Town Confirm Fraser Signing
Wednesday, 14th Jul 2021 20:01

Town have confirmed the signing of MK Dons midfielder Scott Fraser on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

TWTD revealed earlier this evening that the 26-year-old Scot, who primarily plays as an attacking central midfielder, had been at Portman Road today to formalise the details on his move to the Blues.

Fraser was still in contract for another year and it’s likely that Town have agreed a high six-figure fee for Fraser’s services. Hull City and Wigan Athletic were among the clubs previously linked.

“This felt right, coming here after speaking to the manager and [CEO] Mark [Ashton],” Fraser told iFollow Ipswich.

“I have seen the players the club have signed recently and it’s a massive club that clearly wants to go places so I’m delighted to be part of it.

“I have always said that I have wanted to play in the Championship and then push on from there but I didn’t want to go to a club a level up just to say I had played at that standard.

“If the opportunity came along, I wanted to join a club that had ambitions to get in the Championship and not just survive, but to kick on from there and when I spoke to Mark and the gaffer here, that is what I took from it.”

Town boss Paul Cook added: “It’s our second signing in three days and I am absolutely delighted.

“Scott is 26 years of age and has played in England for a number of years.

“He was blossoming at Burton and then took it up another level at MK Dons where he was one of the standout players in the division last season. It’s great to have him here.”

MK sporting director Liam Sweeting said: “Scott was a player who did brilliantly for us after joining the club on a free transfer last summer.

“Given how well he did, and that he was entering the final year of his contract, we anticipated lots of interest in him this window and eventually we have got to a point with Ipswich Town where a deal has been agreed that is right for MK Dons.

“This is another example of us trading successfully in a challenging transfer market and with six weeks left of the window, we remain fully focused on bringing the right calibre and character of player that can improve us for the season.”

Dons manager Russell Martin added: “Naturally we are disappointed to lose Scott but we were prepared for this eventuality.

“An important part of our recruitment process is succession planning and we are incredibly excited with both the players that we already have in the building, and those we hope will arrive before the end of the summer transfer window.”

Fraser started his career with hometown club Dundee United during which time he spent a spell on loan with Airdrieonians.

In 2018 he moved on to Burton Albion, then after two years at the Pirelli Stadium departed for the Dons, for whom he made 45 starts and five sub appearances last season, scoring 14 times.

Fraser becomes the club’s eighth signing of the summer and the second this week following the recruitment of Joe Pigott from AFC Wimbledon.

We understand the recruitment of Fraser doesn’t end the Blues' pursuit of Rotherham midfielder Matt Crooks.

What a change having professionals running the club makes, we now have several signings that were in the building before we had any hint of being after them we have a forward thinking club back after years of stagnation.

If he turns out to be like the last Fraser we had here a few years ago, then we are in for an exciting season.

Another piece of business well done without any fuss. Good player. 14 goals from midfield. When did we last have anyone getting half of that!!!

Reports sound positive, great to get him without a long drawn out saga as we have seen in the past. This could well be a fantastic season.

Just hope the majority of us fans can keep our expectations in check, we will not beat everyone 5,6 nil and as said befoore by many others great teams still need time to gel and know eachother.

Onwards and upwards

Well done Mark and Paul getting another quality signing. Looking good my only worried is depth of the quality in the team. Couple of long term injuries could cause us problems and plan goes off the rails. Hopefully our luck has changed

Some people are likening him to Andre Dozzell. Two different players in my opinion Fraser scores and creates goals, Dozzell doesn't do either.

My favourite signing to date. Always liked the look of him when he was at Burton.

Another very good signing that also says to Rotherham to stop messing about with Crooks or we can go elsewhere.

We are looking good up front and as an attacking midfield outfit that It brings the defence into doubt as whether they are strong enough. Another good defender and I will be more than happy.

Are we still in for another Keeper or have we settled on Holy as the backup?

And to think we took him from an EX Norwich player who now is a manager. So beware Rotherham I feel we have other irons in the fire. We just need to keep our enthusiasm in check and believe that the play off's this season should be realistic. If it's the top 2 even better. COYB's.

Let's hope Norwood is taken off penalties now. The one taking them should be the one with the biggest chance of scoring, not the biggest ego.

And there we have it as I said at the beginning of the post you can never praise the club ceo or manager can you monkeyblue just yet another criticism on a good news story. So tell us why this and the 22 goal striker you can find nothing positive to say??
