Chelsea Legends Lampard and Terry Linked
Wednesday, 8th Dec 2021 11:57

Chelsea legends Frank Lampard and John Terry are the latest names to be linked with the Portman Road management vacancy.

According to Football Insider, the Blues have approached Lampard in order to find out whether he might have an interest in the role.

Lampard has been out of work since his Chelsea dismissal in January and was recently in talks regarding the Norwich job before pulling out of the running.

It would seem likely that the one-time Derby boss would be looking for a job in a higher league than the Blues and the link with Town appears speculative at this stage.

The 43-year-old former England international was interviewed at Town in the summer of 2018 when he was on the shortlist prior to Paul Hurst’s appointment but ultimately withdrew his interest in the position. Contrary to subsequent claims, he was never offered the role and later that summer joined the Rams.

Terry, 41, was assistant manager at Aston Villa until July and is known to be looking for a boss's role of his own.

The former centre-half would be a hugely controversial appointment with Town fans and as such it seems unlikely that the Blues’ ownership would go down that route.

The report has seen Lampard move to fourth-favourite in the betting behind Marc Bircham, Neil Harris and Neil Lennon, also linked with the role earlier today. Terry is now joint-ninth favourite at 16-1.

Aren't the 3 Lions Chelsea fans? So this could be true.

blues1 - are you stalking me? You give me the thumbs down for agreeing with Bluearmy's point but don't do the same to him? Noticed the same thing on other threads too...

How about John Terry with Vinny Jones as his assistant. They could scare the opponents into letting us win every match :)

Lampard or Terry would be a great coup for club.
If it's Neil Harris or Bircham ,then I'm afraid we are really scraping the barrel.

In reality although I'd like to see it happen I think it's a loonnnngggg shot - if I hear in the coming days 'in talks' then maybe I'll start believing, more chance of Terry as manager maybe?

Ha! Cant help but laugh. Its never dull off the field eh! After all the comings and going in players during post/pre season......we are now being linked to every manager under the sun. Looked at the betting yesterday and Harris was favourite. Then this afternoon Bircham was odds on. Now its currently Lennon heading the list but Lampard has been cut from 16s to 9/2

I had hoped Hurst would do well (wrong). I thought that the lack of win ratio and negative style of play from Lambert would fail(right). Thought that Cook would be the answer (wrong, harshly dismissed though). So Ive given up on it.......just see where the spinner stops and which mystery manager takes their turn in the hot seat

We stand little to no chance of enticing Lampard. Terry is a definite no. Not a good fit.

Neither of them for me. Don't want to end up another one of these lower league teams trying to pretend we can play like Man City! I don't want egos at our club, whether that be players or managers. Put PC's CV among a list of others but omit names and he'd look like just the man for the job, that's the minefield and extent of the challenge for our owners to get this right.

....anyway, if we make a success of things in the future won't John Terry just turn up anyway?!

Paul Cook won promotion from League 1 once. He was a marginal appointment that might of worked but didn't. Why are some fans still picking over the sores of his whole underwhelming tenure ? Amazing for me to read people saying no to Terry and Carrick as both come from the elite end of the pyramid and know the latest tactics, fitness, training and diet thinking being adopted by Premier League clubs. I don't believe either of them would send us to Cheltenham without preparing the team to defend long throws. The American firefighters need a return on their investment and they aren't going to give any manager the years to get it right like the Cobbold's gave Robson. They are going to be more demanding and I welcome that. The bookies have no morals and are putting up a list of names down the pub for punters to bet on and Ashton hasn't even started interviews yet as far as we know. Hopefully we get a manager who will be able to get this squad performing to the levels we all expected. It might surprise some to know that on the first Saturday of the season we were joint favourites to win the league alongside Sunderland. That was BEFORE we signed Morsy, Celina and Walton. This is a very capable squad and surely the right manager can get them moving up the league.

How attractive is the Town manager's job? A mid table mediocre third tier club that has an alarmingly high turnover of managers. I struggle to see us attracting any of the bigger names supposedly in the running.

No and no! Oh, and No to Lennon too! This appointment is truly the mother of all poison chalice jobs with no guarantees that who ever gets the job will sort it. Given our managerial appointments over the last 20 years, I'm not confident. Cook came with the right CV and look how that worked out! Surely our luck has to change soon?

What the hell is this Bircham thing all about? Just don't get it. Is there some connection we don't know about? Doubt Lampard would be interested. If Harris ex Millwall of course. Like em or hate em if he could instil that Millwall team spirit, belligerence and aggression into our squad results would improve dramatically.

Does anyone remember the last time everyone clamoured for a big name ex premier league player when Evans took over that person was Roy Keane. Just because they may have been world class players doesn't mean they will be as managers. If Terry's so good why didn't Dean Smith take him to Norwich with him? Lampard s a possibility but he spent huge sums of money on players and only just made the playoffs once which was unsuccessful so everyone saying Cook had money to spend but didn't do anything same goes for lampard. There are some experienced managers who could do a job in and out of work. Chris Hughton, Garry Monk, Mark Robbins has taken Coventry and all their troubles from league two to the brink of the premier league as well

BurleysGloryDays you have said exactly what I said the day he was sacked, he even said as much in his last interview. There is no magic wand, Cook was right and I honestly think if the board didn't think we would go through good and bad times to start with, then they don't have a clue. Cook would have turned it around, he had a transfer window coming up and had almost certainly marked potential signings.

This whole business is utter madness. Whosoever takes over will have to start the process all over again, so that's this season gone and the wrong appointment could see us in Division 2.

As supporters all we can do is get behind the new manager and stay behind him, calling for a new manager everytime you don't like a performance is pathetic. Stop doing it.
