Chambers: I Still See a Lot to Be Positive About
Monday, 18th Mar 2019 20:35

Skipper Luke Chambers believes there is much to be positive about at Town despite admitting that it’s now going to be difficult to escape the drop. Chambers, 33, signed a new two-year deal with the Blues on Friday.

“The manager and the owner are working closely together and they are creating a plan. It’s a plan they are going to stick to,” he told the club site.

“We know it’s going to be difficult to get out of the position we are in but I still see a lot to be positive about.

“We have a lot of good youngsters here, we’ve got some really good experienced players here, there are lads here that are very talented but have been unfortunate with injury that we need to get them on the pitch.

“But listen, when you are getting 24,000 fans at home games like we did the other week and have the atmosphere like we’ve had and you are bottom of the league, that shows you that the club will be alright, whoever is here.”

Spoken by a fully committed individual, who is effectively straddling the half player, half management material, line.

All of what he says is spot on. However, there has to come a point, post relegation, where results and performances - not fine words or intentions - are the litmus test of our recovery.

Just to add an alternative view.

Any decent young player will be sold to cover the additional £7 million the club is expected to lose next season, our experienced players are a bit past it now, the treatment room is full up and there won't be crowds of 24,000 when we are mid table playing Scunthorpe at home on a wet January Tuesday night.

Not having a pop at Chambers but I'd be feeling positive with a new two year deal after the disaster that has been this season.

Apologies again for living so relentlessly in the real world.

Henryblue that's exactly the positive comment we need at the moment. You should be proud of yourself.

Love his enthusiasm, however come August I feel most of this current squad won't be here. Loans rightfully back at their own club, Bart, Dozzell & couple more sold to be replaced by freebies that only ME will allow. The few positives of PL and some of the youngsters can hopefully make us into a winning team from the off, but it's not going to be easy. As for the 24000 a game it's going to take season tickets being halved in price for us to get those numbers in L1.

Chambo. My prediction of 20 points from safety come the final whistle of the season. Makes your new contract a joke.
Much like your teams performances of this sorry season.
That I believe will take many seasons to recover from.
This is my opinion with my head out of the sand dunes.

There were lots of positive comments and opinions at the beginning of this season! Nice being positive but let's get reality and perspective involved this time as well please.

We are currently in dire straights - an unknown situation for this football club, but if we manage to keep a core talent together, add a goal scorer, and learn the division quickly - we could make top 6 next year. Anything else above and beyond will be a bonus which we need to keep striving for and hopefully get.

It's amazing how we've had the worst season in 62 odd years and we still have players being 'positive' - give it a rest!

Boys of 1981. Unlike you i dont believe the majority of this squad will be gone. In fact i would expect that, other than the loans, only bart and knudsen likely to leave. We can hopefully hold on to judge and keane and bring in one more striker, whether that be on a free(which isnt free neway), or for a fee. As for ur point about not gettibg 24,000 fans. Ur right. Because we have the most fickle fans in the country. Only a hard core of us will still go. Unlike norwich, who still got full houses in lge1 and the likes of man city did and now sunderland, still getting in wxcess of 30,000 crowds. Oh they go to portnan road singibg that they support the ipswich whether up or down. But then willtry they turn up next season? Remains to be seen. But if the past is anything to go by, id say its unlikely. Timmyh. As for you suggesting players, etc shouldnt be poditive? Have you been to any games lately and fekt the positivity around the club?

The only club in the land, where a fresh new contract to the captain,is a reward for our worst ever season.
Razor....Are you now suggesting from now, Chambo will be good for the club?? A quick glance at the league table gives a good idea how hes done so far....

Blues 1. You will find that Norwich, Sunderland and Man City, had a playing budget that told supporters they meant business. Our playing budget will be decided by the Marcus Evan's group......make your own conclusion what that might entail.

Reading comments made over the last week or so on this site. It's clear the majority believe a good goal scorer will be all that's required in L1.
You have to stop and think, in today's market, that type player will cost 5m plus and a 3 year contract of 20 grand a week minimum. That couldn't be further away from a ME budget, in L1.
Compare us to other clubs that pass in the other direction ie Luton Town.
They have a striker, who they could have sold for 5m plus last summer. But chose not to.
They could have sold him in the last window for more than double last summer, but chose not to.
At this moment in time, Luton Town wouldn't give you the time of day, unless bidding started at 15m.
I think we would agree that ME would have cashed in long ago had we had this type player.
But that is the going rate,
We bought Jackson because Collins was to expensive.
We have good young strikers at the club, but those who think that a quality striker will be brought in, still obviously don't get ME.
This is why all younger players need game time. Which apart from Bristol game we havnt yet seen. Our current youngsters are our only way back. Quality brought in?? Forget it, under ME that just wont happen.

Love all the positivity on here!

With you Blues1, I will still travel the country in Lge 1 supporting the boys in blue, whoever is wearing the shirt.

Seen the good and the bad times, but will forever be Blue

Any positives #trueblue are hard to find at the moment.
And yes same as you, I've supported through good and bad.
But currently bad, in fact as bad as I've known since the early seventies as far back as I go.
I look at current contracted players.
I look at our owner.
That only tells me, at this moment in time.
Those who think next season will be one of success.....dream on.
