Chelsea Legends Lampard and Terry Linked
Wednesday, 8th Dec 2021 11:57

Chelsea legends Frank Lampard and John Terry are the latest names to be linked with the Portman Road management vacancy.

According to Football Insider, the Blues have approached Lampard in order to find out whether he might have an interest in the role.

Lampard has been out of work since his Chelsea dismissal in January and was recently in talks regarding the Norwich job before pulling out of the running.

It would seem likely that the one-time Derby boss would be looking for a job in a higher league than the Blues and the link with Town appears speculative at this stage.

The 43-year-old former England international was interviewed at Town in the summer of 2018 when he was on the shortlist prior to Paul Hurst’s appointment but ultimately withdrew his interest in the position. Contrary to subsequent claims, he was never offered the role and later that summer joined the Rams.

Terry, 41, was assistant manager at Aston Villa until July and is known to be looking for a boss's role of his own.

The former centre-half would be a hugely controversial appointment with Town fans and as such it seems unlikely that the Blues’ ownership would go down that route.

The report has seen Lampard move to fourth-favourite in the betting behind Marc Bircham, Neil Harris and Neil Lennon, also linked with the role earlier today. Terry is now joint-ninth favourite at 16-1.

That would work. They've been there & done it at the highest level.

Can't see any of these 2 being that interested.
There are only 37 teams between us & Chesterfield who yop the National League, that is a long way from where I would have thought these 2 want to be.
I think managing Ipswich Town FC is a very attractive position but the reality is that we are in the doldrums and a lot of names that we are linked with will not be interested.
I keep reading about Manning & Johnson, but even with our new owners and supposed big budget, are they really going to leave proven squads to try and make a team out of what we have at present?
I think it may be a while before anyone suitable is available and sadly I am not convinced a new manager will get a big budget to either spend or use to attract new blood in January. Are our American owners just going to write off the money spent in the summer?
At present the signs are not looking good and I worry that we will end up drifting along in league 1 for the rest of the season beating a few teams on our good days and being stuffed by the top 6.

Frank - only got in the play offs due to his loanees Mount, Tomori, etc then got the job at Chelski- my 12 yr old daughter could have managed them into the CL places . Embargo my backside! With 60 odd players about that's hardly a struggle is it? He needs more spending power than we are allowed so wont drop to the 3rd div.
Gary whackit (for all you Mike Bassett fans) no thanks. Mad thug. Id take Lennon over both of them anyday. I think the lack of obvious alternatives is the only thing that kep cook in his job so long. Did an appalling job for us- worse than Paul Wurst!

Don't see what would be controversial about John Terry being
Manager?
Let his football skills do the talking. He has achieved the coaching badges and is keen to make a start in management. He has a wealth of experience at the top of the game and I would imagine he would not suffer fools gladly. Just what we need right now with our pack of under performers who unfortunately cost Paul Cook his job.

Wasnt thrilled at Cooks appointment, nor what he has done in terms of results. He got around a season's worth of games, and had us in barely staying up form. He was allowed to brig in a lot of players tho' who are HIS players. Could make the new manager's job hard, unless the US owners will allow a whole new team to be recruited again. If we are looking at Manning etc- why not Richardson off wigan? We had the mouthpiece now get the brains in. Seems as likely as Slumberland or plastic dons bosses jacking in to join us. Then they would be still (sort of) his players...

i'd rather re-employ cook than any of the top 4 there (lampard aside, but feel that's unrealistic) or terry.

surely we can attract better?

I have no idea of JT would be a good manager but you wouldn't pick a fight with him would you.

Liam Manning has got a lot to offer, already doing well at MK, lots of academy experience and coaching young players, knows. the club, a bit more experience than Marc Bircham. Long term a much better option than a dinosaur like Neil Warnock. He could be hard to prise from MK. Lets face Frank Lampard is not going to step to league 1. I would pass by on JT after the Anton episode , not worth the risk.

I'd be very happy with Lampard. I'm not sure if we could get Lampard in, unless maybe we got him onboard as an owner, that way he'd win big based on our success.
I'd be happy with Terry, apart from not knowing what kind of football he would want us to play.
Liam Manning would be my top pick.

I would happily take Lampard or Terry. JT would certainly instil discipline in these players. They wouldn't dare to come off the field if they had played like they did last night. As asst.mgr at Villa served a good apprenticeship and you have only to look at improvement in Mings to see how he can get the very best out of a player. This would be a great chance for him to develop as a manager.
Lampard did very good job at Derby but moved to soon to Chelsea but while was there he broke the traditional ethos of only buying big name, international stars and successfully introduced their own home grown talent like Mason Mount etc. Could he do the same with our own home grown, youngsters who would wear the shirt with pride, unlike Morsy, Evans and Fraser to name but three

I cant believe I'm saying this but id be happy to let Terry have a go and stick some Fs into the lads that seem to think its ok to just turn up and get paid.

You can't buy success so even if we do push the boat out for the likes of Lampard or Terry, it doesn't guarantee that they'll be successful. Personally don't think Lampard would consider it anyway but Terry might but as soon as a better gig came along he'd ditch us like Ryan Lowe has just done at Plymouth

I'd really like some stability, a manager who is going to be committed to the club and stay for the long haul. We've had enough upheaval in recent years.

Terry would have to do a good job to get better offers, and if he got us promoted it would already be a more attractive job. The big plus is that our owners will probably put some money into the squad if we were promoted.

Not sure about JT. Would be a gamble but I have always felt that he made a real difference at Aston Villa and never saw him try and hog the limelight there. Not heard many names that have excited me so far. Neil Lennon was mentioned though and he has big game experience and knows what it takes to be a winner.

Of the people mentioned thus far I am probably leaning towards either Terry or lennon, we need discipline and fire back in the team and they'd give us that, u just wonder whether Terry might look at his peers Gerrard, ole, Rooney etc and wait for a top end championship or lower prem team

Unhinged_dynamo added 15:13 - Dec 8
Also I know Derby aren't top end championship anymore but that's not Rooney fault

I know the world has moved on since Ramsey took the job at ITFC, but I could see history repeating itself if Terry took on the challenge here with the full support of the owners.

We need a big name to promote club and inspire our squad . Look at what Gerrard has done to Villa in a few weeks .
The abysmal gutless and lack of desire performances that have been regular this season certainly wouldn't happen under Terry and Lampard .
If they do well and gain success to go to a bigger club so be it , it would mean the club would have done well and we will get compensation rather than constantly paying off failures like we normally do
