Bolton Still Targeting Garner
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 09:06

Bolton Wanderers reportedly remain keen on landing Blues frontman Joe Garner before Thursday’s 5pm deadline.

Trotters boss Phil Parkinson confirmed his club’s interest in the 30-year-old last Friday with a bid believed to have been lodged with the Blues. Town manager Paul Hurst said on Saturday that their interest would be considered.

“We’ll look at that situation,” he said. “As always, if we feel it’s the right thing to do we’ll look at it. If it’s not then Joe will stay with us.”

According to the Bolton News, Parkinson is maintaining his pursuit of Garner, who it is believed wouldn’t be averse to a return to his native North-West. Talks are said to be advanced with two clubs regarding a couple of potential new frontmen, Garner one of them.

“We want another striker,” Parkinson said. “[Bolton chairman] Ken [Anderson] is working towards that and I’ve been in regular contact with him on that subject. He’s been progressing it alongside [club secretary] Simon Marland with a couple of other clubs.

“Every manager wants that extra quality at the top of the pitch, that competition level, but also Ken wants us to be strong in that department too. He’s trying very hard to get one of those deals over the line.”

Garner was initially linked with Bolton back in June when it was reported that they would offer the Blues £500,000 for the former Preston, Nottingham Forest and Rangers man.

If we could get enough from this to get Windas as well as Jackson then that would be well worth doing. Need another CB as well though

Unless he's desperate to go back up north and is unsettled at the club then I have no idea why we'd even contemplate selling him. He was one of our better players last season and added something different up front. I especially wouldn't sell him for less than we paid for him and particularly to a team like Bolton who we may end up being in a scrap with if things don't go to plan.

I agree, BlueBlood90. Perhaps if it allowed us to get Windass in, however....

Can't see where Garner fits in to Hurst's plans.

We are now looking at a Team with lots of pace, high energy and playing a pressing game.

If we can get all the targets in we will be in for an exciting season.

The nice thing is these players want to come here because of the Manager. I doubt if MM would have had similar appeal although I do appreciate his past transfer dealings have helped us enormously with the financing.

Don't think he is a PH player, so probably best to let him go if that is what he wants.

Love everyone talking about "". Hopefully we also have enough talent in the squad with Dozzell, Nolan, Edwards, and others to step up as (if you watched last night's game) the likes of Forest have lots of pace, high energy and playing a pressing game BUT also have some real quality on the pitch and on the bench.

Optimistic about the season, but just hope this strategy is not 2 seasons too late with the amount of money and quality of players kicking about the league.

Let's hope all these players who haven't played together before can gel and score as many goals as at the start of last season. Hopefully he's picked the ones who are up to the job. It's a bold move to make such wholesale change. Thankfully MM made a few buys that proved astute and are allowing it ! Hopeful but very nervous.

Let's cash in, I kow he puts himself about but is always on his backside & runs a tightrope on ending up in the referees book. 30 years old so no spring chicken, sell him & reinvest the cash into getting Windass in! COYB

Not too bothered if he goes but seriously, why don't these players who want to move “closer to home” look at a bleeding map before signing for us in the 1st place.

😂 that made me laugh lightningboy.

I should imagine the answer to that is that your average footballer doesn't have a degree in geography.

If I was Hurst right now:

Sell Garner
Buy Tilt and Windass
Bring in Samir Nasri to help wingers (he just wants somewhere to train)
Sign up Liam Feeney

Premiership here we come!

If Garner wants to go then manager should move him on, but surely worth more than 500K??? Should hold out for more than that. Perhaps have a massive "avoid relegation" clause. Don't like the fact that we are selling him to rivals for that amount.

TonyHumes:::don't think Feeney will turn us from mid table to premier league.

I would personally love to keep him and bring in Windass. Let's say our 3 forward thinking players were Harrison, Edwards and Jackson then I would like to see Garner and Windass as players to come on or even start, depending on the form of the other 3. If only have one of Garner and Windass I'm not confident in Sears coming on and though Morris looked decent Saturday Can he do it week in week out coming off the bench in the championship?

If he's unsettled probably best to let him go but only if we can get Windass in which might be unlikely.

One negative is the extent to which all these last minute transfers happen after the season starts - we could have four new signings within the next day or so. How long will it take for these to fit in, why can't we bring the transfer deadline back to 1st August??

Garner one of our better players? Spent most of the season on his arse. Mick's hoofball played to his strengths but Hurst's style does not thankfully. Would be glad to see him go.

Not fussed at all if he goes. Spends most of his time falling over and trying to con the ref.
