Lambert: Germany Trip Beneficial
Tuesday, 16th Jul 2019 18:02

Blues boss Paul Lambert believes the 12-day training camp in Germany was a beneficial trip.

The Town squad flew back yesterday from the camp which was a combination of hard work and team bonding.

"It's important for everyone to get together and mix, so it's been a beneficial trip," Lambert told iFollow Ipswich.

"I think everyone applied themselves well too. All the players worked really hard in training and in the matches which was good to see.

"James [Norwood] and Luke [Garbutt] didn't take long to settle in either. It took James about a millisecond for him to come out of his shell!

"The situation was raw in that there wasn't that much to do, but because of that you get to see everybody's personality and as I've said I think that's really important for a team.”

The players have been given today off before they return to Playford Road with their next friendly at Colchester United on Friday (KO 7.30pm).

Meanwhile, former Town academy youngster Ben Knight is one of a number of young players to have been drafted into the Manchester City squad’s pre-season trip to China.

Knight and 10 other youngsters have made the trip with a number of senior players away on international duty.

The 17-year-old from Reach in Cambridgeshire was poached by City from Town in the summer of 2018 just as he was starting his scholarship after eight years at Playford Road.

Need to start winning games though, particularly considering the lose or draw culture of the last 18 months. We need to learn to win again.

No surprise that Paul has come out with this...it would have been more beneficial if we could have sneaked a win.

He needs a quick start to the season. Personally, not impressed by lambert at all.

Never mind sneaking a win ! How many times have we beat anyone by 2 clear goals in the last 2 seasons. I don't see us thumping anyone this season either unless we start to play a much more attacking formation. We will need the capability of scoring a decent number of goals to get out of League one. Going to Colchester on Friday to take a look for myself.

Not very beneficial if it's cost us Bishop for months!

My God!!!

Some of you guys on here need to take their goddamn happy pills. For weeks on TWTD I've read mainly negative comments every time a new story comes in, and it really shows some of the people on here seem to have a hard on for Town to fail miserably this season.

I for one will support Paul Lambert, the players, and the club that I love, as we need to show the team the same spirit that we had at the end of last season.

Bluewelshman well said but it is hard to be that positive for the coming season. Yes Norwood looks likely to be a hit but reports of continued defensive shambles in matches, our best midfielders all injured (Bishops looks very serious) or likely to take a lot of the season to get up to speed (Huws) and no transfer budget don't support our joint second favourites tag. Hopefully though, Lancaster, Garbutt, Woodforde etc can rip it up in div 1 and Nolan and Nsiala recapture their Shrewsbury form.

Seriously worries about this season.
PL is just a pr stunt man with very little idea who and
Whats going on within his team.
While these were only friendly games the score line and lack of a win say we are mile offer
Where we need to be.
Many town fans i speak to all seem to think we could struggle
this season rather than get promotion.

so we lose to a team mid table in the Bundesliga with some 1st team starters (Prob 4) and the world ends.....
thought our support was supposed to be great and positive??!! or are these keyboard warriors ones that don't actually go and get behind the team?

Ben Knight seems to be progressing well.

I think the next couple of friendlies will tell us more about this squad than the games in Germany. We're light years away from the level of the Bundesliga teams. I'd still like to see at least 3 more signings before we kick off at Burton away.

I find it very strange that in the summer after finishing bottom of the Championship, people on here posting concerns for the new season are lambasted as negative. Doesn't seem logical to me. Take the happy pills they say. I guess that could give you a rose tinted view. Either way being worried is not actually the same as being negative.

Bluewelshman. No need for happy pills, i just dont see lambert as being the answer. Pr wise he has been great. Results on the pitch which is the only thing he should be judged on, terrible. I genuinely hope i am wrong, but i fear come the end of september our results to the start of the season will be average at best.

I know what you mean Jong. Call it negative if you like but yours is a totally understandable mindset.

Beneficial in maybe convincing the owner he needs to deliver on that financial support he promised.

Remember that? Yup, same time he was trying flog thousands of season tickets by dangling carrots in front of us all.
