Rotherham Boss Keen on Emmanuel Return But Expects Hurst to Want Him at Town
Wednesday, 30th May 2018 18:42

Rotherham boss Paul Warne says he’d love loanee right-back Josh Emmanuel to return to the New York Stadium when his League One play-off winners return to the Championship next season but expects his one-time Millers team-mate Paul Hurst will want to keep him at Portman Road.

Emmanuel, 20, enjoyed a successful season on loan with Rotherham, who beat Hurst’s former club Shrewsbury 2-1 in Sunday’s play-off final at Wembley, carrying off their Young Player of the Year trophy and making 37 starts and one sub appearance.

“I’d like to keep Josh, he makes me pull my hair out at times, what little I have got, but he is great going forward and he is definitely exciting for a number of reasons,” Warne told Millers Time,

“He is a great kid. I can see Hursty thinking he will keep him, as I would. That will be the most difficult of the loans.”

Emmanuel, who Warne believes came on “leaps and bounds in the second half of the season”, says he enjoyed his time in South Yorkshire.

“This has been life-changing, every footballer wants to be playing week in week out and thanks to the gaffer and the coaching staff,” said the Londoner, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2019 with Town having an option for a further season.

“It has been a great opportunity and I am so thankful that is has turned out well.

"We will see what happens, obviously I am an Ipswich player but I just want to celebrate now. [Coming back] is not really down to me, I just focus on my football, but I have loved my time here.”

Almost does us a favour in the circumstances that we have a new manager who needs to assess the players at his disposal before passing judgment. Not saying that Mick would've got rid of him, such has Emmanuel shone this season, but anyone on our books who has been performing well elsewhere has definitely got a clean slate at Portman Road now.

Reallllly praying we do keep hold of him and I'd be very suprised if we let him go. Defensively, he can switch off, but massive future for such a powerful young lad!

SURELY Josh will be in our first team squad next season? Paul Hurst was a fullback in his playing days; so I'm hoping that one of the first things he will do is to help Josh and Miles both reach their full potential, playing for Town.

I was a bit baffled when he was in our first team then suddenly out on a full season loan.
Most of our players who have gone out on loan under Mick were forgotten about, and if they did well, sold off.
It always seemed like Mick was bringing in players saying how great they were, then banished them from the team for never being good enough.
Looking forward to how Hurst handles development of the youngsters.

Really pleased for the lad and I'd certainly pick him above Spence and certainly wouldn't want to see Iorfa return ahead of Josh.

There is something about this kid I really like. Athletic, quick and if you can get him charging down the wing, I'm stuffed if you'd see me get in the way. Looks very powerful. He also comes accos as a genually nice lad.

Don't think Josh was any worse than Jordan Spence or Dominic Iorfa. The former can play in the centre, and the latter has gone;so Emmanuel has a fair chance of getting game time this season I hope, when he returns.

If we are playing with 3 Centre backs we need wing backs not full backs.. Enter josh Emmanuel

He reminds me of a right sided Tyrone Mings. The season on loan at Rotherham did him a power of good. I think he will be a first team regular next season

If we are looking to build for thr cuture then surely him and kenlock must be starters. Both better than what we usually played. How ever I willgive hurst the benefit to move it on as he sees fit as with total team selection as we all must surely

Odd glitch but basically a season of solid reports and seen as the real deal by Rotherham. Suppose we should be grateful that Mick sent him there to spare Josh from Mick's 'ways'. If he had stayed am sure he would have been in and out of contention at best and have his confidence rocked like so many others. We have to handle our youth better....enter Paul Hurst.

Go make that RWB spot your own Josh !

Best wishes to Josh but I can't help feeling Barry Cotter is a better long term prospect. Anyway, the future's looking bright.

Bluerthanthou.I thought Cotter looked good in the right back/wing back position too;but don't think we have seen enough of him to judge whether he is better than Josh.

If Gareth Southgate, and the top Premiership Managers can move players around then so can Paul Hurst. In some ways Emmanuel reminds me of Kyle Walker who fits that category;so it could be possible to play them both

If Chambo can play that position, then anything is possible lol !!!

Fantastic talent needs to be in our 1st team squad in August. Like Johnathan Parr, JE was a far better fullback than MM's blokey mate and skipper Chambers.

Had Terry Butcher still been playing for us, organising that back line, his tendency to switch off defensively would not be a problem whatsoever.
