Hurst: Chalobah Should Have an Excellent Career
Thursday, 16th Aug 2018 17:45

Town manager Paul Hurst says he’s been pleased with the start loanee Trevoh Chalobah has made to his Blues career.

The 19-year-old Chelsea midfielder or central defender made his senior debut in the 2-2 opening day draw with Blackburn and has played the full 90 minutes in all three games so far.

“He’s a young lad that should have an excellent career ahead of him and we’re hoping to help take some of the first steps in real first team action,” Hurst said.

“I think already he’s shown a value to us. I think he can get better but he’s an athlete, that’s again been backed up by looking at the information that we collect.

“He’s comfortable on the ball, maybe at times he should be a little bit tidier, a little bit more careful, but overall I think we know we’ve got a player on our hands.”

Making his first Blues start in Tuesday’s game at Exeter was Tayo Edun, who is on loan for the season from another West London Premier League club, Fulham.

“Tayo did OK, some things he didn’t do great, some things he did OK,” Hurst reflected.

“Part of that midfield that balance wasn’t quite right in some respects, but again it was the first time we’d started with those three and on Monday we didn’t look at that, we were in after the weekend and then we travelled to Exeter.

“So that’s maybe one of the things behind that, the timing of it, you don’t get too much time particularly because of where we’re situated.

"We were straight on a coach whereas a lot of the other midweek games I’ve been used to having, you maybe have Monday morning, people are still around in the afternoon before travelling for the game the next day.

“In fairness to the lads, we didn’t have hours to really drill things home but some of the things that were happening, perhaps naively, I expected them to know and would have helped them to have more time on the ball or perhaps get into goalscoring opportunities.”

Personally, I think he has been our best player so far this season

I agree. He'll only get stronger and better as the season progresses. He's an obvious talent.

Watching him vs Blackburn I felt more comfortable when he had the ball under pressure than when he had it in space. His first touch was more like a pass on occasions! Decent player though
