Much-Changed Team at Notts County
Monday, 22nd Jul 2019 14:58

Town boss Paul Lambert says he’ll field a much-changed XI in the Blues’ penultimate friendly at Notts County on Tuesday evening (KO 7pm).

“We had six or seven players who got a lot of minutes against Colchester on Friday, some of them 90 minutes,” Lambert told the club site.

“We will change it around tomorrow and give a chance to other players to get minutes under their belt.

“Emyr Huws, for one, did well against Colchester in the half hour or so he was on and it’s important that we give everyone a good run out where we can.”

Among those starting is likely to be keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, who joined Town from the Magpies in the summer of 2014.

Midfielder Cole Skuse, who missed out in the 5-0 defeat of the U’s due to a minor hip problem, could return, but Alan Judge is again unlikely to be involved as he continues his recovery from his broken wrist.

The Republic of Ireland international, who is the subject of strong interest from QPR, is due to see a specialist this week.

Gwion Edwards is making progress after his groin problem but is also not expected to be involved yet, while Jon Nolan still hasn’t trained due to the calf problem he suffered at the end of last season.

Teddy Bishop (knee), Jack Lankester (back) and Toto Nsiala (hamstring) are all out until the season proper.

Following tomorrow’s game against County, who were relegated to the Vanarama National League for the first time in May and are close to being taken over, the Blues play their final match of pre-season at Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon (KO 1pm).

I understand the logic but It would be nice to feel like he knew his starting 11 and they got the chance to gel early.

Yep agree with the above, a lot of chopping and changing this pre-season - best of luck whoever plays tomorrow night as they're in for a real muggy evening.

He'll need to change things around, by the sound of it he won't have many players to choose from.........

For me, the squad is still some way away from being promotion contenders - even at League One level. There can be no excuse, we have known about chambers suspension since May. The majority of the injured players have been out for some time. Bishop is injury prone. None of this is a surprise. We need reinforcement and quick.

jas0999. The concern for me is half a dozen players we thought was going to be massive for us this season, have missed by and large the whole of pre season. Not good.

Nice one ITFCsince73, you have just written the front page of P.L.'s 19/20 season of excuses.

Play Skuse alongside his mate Chambers in central defence until Nsiala is fit and Woolfenden considered good enough, then pick an attacking team with two 2 up front.

No disrespect to any players who we have been linked with but this is a mark of how far we have fallen !
We are not building a real push for promotion and getting the club back to its best...... we are just limping along with blinkers on hoping for the best !
Sad times. COYB

Agree with casanovacrow but then I thought that at Col U.

Based on how he impacted proceedings, Huws is every inch the player we have always suspected and will be the key if he stays fit, so whatever PL does to manage him so he can start at Burton is fine with me.

Hot right now in Notts. This week would have been right time to bring in above signings, but not to be I guess

Still so many injuries...what are these blokes made of these days?..papier mache?

Finding it a bit worrying that with just 10 days to go and the likes of Nolan,Huws,Edwards,Bishop,Judge,Lancaster are still not / nowhere near ready for action.

We still need another 3 additions imho.

Big Sam Autobiography:
"When I hear reports of lengthy injury lists at ... clubs, I wonder what on earth they are doing behind the scenes. It shouldn't happen if you get your set-up right, unless you are very unlucky."
The question has to be, do we just just keep on getting unlucky every season or is something going badly wrong behind the scenes?"

Also, in the ordinary world a bad sickness record can be a real barrier to career progression, that is unless you are in the world of professional football where normal rules don't apply! Because our budget (and this is before the additional constraints of League One) has been sliced and diced under Evans we've often had to take risks on players with suspect injury records. That's what happens when you are forced to go shopping in the bargain basement. Personally I would rather we pay extra and go for players that are evergreen in terms of injuries (or at least have a history of turning in a high percentage of appearances over a given season). Just like an employer will often be put off by a potential employee if they learn they have a history of long absences in their previous job(s), I think it would make sense for Ipswich to apply similar caution in the world of football recruitment. Numbers don't tend to lie when it comes to football. Be it number of goals, number of appearances, number of assists, number of yellow and red cards, number of injuries. When you look closely at the numbers you can build up a good picture of what is more likely to happen in the future based on what a given player has delivered / contributed before.

Soclopath what about Evans' excuse this season if we don't go up or even challenge or are you putting the blame on every manager? For me we have the manager who wants to play the right way but we're scraping the barrel for players we still need another striker and definitely a centre half but all lambert can do is scrape journeymen from league two is that his fault or the management of the club itself?

Maybe the surface as Playford Road is the problem. Certain players with continual injury players have left the club and played basically injury free. Williams, Webster and Mcgoldrick spring to mind.
