Blues Linked With Luton Skipper Sunday, 16th May 2021 10:28 The Blues are understood to be heading the race for out-of-contract Luton Town skipper Sonny Bradley.
Rumours regarding Blues interest in the 29-year-old began circulating on social media yesterday and now the EADT is reporting that Town are currently the frontrunners to sign Bradley, who has been a key man for the Championship Hatters over the last three seasons.
Bradley started his career with hometown club Hull City and while a Tigers player spent time on loan at Harrogate, IK Frej in Sweden and Aldershot before moving on to Portsmouth in 2013 - prior to Paul Cook’s time at Fratton Park - having made only one start and one sub appearance while at the KCOM Stadium.
After one season at Pompey, 6ft 5in tall Bradley moved on to Crawley, where he spent two years prior to another two campaigns at Plymouth Argyle.
In 2018 left-sided Bradley joined Luton, then in League One, on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal which is up this summer. He helped them to promotion in his first season and has been one of their top performers in the second tier in the last two campaigns.
The Hatters have held talks regarding a new contract, while fellow Championship side Preston North End were linked earlier in the year.
As previously reported, Town boss Paul Cook is looking to assemble a squad of Championship standard players this summer and will be looking for a number of central defenders.
Skipper Luke Chambers and Player of the Year James Wilson were among those released, while the Blues took up the one-year option on Toto Nsiala’s deal. However, it’s understood that was in order to achieve a fee for the former Shrewsbury man, while Luke Woolfenden, who is in contract until 2024 with the club having an option for a further season, is another who has been told he can find a new club.
As revealed on Monday, former loanee Callum Connolly is among Cook’s central defensive targets with the 23-year-old having confirmed his Everton departure earlier in the week.
Town may struggle to compete with Championship clubs when it comes to wages this summer with League One’s SCMP Financial Fair Play rules limiting sides to spending 60 per cent of their turnover on wages.

Excuse me "quality not quantity" is what we need

I liked Callum Connolly when he was here, those two would make a good start in building a Team, and turning things around. @brendenward35 makes a good point, what size squad is useful, 18-20, not many more surely?

I marked Burgholtblue up, I thought he was being genuine in his excitement

I don't know much about the guy but sounds like a good signing. Commanding centre back, know the league well. Be good to get a future captain sorted first. Maybe the new owners will risk FFP fines if they have deep enough pockets and want a quick return to the Championship. If as has been suggested we are looking to build a Championship ready squad it feels it will be very difficult without being in breach of FFP.

If this is genuine and not just paper talk and should the deal go through he would be an exceptional acquisition to the squad.I believe Brenden is correct in his assumption regarding a much smaller squad and the wage structure.Fingers crossed this is one of many to join the club.

Am I right in thinking that investment in players from owners (in our case the new owners) dos'nt count towards FFP rules? So if they wanted to invest say a few million, the FFP would'nt be breached?

Naenormalblues you do realise that we have huge wage earners off our bill in judge, Huws etc now freeing up a lot more in wages plus the squad will be smaller this year more quality than quantity. Would be a good signing we need a commanding centre half which as Linkboy13 (apologise for the mark down meant up but fat fingers on my phone) mentioned we haven't had since mcauley this for me is as vital as a 10 goal a season creative midfield player. Get your season tickets in from tomorrow peeps and let's get promoted!!

Hoping that PC will sell him the dream of joining , being club captain and building the team around him and being the catalyst for a promotion season into the Championship!

As said above- sounds like he'd be a good signing. Commanding captain/leader centre half. A DeVos/MacCauley type signing. Remember Bryan Gayle? Came in & did a job for us. Probly looking at 20 adults on £4k each rather than 40 players on £2.1k per head, so defo quality over quantity. Also depending on where he lives, might not have to move house - attractive at that age, kids/school wise. If he's to the east of Luton, he would be able to commute? A selling point over moving to Preston, bristol, blackpool etc ..?

We have off loaded a lot of high wages already, plus the squad was far too big so we will be able to bring in better quality but with a smaller squad which cook likes to have.

The first of the links that actually has my ears pricked. Definitely one to pursue but possibly too good to be dropping back down a level.

He's definitely the type of player we need but can't see him wanting to drop a division at his age.

Is it possible to make signing fees outside of the salary regulations?

I agree with Penn blue we have to do our bit and get our season tickets renewed and get friends and family to do the same, so far I have got 5 others to come back to Portman Road this year , come on let's all make the effort and get Portman Road fortress rocking again , I can't wait

Hers hoping Ed's sponsorship of the shirts is a tidy sum, that season tickets go well, same for shirt sales and that our CEO beefs up the commercial side. Need to maximise that turnover

Anyone know how season ticket sales are going ... and any predictions how many the club are hoping to sell

With the new owners and clear out in progress we as a club at long last are looking like one that players would want to play for as it will be managed(no player power) correctly and showing signs of moving forward instead of standing still apathy, at long last we have lost the good bloke culture that has cost us fortunes and a don't give a toss attitude on the park(just swell my bank account each month) and about time.

We should be aiming to sign sign players higher than this. 6' 7" at least! :-)

Rimsy- yep, you are wrong. We can spend £30m on a player but that's all our wage budget gone. Wages can't be more than 60% off income and that can't include owners shoving millions in. Been watching so many who criticised Evans and now think we can splash out . How dumb are you that you don't understand the rules. We are signing frees and players who cost money but don't have a better offer from the championship. Facts not fiction.
KiwiTractor added 21:40 - May 16
As mentioned above .... why would he want to drop down a division to join us?
Bert added 21:53 - May 16
I don't know anything about this player but I do know that a small'ish club like Luton have done really well to compete in the Championship. Would he jump ship to a bigger club in a lower league ? We will see.
