Lambert: Rochdale Game Looks Like it Will Be Off
Friday, 23rd Aug 2019 11:22

Town boss Paul Lambert confirmed that it looks like Town’s game at Rochdale in a fortnight will be postponed due to international calls.

League One clubs are able to to request the postponement of matches if three first-team players receive international calls at full or U21 level.

Younger levels, such as Albania's U19s, who have called up Armando Dobra, also qualify if the player involved has featured in 25 per cent of a side’s first-team matchday squads that season as the young winger has.

As reported yesterday, in addition to Dobra, Anthony Georgiou has been called up by Cyprus and Alan Judge is in a provisional Republic of Ireland squad with the final party to be confirmed next week, while Andre Dozzell and Flynn Downes are expected to be in the England U20s, whose squad will also be announced next week.

Young keeper Adam Przybek has already been named in the Wales U21s, while Idris El Mizouni is expected to be called up by Tunisia’s U23s or their full squad.

Asked whether he expects the Rochdale to be postponed as a result, Lambert said: “It looks as if it's going to go that way, but we'll wait and see because that's a few weeks down the line.”

We understand that Lambert will look to have the game put back if the requisite calls are confirmed.

Great. One advantage of League 1 was having an interest during the International breaks!

On a personal level? - tickets travel and hotel all booked for Rochdale. To make it worse, I chose this match over England v Bulgaria on the same night and sold my Wembley tickets!!
From the club's point of view? - I can see the sense but are they going to do it in October, November and March too? PL is constantly talking about the number of games this season and I shudder to think about the fixture congestion in the spring...particularly in the unlike event that we win a few cup matches

Come on just play the match!
I'm sorry but our squad should be strong enough to deal with Rochdale. If not we need to have a word with ourselves.
