Town Set to Be Away on Opening Day
Thursday, 13th Jun 2019 11:04

Town look set to be handed an away start to their 2019/20 campaign when the League One fixtures are announced at 9am next Thursday.

The Premier League fixtures were announced this morning and with the Blues and Norwich rarely scheduled at home on the same day, conclusions can be drawn on how Town’s 2019/20 might look by looking at the Canaries' programme.

Norwich have been handed a trip to Liverpool on their opening weekend of the season, which suggests the Blues will be at home for what would be their second game with an away match therefore appearing to be getting the campaign under way the previous week, the weekend of Saturday 3rd August with the EFL beginning a week earlier than the Premier League.

Following that second weekend first home League One game, the Blues seem set to have two more away matches, which comes as little surprise with Ed Sheeran playing concerts at Chantry Park around the weekend of Saturday 24th August.

Going by Norwich’s festive fixtures Town look to be at home on Boxing Day and away on New Year’s Day.

The Blues also appear likely to have a home game on the final day of their League One campaign, Saturday 2nd May, with Norwich at Chelsea that weekend.

As ever, Town’s fixtures will be available on TWTD when they are officially released at 9am next Thursday.

nathitfc89 - Lincoln City away might be the toughest fixture!

If seeing Norwich going to the European Champs on opening day should be yet another wake up call to our players, management and more specifically owner.

They had a plan, invested a sensible amount, more relevant they reinvested when selling e.g. Maddison and gave the manager time when he was struggling at the start of last season.

All lessons for us. If we get it right then why should we not be playing them again the season after next when we can hopefully pit our upward momentum against their parachute payments ! COYB !

Wouldn't it have been great if town's first game of the season was away to Liverpool rather than hoping it's Lincoln?

PortmanTerrorist: scum have had over £200m to “invest” and made a hash of returning to the PL in their typical Yo-Yo Club fashion. Yes they finally got it right last season . They had to sell Maddison because they were close to administration on the back of Relegation from the PL and a failure to get promoted again under parachute money. So let's not get carried away that they are something to emulate.

They will quite likely be relegated again this coming season.

TractorRoyNo1 we are opposite to Norwich, them being away on August 9th means we will be at home on August 10th, thus being away on August 3rd

Northstandveteran: PL is overhyped . I hope scum fans enjoy seeing their team stuffed week in week out and paying OTT prices for the privilege.

I saw on the news that Norwich have promised not to charge over £30 a ticket this season.

Should the PL stand for Paul Lambert opposed to Premier league I completely agree Arnie

NORTHSRABDVETERAN I would rather see my team win 1-0 against MK than lose 7-0 against MC.

I value your opinion Roy, my point was that I would rather my team were starting the season in the top flight opposed to the third tier.

Nodge are playing on the Friday evening. Surely that means that a home game the following day should be a possibility?

No nazemariner, the fixture list isn't based around TV

I pray it's not Pompey or Bristol Rovers. Can't make that weekend and they're my closet games.

Based on our away record last season, I think that every game will be a tough one :(

Will the PL & EFL consider the proximity of a PL team and a lowly EFL team worthy of separating? Not going to get vast numbers of visiting fans swarming to Ipswich, I would have thought.

It's always been a rule that when one of us is home the other is away. Both the premier league and the football league are aware that both clubs have agreed to this. It goes back several years when both police forces were used for crowd control at each other's stadium when there was a large contingent of away supporters. Possibly not so relevant these days.

Portman terrorist Norwich have spent no more on recruitment than us. There most successful signing was a free! Let's not get carried away with them as role models. Without Maddison to self they would have gone into administration with 200 million of parachute payments behind them!

I have a feeling we will enjoy our season more than they enjoy their's

dunno about that. We will struggle on recent form. Not much has changed to hyper positive
