry Butcher working alongside him were he to be appointed.

Burley, 61, enjoyed a successful spell in charge of the Blues between 1994 and 2002 during which time he took Town into the Premier League via the play-offs and to fifth in the top flight and consequently back into the UEFA Cup.

“Everyone has kept asking me about it and, after much consideration, I’ve applied,” Burley told the EADT.

“And I’d have Terry Butcher working with me too. Just like me he’s got the club in his blood, lives in Suffolk, and is desperate to see better times.

“People might say I have been out of the game for a while, but I have lived in Ipswich for the last four years and been at virtually every home game so I understand the current mood and what is required going forwards.”

Burley, who had previously said he’d like to work at Portman Road again but not as manager, was last in a management job at Cypriot club Apollon Limassol for a short spell in 2012.

Despite his illustrious history with the Blues both as a player and manager, the former Scotland boss would appear an outsider for the current vacancy.

GB's appointment would certainly boost ticket sales and get a lot of the supporters back on side with proper football. Benefit for Evans would be more gate revenue and I think that is very important to him and was one of the three things that led to MMs departure.
I think GB would be a good appointment with my other preferences in order being Mowbray, Cook and Hurst. Will Evans take the plunge with GB though? To me it depends on the priority he places on having the fans onside and thus lifting ticket sales and having the team playing positive football. No manager is guaranteed success and showing promise in the lower divisions, while obviously creditable, again does not guarantee success in the Championship. Whoever Evans goes for is a risk so I prefer to take the risk on experience and being able to show an amount of success at this and the Prem level albeit for one amazing season ........

Also hoping that we can end the season on a high note today ..... it started with 4 on the trot so ending with 2 on the trot would be good....... just a pity about some of the stuff in between.
My wishes to everyone on here.
