Chalobah Away With England U19s
Friday, 13th Jul 2018 15:47

New Blues loanee Trevoh Chalobah is with the England U19s squad ahead of the European Championships in Finland and will miss Saturday’s trip to Braintree and perhaps all of Town’s pre-season programme.

The 19-year-old Chelsea central defender or midfielder has already joined up with the squad for the tournament which runs from Monday until the final on July 29th.

Even if England fail to make it out of the group stages, in which they play Turkey, Ukraine and France, Chalobah will be away until July 23rd when he would only realistically be able to play in the home friendly against West Ham.

Town have four other players who could potentially also be in the squad, Andre Dozzell, Tristan Nydam, Flynn Downes - all of whom have won caps at that level previously - and Ben Morris, who has played for the U17s and U18s.

The squad, which is already subject to a number of clubs refusing to release their players, is officially confirmed on Monday with England’s first match against Turkey on Tuesday.

Dozzell, who alongside Chalobah was a member of the squad which carried off the trophy in Georgia a year ago, is definitely not involved, Town having confirmed that he will be in their squad at Braintree tomorrow.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Ben Amos, who was linked with the Blues recently, has joined Millwall on a season-long loan from Bolton.

That’s not ideal, really isn’t. But good luck to him, hope he enjoys the experience.

Not ideal. Wouldn’t be a huge problem if we had other new players to bed in, but that just leaves one new signing for the first pre season game. There may still be three weeks to go, but with so many players leaving, this is not good.

Usually I'd say it'll be a fantastic experience but this time I feel he'd be better suited staying and getting used to playing against real men and more physical opponents ready for the new season.

So our central defensive partnership will be Chambers and ...?

Trac70 added 20:54 - Jul 13
Good news about Amos though. IF Bart goes Amos wouldn't have been my 1st choice.

According to a friend of a friend (not the most reliable way of getting info I know...), Hurst has been very impressed by Spence. So if I was taking a guess....Chambers and Spence in the centre, with Emmanuel and Cotter competing for the RB position.

I am assuming the Husrt knew this was likely?

Why is this a problem for some he is representing his country great honour and he will get correct match fitness far better than in friendlies against the likes of Braintree. Why cant people be happy for players representing tgeir country

Have we not been bleating on about the kids never being given a chance, did not Spence and Knudsen do well at the end of season as c/bs I,m dam sure there's telephone calls and agents busy as I write this,it's time for a change wether it's sink or swim it had to be done,as under the previous encumbents we were going downhill playing wise,it might take time but we are on our way, have we not had an offer accepted for an attacking player Jeez whatever next maybe a big c/b next
