Lambert: Great Experience for Wright to Train With First Team Thursday, 6th Dec 2018 17:27 Town boss Paul Lambert says keeper Harry Wright will have benefited from having been involved more with the first-team squad in recent weeks. Wright, 20, the son of former Blue Richard, was given a thorough workout on the Portman Road pitch prior to a recent home match and has travelled with the squad to away matches. “He’s very good with the ball with his feet,” Lambert said regarding the former Manchester City academy keeper. “Harry is still growing, is still developing, but I think it’s a great experience for him as well. “And when he trains with us, and any of the kids who have trained with us, they’ve never let themselves down.” The Blues manager says the youngsters learn from training alongside the senior players. “I think it’s important for them to come up and see what it’s like,” he added. “There have been one or two, we’ve got Jack Lankester in there, Flynn Downes is in there, Andre Dozzell’s in there, they’ve all stepped up to the mark. “The more you get that, the more easy the transition is. But they’re still a wee bit away from it but there are really good signs there.” Asked whether there had been a spring in Lankester’s step having made his full debut at Forest last week, Lambert said: “I think Jack’s always quite a bubbly character. Again, I’m not going to sit here and put pressure on him, he’s only 18, it’s impossible for you to hang your hat on an 18-year-old every time. “But he’s certainly done himself no harm with the way he plays, as I’ve said before he’s one helluva talent.” He does, however, believe that the current situation is tough for the younger players just coming into the team. “It’s unfair, it’s an impossibility for 18- and 19-year-old kids to try to carry the can. It’s not normal this situation, they should be given help in that situation. “If they are coming off the bench or they are starting we should have a more experienced team to help them along but you tend to find we’re having to rely on them lads a lot, which is unfair.”
