Lambert: Massive Game Against Reading
Tuesday, 26th Feb 2019 16:58

Blues boss Paul Lambert says Saturday’s visit by Reading is a massive game with the Royals currently one place out of the relegation zone, nine points plus goal difference ahead of still-bottom Town.

The club have cut prices for the the Blues’ latest six-pointer with adult tickets £12, senior citizens aged 65-plus and under-23s charged £8 and under-19s £3.

“It’s a massive game,” Lambert told the club site. “They all are but they are the closest team that we can reach so that adds to it.

“We’re playing well, that’s the main thing. We are on a little run and we have to look to keep that momentum going.

"The support we’ve had has been fantastic and we are going to need all that again on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, former Blues midfielder Kundai Benyu has joined Town’s 2001 UEFA Cup opponents Helsingborgs IF in Sweden on a year-long loan from his current club Celtic.

The 21-year-old left Town for Parkhead in the summer of 2017 but has made only two starts and two sub appearances for the Bhoys. The Zimbabwe international spent the second half of last season on loan at Oldham.

Well be there Paul, don't you worry . Think we need to give Quaner an extra shout too, to help his confidence. It's a lot on his shoulders tbh .

Hopefully the last of the massive games.
Doesn't matter how massive we can never get 3 points on offer. The last 10 games have after all been massive.
Hopefully then we might start to build and play the team ready for August.

Sick of the it's a massive game, sadly every game has become this down to the mismanagement of this club by many involved over the years.

Don't throw the towel in just yet guys.

Why would we want to give Quaner any more game time?

I would rather see players that are ours from here on in.
And only ones who we have plans for, with next season very much in mind.
Harrison, Jackson, etc there proven in L1 right? Or winning L2 as champions.
Let's get them in the team, and keep them there.

Yes yet another big game...amazing how many of these have come and gone without a win.

Keep playing Quaner, he's improving with every minute on yhe pitch. As for playing Jackson and Harrison, they're the kind of signings that got us in this mess!!!

# saxonblue74 They was wrote off after 3 games. In typical Ipswich fashion, that's what got us into this mess. Persisting with the cozy gang throughout is another big reason we're so far behind everyone else.
Yes let's keep playing Quaner, he won't be here next season.
But why's that matter. In typical Ipswich fashion.
Leave our own players out the squad or leave them on the bench.
These are the biggest reasons we're in this mess.
Deluded...

Three points from nine is not a 'little run' in my book. But I appreciate he's got to try and keep spirits up and can't throw in the towel. A winnable game, hope Keane is fit. COYB!

Saxonblue74 You could keep playing Quaner until the last game of the season, chances of him making a great impression is practically zero. Where as Harrison and Jackson are ours, cost us a hell of a lot of money and are proven out the Championship.
Not rocket science.
And you have a much bigger chance of 2 of our own making an impression than Quaner ever will.

Three games unbeaten is more than a little run in our book.
Can't remember the last time we bettered that.

ITFCsince73, opinionated I would accept, but delusional??!! Performances have improved greatly since PL has introduced Quaner, Keane, Bree along with some of our own. The mistakes that are costing us wins are down to pressure, not our guys becoming poor overnight. As for "the cosy gang", they are players who have served us well and continue to do so. I find it shameful to read the criticism and often personal attacks on our players........in my opinion!

Quaner won the pen and assisted Nolan's goal. We're not down yet, so keep him in I say! Come on you blues!

I know it's tough but I still love the town :)

I happen to agree with itfcsince73, he is delusional if he thinks we are doing well. Why are we happy with a run of mediocre results against teams as poor, or, if lambert would have it, poorer than us cos we are playing well. We are bottom and nine points adrift! If that means we are good then god knows what he thinks bad is. Make no mistake, if lambert gets a better offer he will be gone so just remember guys he's not the 'chosen one', and no better that that last clown, and before you mark me down and disagree, the league table doesn't lie, it's results that count and lambert has not produced the goods

Saxonblue74 The players bought in, in January haven't delivered what they was brought in for.
We haven't won any games. We haven't scored any goals.
We have therefore our own players, who will be our players next season.
A majority of players bought in by Hurst have failed in the championship, but have proved to be very good players in L1. Where we will be playing next season.
By playing Quaner we just serve a purpose for Huddersfield to have him in the shop window for his return to the German second division come the summer.
By finishing this season by playing loan players or players that the management team feel will not be here next season, serves no benefit to ITFC what so ever.
Players PL has brought in have proved to be no better than what we already have.
Or at least haven't improved results, maybe performances, but alone that wasn't going to be enough. We needed wins and haven't got them.

Yes the cozy gang have been good for the club. But not for at least 3yrs. And again aren't part of our future. Or at least I hope not. We need to play our own until season end, for the good of the club. So with some “help” again brought in, in the summer, we give ourself a good a footing as possible. To go again.

Itfcsince1973, don't disagree with all you say but I don't quite understand building a team around "proven league 1 players"? Surely we need to continue our aspirations of a successful and competitive championship squad whichever league we are playing in? PH signings are not the answer to any questions this season or next. I can agree if we look to be playing more of our upcoming youth but not until survival is mathematically impossible. As for Quaner, Keane, Bree and particularly Judge not improving our squad? I have to disagree.

Win it: cuts through the hype, the hope, the expectation - and to show that we can! 😀

Saxon. I haven't made a mention of Judge, as personally I think he's total quality, especially against what we've had in recent years. Still don't think he's fully fit but already head and shoulders above anyone else.
And in my opinion should be given new improved longer term contract, and as I've said previous more than possible captain material.
Alan Judge is what I would describe as a proper player.
I like Keane, but not convinced he's long term. Wages, fitness, and 3rd tier football. All stumbling blocks for him and us. Bree I like but would prefer Josh. And again I just think with Bree, others will benefit not us. Quaner joins Bree in the help others bracket imo.

ITFC73, you may be right about stumbling blocks with wages etc in lge1 but why would the same not apply to all talent we have and not just one or two of our loanees? Hoping we have the ambition to maintain our squad and ultimately move forward. So hope you're wrong but fear you're probably not! We're in a catch 22 right now, many of our players (homegrown or otherwise) are performing very well but for whatever reason we're not getting results to survive. The result of this could be putting our best talent in the shop window for the vultures that are circling, waiting for our relegation

Saxon. I'm probably in the biggest minority, but I believe and of course hope that Hursts signings will come good.
And there possibly the only players we have, who you could more or less guarantee will be here next season.
No one will give us half what we paid for them. And no one would pay them what we currently do.

NSL added 21:34 - Feb 26
It's a completely irrelevant game if he plays anyone that won't be here in League 1 next season. We should be preparing for a hell of a fight next year and stop this delusion about staying up.
