Chambers Signs New Deal
Friday, 15th Mar 2019 20:42

Town skipper Luke Chambers has signed a new two-year deal with the Blues. The 33-year-old’s current contract was due to end in the summer, although Town had an option for a further season.

“Obviously I’m delighted to be a part of the club’s future for another two years,” said Chambers, who has made 313 starts and one sub appearance, scoring 15 goals, since joining Town in the summer of 2012 after leaving tomorrow's opponents Nottingham Forest.

“I’ve made no secret of the fact that as long as I can play, I want to be here - and maybe beyond that as well.

“I have spoken to [owner] Marcus [Evans] regularly over the last month or so and the manager has shown his support for me and it’s good to get things sorted, for my family as well.

“I’m 33 but to me that is just a number. I feel as fit as I have ever done. I want to play every game here over the next two years. I want to play beyond that.

“I’ve got close on 700 appearances in my career and I want to get to 800 and more. Nothing will drive me on more than to play my part in making a success of this team over the next two years.

“I’m proud to play for this club. I’m proud to be skipper. The club has been a massive part of my career and I want to leave here and people can look back and say, ‘Yeah, he was a good guy to have here’.”

Sorry but he's one of main reasons we are where we are. Terrible decision making and at fault for a hell a lot of goals. For the few games he didn't play we looked far more confident team. But what does following Ipswich for over 40 years prove... Opinions are very wide spread but that's what this sites all about. We all follow Ipswich.. Sorry but he will probably play every game too.. Poor decision making but may be better against poorer opposition next season. Time will tell..

I don't understand the delusion, most fans seem to want to build our team around two 33 year olds who have been playing the worse football I've ever witnessed in my 15 odd years watching us. Chambers tbf has been a good captain and a great leader and I can see what he could offer, but I haven't seen it from Skuse, he blames others for his own mistakes and most Sunday league players can pass it better, he's even said he doesn't see himself as a manager type like Chambers does. But as I said we have had must win games and Lamberts preference was Chalobah. A 20 year olds first ever year in Championship, who happens to of matched Skuses goal tally the whole time been with us, tells you everything.

....... obviously a few on here are far better qualified (or think they are ! ) than Evans or Lambert to make such decisions.

Best get your wallets out, buy the Club, apply for the Manager's / Coach post - or keep stum, find some logic in your thinking, commit to the future, or simply - shut up...... !!!

Anybody saying turn your attention away from Chambers to Huws/Adeyemi for what they have given the club seems strange to say...McCarthy was the person who signed them and he's the one the finger should be pointed at (particularly with Huws injury record before we signed him) but this has nothing to do with on pitch play!! which the anti-Chambers posters are getting at, but yes Huws one of the highest paid players here and costing the club £1M coming from Cardiff has done the club no favours but that's nothing to do with Chambers.

Blueboy. You see Chambo as the captain fantastic, great bloke etc.
I respect you for that
But I only look on Chambo on the football side.
I don't care if MM, Hurst, Lambo always made Chambo a nailed on starter.
That doesn't mean the other managers in the Championship would do the same.
I don't pretend to have the judgment of professional managers/coaches.
But he's a liability, pure and simple.

Why the 2 year contract? We had the option for next season.....
Why have we committed to 2 years? When there was no need.
We carry on being a shambles of a club, regarding the way it's run.
At 33 and deteriorating season by season, this season game by game.
This is madness.
Maybe Chicago Fire sent scouts to Bristol game, see Chambo only knew hoofball, see he nearly threw the game away in final minutes, and thought thanks but no thanks. Chambers is not capable of a long pass forward, only a hoof and hope. Any pressure when defending, just crumbles like a pack of cards. L1 and their young forwards will rip him apart.

TimmyH ......... what good is 'finger pointing' at McCarthy now - he's gone. As people when it's convenient points out.

I'll be the first to admit, and have said so, that Chambers is no threat to the likes of 'the Wolf' going forward, and his future value to the Club will be more off, than on the pitch. His time as a player has gone.
Being a successful, and valued player, does NOT ONLY rest with what you can do on the pitch - just ask any Manager you like to, they will tell you the same. Chambers value to the Club is in other directions now.

We cannot win a game with all these great, promising youngsters everyone raves about now - so how are we going to by blooding them all next season ? Do so, and half of them will be injured within 6 weeks is the reality of it.

Mick Mills has re-iterated the above point again today - is he a mug who doesn't know what he's talking about ? - NO. Other than in the opinion of a Mug ... !!
Surely you accept these kind of people cannot be wrong - and you lot right in your criticism and under valuation of Chambers to the Club - NOT NECESSARILY ON THE PITCH.

My final shot is this - any defensive youngster who see's Chambers as a threat to keeping him out of the team, needs to prove the point, and it won't take much to do that now, will it. ?

Don't think defence has been our weakness, but not been our strength either. As we don't have one right now

This is great news and will so called supporters please get off his back.

The 2 year deal suggests a coaching job down the line which is fine with me, if he can instil in the boys his qualities of leadership and never say die that will do for me.
