Walters Ruled Out of Ireland Friendly
Friday, 7th Sep 2018 20:47

Blues loan striker Jon Walters has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland’s friendly in Poland on Tuesday.

Walters has been allowed to return to Town reportedly to allow him to work on his fitness following a summer knee injury.

The 34-year-old won his 54th cap and played the full 90 minutes as Ireland were beaten 4-1 by Wales in last night’s UEFA Nations League tie in Cardiff.

Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski was not included in the Poland squad for their games during the international break.

Bit ambiguous. Is his knee injury still affecting his ability to play; or, perhaps as we saw against our feathered friends, does he needs to get fully match fit?

Hopefully more work next week will hone both fitness and sharpness - makes sense to give him that time.

Perhaps he's fallen out with Keane again!

I may be in the minority but I thought he was fully fit against Naridge.
He certainly chased the ball and the goal keeper down on more than one occasion. Very effective.

At 34 and with the previous knee injury, we Jon is going to have to miss certain games, but I hope his p attitude helps the younger lads in the dressing room.

I think when players hit their mid 30's isnoften not possible to compete at Intermational level and Club level on a regular basis. To prolong careers players often have to make a choice . I'd suggest JW is probably at that stage now.

Seem to remember reading somewhere that Walters and Harry Arter had a training ground altercation with Keane last week. It will be interesting to see whether Arter has withdrawn from the squad so as to be able to 'work on his fitness'.
