McAuley Had Agreed Terms With Town Monday, 3rd Sep 2018 10:40 Former Blues skipper Gareth McAuley had agreed terms with the Blues last week before opting to join Scottish Premiership Rangers instead. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard confirmed after yesterday’s 1-0 Old Firm defeat to Celtic that the 38-year-old, a free agent following his release by West Brom at the end of last season, is set to join his club, probably later today. “I hope that’s going to be the case,” he said. “There is no major rush, he’s been called up by Northern Ireland, so we won’t see him for a couple of weeks.” The Blues held talks with McAuley towards the end of last week and had agreed terms, however, the Northern Ireland international ultimately decided to join Rangers, the club he supported as a boy and who previously showed interest in him during his time at Town. McAuley, who also held talks with Hearts and had also been interesting Aberdeen, made 126 starts and one sub appearance for the Blues between June 2008 and May 2011. Yesterday, Town boss Paul Hurst confirmed that Town had also held talks with former West Ham defender James Collins last week and would speak to the Welshman again in the days to come.
