No Further Business as January Window Closes
Monday, 1st Feb 2021 22:21

No further moves in or out of Portman Road are set to take place before the January transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.

The Blues made two final-day additions on loan for the rest of the season, Tottenham striker Troy Parrott and right-back Luke Matheson from Wolves, while Brett McGavin departed to Ayr United on the same basis.

Parrott and Matheson are the Blues' fifth and sixth loanees - in addition to Mark McGuinness, Keanan Bennetts, Josh Harrop and Luke Thomas - meaning one loan player will have to be left out of matchday squads.

As reported earlier, Salford City showed interest in forward Jack Lankester but ultimately made no formal approach.

Claims early in the day that Kayden Jackson was in talks with Huddersfield regarding a loan were wide of the mark, as was a late report that a £1 million bid had been accepted from the Terriers. The West Yorkshiremen did, however, make a loan offer close to the deadline but too late for Town to consider.

Fleetwood and Doncaster showed tentative interest in Toto Nsiala but without it being progressed.

Jon Nolan was linked with Peterborough, Rotherham, Wigan and Doncaster and there was some interest, however, we understand the Blues received no firm offers for the midfielder.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Jonny Williams has been reunited with his Town boss Mick McCarthy at Cardiff City from Charlton for a fee understood to be below £200,000.

Ex-Blues striker Frank Nouble has rejoined Colchester United on loan from Plymouth Argyle.

Former Blues winger Jordan Roberts joined Motherwell from Hearts on loan.

The only real piece of business I wanted to see getting completed was Lambert getting the heave-ho!

MM signed a Johnny Williams for Cardiff .....injuries dependant that would have been a cracking signing for us

Can't see the point of the striker unless Town go to the long ball or plays 2 upfront.

With these 4 loan players it very much seems we are stuck with Shambert for the rest of the season......................................................................................................................................................................'Im just going outside, I may be some time' (sigh)

Not a lot of interest in our lot then, no surprise there!

You should be able to trade managers and owners :)

Quite a bewildering transfer day but more pleased than dissatisfied. Fresh young faces eager to play is the shake up the squad needs. Over to you Lambert to play the whole team to their strengths, play two up front and the season could yet end on a good note with most clubs dropping points and us stringing a few wins together. Goals win games.

It would only take 3 wins in a row to put us in the middle of the play-off group but therein lies the rub. If we cannot score goals it will not happen. Lambert needs to grab the bull by the horns now, before its too late and change to 4-4-2.
Would, ideally, like to see the following line-up given a run of games when fit.
Holy
Matheson McGuiness Woolfy Kenlock
Thomas Downes Harrop Edwards (use Dozell as a sub for Harrop)
Norwood Drinan (with Parrott getting subbed on)

I am tired of the rest so dont care who is on the bench.

I have nearly the same line up- but I'd start Parrott and bring on Drinan as a sub.
We still have a chance of the play-offs. Just about.

Parrott is a different class to any striker at our club. He must start every game. Regardless of everything else going on recently, this is a great signing and gives us a chance of getting to the playoffs. He will have a positive impact on others too. Welcome Troy and good luck!

Exactly Saxon.

I keep reading posts on here saying we have the best squad in this division.

We really don't.

Loyalty?

No.

They're here because no one else wants them.

It does at least look as though we are making an effort. I just hope that we play to our new strengths, which means not leaving an 18-year-old loanee, however promising, on his own to fight it out with seasoned L1 centre backs. Norwood AND Parrot, please.

So Lambert is staying but ME has at least strengthened us. He obviously thinks Lambert can get us up though all evidence suggests otherwise. Promotion is a must and I'd have preferred a change (Paul Cook.). But I'm interested to see how these lads do and who gets frozen out. Think it's made for 3511 or 352 (or under Lamberts ponderous passing policy more like 541) but who knows. Some good potential here - fingers crossed.

If you can't create chances for your strikers in the first place then nothing is going to really change no matter who you bring in!

Very happy with our business! Marcus has backed Lambert and given him what he has asked for, over to you now Lambert!

The strength of our squad is ridiculous, we now have strength in depth everywhere and real talent. No excuses now Lambert!

Overall, pretty happy that we addressed key areas of concern. My one doubt is Harrop because of his injury record, and because we have about fifty no10s now, but whatever.

The biggest thing for me is that our squad is absolutely huge now. I can't see why we didn't let more players go. PL hates Jackson but made him stay. He's unconvinced by Nsiala: let him go. We can't just keep collecting players, because that makes the manager even more tempted than normal to keep tinkering with his first Xi.

Never mind. I'm sure these will give us a lift, keep PL in a job for a few more weeks until the inevitable happens before the end of the season!

Lambert says he cannot expect to much from kids, so then he signs on loan two 18 year olds. Personally I say get them bedded in ASAP and Baggott also. It is time for 442 or 352 now and with young legs around the pitch it is time for Chambers and Ward to become bit part players.

He can't manage the huge squad he has got now, so why should these new additions be any different. "Deckchairs on the Titanic!"

itfcserbia added 09:50 - Feb 2
Great effort it seems to bring in 4 new loans. Not really smart to bring in one more than allowed in game squad so will be interesting to see who misses out.

On the other hand - these are all kids. Talented no doubt but kids - and kids don't change systems. They don't turn around disgruntled grown men or uplift managers performances. Also this kind of points out to the Lambert staying at least until end of season.

Lambert has now sealed his future because he has all the players at his disposal and he won't be able to hide behind the injuries he has had. If he can't get into the play offs with this number of players then surely ME will have to take notice. Blackpool on Saturday will give us some indication of where we are going. Personally I hope we thrash them but if he plays one up front now it will surely underline his stubborn/tunnel visioned approach. Perhaps he may surprise us, perhaps perhaps perhaps. COYB
