Siegrist Fee Close to Being Agreed - Report
Monday, 21st Jun 2021 09:55

Town are reportedly close to agreeing a fee with Dundee United for keeper Benjamin Siegrist.

The Blues have been linked with the Swiss-born keeper since May with a number of stories over the last 24 hours claiming an offer understood to be £350,000 had been made and then turned down.

Now Football Insider is reporting that the Blues’ bid is close to being agreed and that all parties expect the deal to go through despite Celtic having shown interest. Reports elsewhere have indicated the Glasgow giants, who have been linked since January, will not firm up their interest. Wigan were also mentioned as among the 29-year-old's suitors over the weekend.

It now appears increasingly likely that Siegrist will be one of the two keepers Town are set to sign this summer with Dai Cornell having already departed and Tomas Holy among those told at the end of the season that he can move on.

Siegrist, who has a year left on his contract at Tannadice, joined the Aston Villa youth set-up when 16 having previously been with hometown club FC Therwil and FC Basel.

While a Villa player he spent time on loan at Burton Albion, Cambridge United, Solihull Moors and Wycombe Wanderers.

Having been unable to break into the first team at Villa Park, the 6ft 5in tall keeper, who has been capped by Switzerland at U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels, moved on to Vaduz in Liechtenstein in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £210,000.

After two years in which he won the Liechtenstein Football Cup twice, Siegrist departed for Dundee United, with whom he won the Scottish Championship in 2019/20, where former Blues keeper Neil Alexander is the goalkeeping coach.

Looking good, now just sign a striker to support Norwood a couple of midfielders and a decent left back and we're talking !!

6ft 5 keeper and a 6ft 4 striker? Has no one told the new owners of our 5ft 9 and under transfer policy?

Who needs to sign this one off before it goes through ? The local Dundee milk man ? The Harper signing has become a joke,so I wont believe anything until he is holding a Town scarf up or in a Town shirt.

"After two years in which he won the Liechtenstein Football Cup twice"

Liechtenstein has a population of less than 40,000 but it has enough teams for its own football cup competition?!

I have no issue with this signing but we are going to get rinsed for fees because every club knows we have a big transfer budget if not a big wages budget. No comment on if he wants to come
Here but suspect illegal as it is the club and agent were talking long before. Not sure keeper was a priority, two new strikers, given Norwood and Jackson are not good enough beyond this level and only average at this one.

Only saw the odd live U23 stream the last couple of years and don't recall if Harry Wright played in any of them, but some may know the answer to this question. Was he poor, average, potentially very good? I was not a fan of Cornell and Holy needs a really good keeper coach but has lots of potential to improve.

Monkeyblue keeps one of the most important position it's the spine of the team and holy hasn't been good enough of you've watched him. For a big guy he doesn't command his box and really not good at de ruin making or coming for crosses so one is needed.
Again assumption being made by you regarding it being illegal?? Where's your proof?? Can you not find anything positive to say

Girojim maybe take your own advice and see what he's like first before moaning about it?? You talk about signings the harper signing etc etc anyone who knows about football knows most signings won't take place or announced until July 1st earliest. Tell me any other club who's made a load of signings in any league?? I'll wait

Saxon - i get your point although not as misleading as saying you like the Dundee goalie when we are actually in for Dundee United goalie. there are not 2 league teams in fleetwood and wycombe etc

Giroud Jim. Why has the harper transfer become a joke? The west Brom CEO has left. So until hes replaces the deal cant be signed off by them. Simple really

Is the Liechtenstein Football Cup like the Boat Race here, where the same 2 sides always get through to the Final?

OwainG1992 added 13:42 - Jun 21
Don't get why people are crying about the Harper deal.
As previously stated so many times there is a change of manager and director of football currently.
Everything is being held up.

Same old Ipswich trait - much talk and speculation, but always have far more trouble getting deals done and over the line than most Clubs.
Some things never change - Do they ? or more to the point - Will they ?

Dog and how many of those are looking at getting another 5 people in? Two of Bolton's are who they had on loan last season again something people are moaning about on another thread. You're predicting the future assuming we've lost this person or that when again most people who follow football know a lot of players cannot sign until July 1st why don't you wait until mid July before panicking?? I've never known a club to come from a huge debt with a disinterested owner who let 20 players contracts run out and been doing it for 14 years to new owners ceo and manager who are clearly interested in getting us back where we belong an and people still predict the future moaning 🙄
