Wilshere to Town? Bent Tries to Sell Blues Move to Ex-England International
Friday, 11th Feb 2022 14:50

Blues legend Darren Bent has been trying to persuade currently clubless Jack Wilshere to consider a move to Town.

Former England international Wilshere, 30, has been without a side since leaving Bournemouth after a short spell in the summer.

In a lengthy exchange on talkSPORT’s Drive show last night (see below from 2 hours, 17 mins, 32 secs) regarding where Wilshere might go and play for free, Bent asked the former Arsenal and West Ham man whether he’d consider playing for Ipswich in League One.

Wilshere said not that he wanted to “enjoy football, not in League One, that’s not enjoyment for me”.

But Bent was not to be deterred and extolled the virtues of the Blues’ football under Kieran McKenna.

“It’s not about money, it’s about enjoyment. Would I enjoy playing for Ipswich?” Wilshere continued. “Yes, you would,” Bent insisted. “Full house every week.”

Wilshere eventually asked Bent to send him some clips, which the one-time England striker said he would do and that he’d “get McKenna on the phone”, pointing out that Town have won six in eight since the new boss took over.

Appearing to warm to the idea, Wilshere, who coincidentally was at Portman Road earlier in the season as a member of the Arsenal U21s’ coaching staff for the Papa John’s Trophy tie between the sides, added: “It is a big club, in fairness.”

Honestly not too sure about that if it were true . It's very easy to upset a tight knit group with a former “ big” player …. You also have to ask the question if he's that good why is he still without a club for most of the season ?

Why not ! Experience at the highest level and might be worth a pay as you play to the end of season.

It would be like re-signing that guy Adeyemi or Emyr Huws
One brilliant performance and then never seen out of the treatment room again

Don't even think about it. One of footballs biggest wasters

Nope. Injury prone. Been playing for 14 years and barely mustered 200 league appearances. Unbelievably, given his lack of playing time, goals and assists.....he apparently managed to rack up 34 England appearances...............

You're right ArnieM the better a player is and the more experience they have the worse a player makes your team. That's exactly how football works!

Not for me thank you. Clearly considers himself "above" a club like us! No room for an overrated egotist to upset the apple cart.

Dont really see the appeal to be honest. No doubt a gifted player but how many pieces of the jigsaw would you have to shuffle about to accommodate him

I'd rather have Darren Bent he's fitter. Darren always was a bit of a wined up merchant.

Fat boy Tim. You obviously weren't around when a certain Matteo Serini cocked up the team spirit when he joined the club . Old billy big bollox didn't like playing in the winter months ( coz it was cold and frosty and he didn't like playing on frosty hard pitches ) … he used to play in black tights !

He had the top “ pent house“ apartment( paid for by the Club) in the old Churchman building .
To secure him the Club paid big bucks in wages , which didn't go down well with the previously tight knit squad that had got promotion to the PL . He was divisive in the squad ….but He came with a big reputation and an ego to match ….

So no , I'm not keen on billy big bollox Wilshire coming to the Club. Squad unity is everything, and I think it'd be a big risk! His “ interview” with Dyer is hardly filling me with the impression that he'd bust a gut for the club or his teammates.

He won't come to Ipswich. He's a massive natural talent but league one wouldn't suit him. Yes he's injury prone but so is Burns

Not for me.

He's a sicknote waiting for a club to name a table after him in the treatment room.

Allied to that, I think we already have players better suited to our requirements. We need good, solid workmen with a decent grounding in the game, a bit of nouse, a bit of flair here and there and a good helping of damned hard work.

Wilshere's too flimsy, too lightweight for this division... the opposition would kick him all over the park and out of contention for the next 18 months.

Complete and utter waste of everyone's time and money.

DON'T DO IT KIERAN!

Absolutely right ArnieM. Our tight knit play off winning squad went from finishing 5th in the Premier League (Europe!!) to 18th (Champoinship....) over the course of one season. This happened after the TEAM was disrupted by a few 'big' signings that changed the dynamics, spirit and togetherness of the squad. The importance of everyone being totally on board, pulling in the same direction and fighting for each other is sooooo undervalued.
At the same (with hindsight exactly the wrong) time the club invested tens of millions in expanding the ends of the ground leading to administration and a firesale of the squad when we got relegated.
Marcus Evans arrived to 'save' us and the rest of the last 15 years is now hopefully history......
Over that time the gap between the resources in Premier League and the rest has got bigger and bigger making it almost impossible to bridge now - with some notable exceptions that allow hope to live on.
Hopefully KMc can be one of those amazing managers that can help us to bridge that gap and take our club back to where it belongs.

I trust our manager to evaluate this situation, I am not as gifted as those that already know whether this is a good or bad fit for us.

This should never even be suggested. You'd see more minutes from a clock with no face. The blokes a waste of time.
