Danish Clubs Eyeing Knudsen
Tuesday, 4th Dec 2018 10:13

Danish Superliga top two FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland are reportedly eyeing Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen.

Knudsen is out of contract at the end of the season and, according to Danish newspaper BT Sport’s football podcast, that has alerted his country's two top clubs.

FC Copenhagen, who currently lead the Superliga by three points, are already said to have made contact with the 26-year-old’s agent but are reported to need to offload one of their current full-backs, probably Nicolai Boilesen, in order to recruit Knudsen, who has won six senior caps for Denmark. FC Midtjylland, who are behind them in second, are also said to be interested.

Knudsen, who is able to talk to other clubs about joining them next summer in January, recently confirmed that there was “concrete” interest in him from Middlesbrough and Stoke in the close season and it seems certain that a number of Championship clubs will also be monitoring the situation.

Last month manager Paul Lambert recommended to owner Marcus Evans that Knudsen be offered new terms and the player subsequently confirmed that Evans had spoken to him with discussions now in the hands of his agent.

Knudsen, who has said he is happy at Town, joined the Blues from his local side Esbjerg fB in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £300,000. He has made 144 starts and two sub appearances, scoring four times.

Wouldn't miss him in the slightest. Every team we've played this season has targeted Spence and Knudsen as they're so poor. I genuinely don't think he's any better than Kenlock at present and Kenlock has the potential to be far better. If we can get any reasonable fee then I'd accept it.

Let him go and take Spence with him

He's an experienced Championship player and an international. Probably more convincing on the left side of a back three. I would offer him a new contract.

ahh! a good bit of news at last, preferably sell him for a profit for Mr Evans :)

By the way his nickname 'Mad Dog' I'm not sure where that came from? maybe on second thoughts he's a bit like my canine - chasing balls like a headless chicken and ignoring all what's going on around him...oh well at least he scored two against Norwich.

Jonas can't put a foot right for some people on here, he is the eternal scapegoat.

What's more staggering is the bloody-minded short-sightedness shown by some. Do people honestly believe that we will find better than a Danish international when in League One (which is where we'll likely be)?

He's looked much better as a centre back. Maybe when Kenlock is fit and Chambers needs a rest?

Really don't think any of our back 5 are indispensable.

He's not going to sign a new contract with us, with the very real possibility we will be relegated. He will move on in January.. Lambert will have someone lined up. One left back.. one right back and one centre forward.
Anyway.... more importantly.. Freddy Bishops back.. Freddie Sears is amongst the goals.. and we're blooding one of our boys in Lankaster...
Up the boys in Blue

The only thing that truly surprises me is that in the whole of Denmark there isnt anyone else who can badly throw a ball a medium distance and kick a ball in to touch with his left foot?

Take Spence with you

Let PL make the decisions as stated Knudsen is scapegoat with Skuse chambers....only 4 games ago Sears and anyone else associated with previous manager were in that bracket. Kenlock has not been able to play two decent consecutive games for town how weird comments are on here

Some of the abusive comments about JK (using asterisks neither disguises nor excuses the abuse) are totally against the culture plus values of this great club and the terms & conditions of TWTD. It's one thing to express views about a player's capability but totally unacceptable to label a player (or former Manager) with such abusive comments. I would prefer to see those so called supporters leave before another player/Manager is hounded out.
TWTD should take action against those abusing the terms & conditions of this site

We need to find another Pair of full backs - eg Cresswell or at the very least, a Mings. Donacien seemed better defensively than Spence, and Kenlock if fit would be worth a few games.

You can't argue with the stats, our back 5 are garbage. I would not give a flying one if any of them left cause they are seriously letting the side down. I'd bring back the loanees and the out of favours opposed to what we currently have.

Please let this be true. Shocking player who's had about 4 good games in his 144. Can't cross, can't defend, can't pass, can't head clear, poor commutator. We can easily get better in that position. While he's talking to clubs in January (probably already done so now) can he ask them if they can take Spence & Chambers. Three donkeys are better than one. But one get two free. We need to overhaul the defence in January or were doomed if it's not too late already.

COYB !!! Believe in miracles. We need one.

I would rather accept Lambert's view on any player than many posters on here. Quite frankly I am ashamed at the abuse Knudsen gets. Perhaps the abusers are all Trump Republicans or Daily Mail readers but whatever it is no need to use the keyboard inappropriately. Time for Phil to remind folk of the guidelines for posting.

Tractorboybig , ''give him away'' ......and when there is no money for buying new players ? Evans wont be throwing new money in ,any money to spend will come from selling players ,as usual .

of course JK cannot be successful stopping every cross, but the odd one or two would be helpful. Sorry but not a fan.

Does anybody think Jonas will sign a new contract to play for us in Div 1? Of course not he's far too good for that..........well he thinks he is.

I would think that if Knudsen gets the chance to play for FC Copenhagen in front of 50,000 in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid or Bayern, he might well be tempted to take it. While he's not a world-beater, I do think he comes in for some unfair criticism. It's not THAT easy to simply replace him with a solid Championship-level left back. I wish Kenlock well, 'cos he's "one of our own," but is he really proven yet, week in and week out? And we would still need a back-up. Time will tell.

Well said Bert. Some of the comments posted are too strong and unacceptable. I am not a Knudsen fan for his football ability but as a person he comes across as being a very decent person so does not deserve the unacceptable comments.
