Options Taken on Bishop, Nsiala, Drinan and El Mizouni
Monday, 10th May 2021 18:35

Town have taken up the one-year options on Toto Nsiala, Aaron Drinan and Idris El Mizouni’s contracts in addition to Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien, while the Blues have confirmed that Teddy Bishop’s appearances have triggered a further season at the club.

All five were set to be out of contract at the end of the season but at meetings with manager Paul Cook today were told the club is exercising the one-year options on their deals.

As reported earlier, it appears Jackson and Donacien are being kept in order to secure a transfer fee.

Nsiala, who previously played for Cook at Accrington, was a regular fixture in the games immediately after the new boss took over but having suffered a knock has more recently been on the bench.

El Mizouni spent this season out on loan at Cambridge and then Grimsby, while Drinan made his first senior appearances and netted one goal during 2020/21. It's understood that Brentford have been keeping tabs on the Tunisian international.

Bishop made 28 league starts and eight sub appearances over the course of the season, enough to trigger another year with the Blues.

Town are still in discussions with Gwion Edwards, who is out of contract with no option on his deal, while no announcements have been made on Ben Morris, Bailey Clements, Levi Andoh, Bert White and Tommy Hughes, while Liam Gibbs is weighing-up the offer of a new contract.

Whoever Brentford want, we should want. Best recruiters in the game. Hope to see El Miz in and around our first team next season.

The Drinan decision is baffling. Nowhere near good enough.

Paul Hurst players are in the right league for them and they are only getting an extra year. Drinnan's wages are likely to be very low. Who had heard of him before he arrived?

Drinann and El Mizouni both wasted their opportunity here. Not trusted by loaned to clubs

Whilst on the outside looking is many can question some of these decisions, I do think it makes sense.
I believe Jackson/Donacien and potentially also Drinan will be extended to enable a sell on clause. I don't pretend to have insider information but do know the workings of contracts in this area.
Bishop and others all make sense to me, I am disappointed in Wilso going and especially Nudham, I will though reserve judgement until we see who we sign. I think we have seen 7 or 8 players released plus 6 loans depart and another 3 or 4 set up to be able to be sold. I'd say that is quite a clear out.
I think Nsiala is good enough, Drinan gives a squad option and reminds me off Moore, even Murphy - could turn in to something, get loaned out or a small fee - not really a gamble.
To all those with negatives, let's now show some class, thank those that represented us, support the new regime and give them a chance. I'd suggest as others come in, more will go, we need to keep a team.
Just my view

Just because these people have been given extensions doesn't mean we aren't going to sell them.

After a few years without a ST I was thinking I'd be positive and get one for the start of the new season. New beginnings etc...
After this news I'm thinking that maybe we're not going to be that positive and it's going to be more of a jump start than a new engine. PC needs better than this to bring the numbers back in.

I think what people have to remember is that first of all, not all of the players are terrible. When the balance is off on a team everyone looks bad.
The other thing is that it's important that we have the right players to play in the system and with the style that is being implemented.
In the end, I have to trust that PC knows what he is doing and that he has a reason for each decision and it's all part of the master plan.
The players on the year option are still on trial for a lengthy contract. Clearly Bishop hasn't done enough to get a three year deal, but he has the potential to get it.

It's easier just to keep Drinan for a year than it is to go and buy another striker to sit on the bench most of the season.

Calm down everyone.

It's only day one of the reshuffle.

Those remaining could well be here for backup, to be sold or loaned out.

I'm sure there will be many quality signings to come this summer.

Hopefully a complete new first eleven.

Options taken on Bishop, Nsiala, Drinan and El Mizouni, Jackson and Donacien because if anyone comes in with an offer the club will accept it to cash in, no doubt.

Surely they will get Drinan out on loan for the season and see if he kicks on. If PC is looking at him as a possible starter I fear our goals per game will not be improving. I guess we have to wait and see who he brings in before slating him too much. So far though, a little confused about those staying and going. Not much of a demolition so far though.

Drinan? Sorry I mean dreadful...
It must be his one goal in four years off his knee that earned him a stay.... what a joke...I'm honestly speechless...

Keep calm guys. It's a balance in moving on high salary earners and getting fees for others rather than giving away three quarters of the squad. The true measurement will be who comes in!

Bishop and El Mizouni I would keep. Jackson I understand , but only to get a fee. The rest I hoped would be gone .
Disappointing

Nsiala being a Scouser was predictable. Despite being consistently a liability.

Am I to think that the exciting new arrivals are actually just the players that we had out on loan last season ?!!

Someone mentioned "Drinnan's wages are likely to be very low". Just wondering what low wages for a L1 player may be. Bet no one is on less than 2K a week or 100K a year. I hope whoever we keep / get in, realise that in this area that's a lot of money; they need to work to bring a smile to our faces...

Pleased with this, not sure Drinan has done enough for me, but as I mentioned on another page the retained players have to fit in with Cooks 4.2.3.1 system

Everybody has there own ideas about who should stay or go but it cou!d be about money .ifWilson wanted more money than nsiala only to be on standby then pick toto. Same with others.

Hopefulblue69 I think Kienan Bennetts was our highest paid player on about 17k a week.. followed by Alan Judge on 6.9k a week. The rest of the squad was between 5k - 1k a week.

Tractor_Boy_in_HK added 05:51 - May 11
Relax. Drinan is on less than 1k a week - he's a cheap back up option and I suspect if all goes well will be loaned out.
