More Championship Clubs Linked With Downes
Tuesday, 13th Jul 2021 13:28

Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City are the latest clubs to be linked with Blues midfielder Flynn Downes.

The 22-year-old is currently training with the U23s having expressed a desire to move on this summer.

Earlier today, AFC Bournemouth were linked with the former England U19 international, while Peterborough and Barnsley had previously been reported to be among his suitors.

Now, according to Football Insider, the Robins, Boro, Forest and the Potters have made their interest known.

Downes was the subject of two bids from Crystal Palace last summer, the highest £1.6 million, and the Brentwood-born schemer subsequently handed in a transfer request.

However, after a disappointing 2020/21 and with the market less than buoyant during this close season, it would be a big surprise if Town achieved a fee at that level.

Downes is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further season.

All clubs with a lot of money. Hopefully we can get a bidding war going as well as a hefty sell on fee

Sell to the highest bidder.Cant beat a bit of competition. How about an exchange deal with the Middlesborough full back that we were interested in.

Bristol City supporting friend has told me that they have very limited funds to strengthen the team. They were also in for Piggott apparently.

It will be a shame to see him go, i think we could have tried harder to keep him. He was always physically hard enough to sort out any bully boys and also protect our brittle midfield. I for one will be sad to see him go but i wish him success and happiness in the future.

I couldn't care less about Downes' new footballing 'home'. He doesn't want to be here so sell him to the highest bidder or stay in the U23s as far as I'm concerned.

Far more faith in Ashton getting a decent price for him thank Evans. 1m at least. Use it to get Crooks in

Wezley53. Not sure what u mean by we could try harder to keep him? We dont have to do anything. Hes under contract essentially for the next 2 seasons. Its therefore up to him to prove he wants to be here, which hes obviously made it clear he doesnt want to be. So he needs to go. The last thing we need at the club are unhappy players. Everyone needs to be on the same hymn sheet.

They are going to be so disappointed, I understand why dozzell got snapped up because he has something you can't teach, downes is just a dogged CM, every championship team has a better version of downes

Let the bidding begin
We have already turned down £1.6 million and the circumstances are still the same. In fact our hand is probably a bit stronger with the new owners coming in
He is a top player still at a L1 Club, so if you want him then let us see the colour of your money !!!
Rotherham are doing just that with Crook, except Downes is going to a higher league where they have much more money !!!
Bidding starts at £2m+ and see who wants him.
Gone (hopefully) are the days where we let players go cheaply or even for nothing

blues 1, i think we could have enhanced his contract and made him feel a bit more wanted because he is a special player who we will struggle to replace.

Good …. Get it done and get shot . Rather have players here who want to be here and are willing to fight for their place .

Young Dobra, is the perfect example of how player at this club should be IMO, and I respect him immensely for his attitude . Notably he's the only one from the “ bombed squad “ to show any desire . It says a lot about him and so much more about the rest of them !

Unknown100 if Dozy got something you cant teach we didn't see it. In my opinion he lacks one thing ability.

Unknown, hear hear, let's see if he's as good as he seems to think he is. Probably be in the reserves for any of those clubs after a couple of months.

I think Dozzell does have ability, but he also has an arrogance to go with it. He may be developed under Warburton but lets see.

Downes is a player every Ipswich fan would want in our team, but seems he doesn't want it, and that's a shame. He could definitely be developed under Cook.

Wish him well, but inevitable he'll move on this summer. I feel it would be good for him and the club.

By being thrown out of any 1st team chance surely Downes has been devalued ,may apply to others in the "bomb" squad. The new style was never tried with the "old " players so no comparison can really be made. BUT we now have a team to move on.
