Trialist Hudson Agrees to Sign
Thursday, 12th May 2022 20:14

TWTD understands trialist left-back Max Hudson has agreed to sign a professional contract with Town.

TWTD revealed last week that the 17-year-old, who has been with Southern League Division One Central side Hertford this season, had been offered terms by the Blues after impressing during his trial spell.

We understand Hudson has agreed to sign the deal with the Blues in talks with Hertford regarding the terms of his move, which seem likely to be a formality. Hudson will be a member of John McGreal’s development squad next season.

Hudson, who played in Town’s last four U23s games this season, was with Tottenham’s academy as a schoolboy but wasn’t offered a scholarship last summer. As an U15 he spent time at an England training camp.

Town boss Kieran McKenna is likely to be familiar with the full-back having been the U18s coach at Spurs while Hudson was playing for younger age groups.

It’s believed a number of EFL clubs had taken note of Hudson’s performances for Hertford this season with the Blues inviting him to spend time at Playford Road after watching him in a trial match for young players looking to return to the professional game at Needham Market.

MaySixth: I get what you're saying . But try to see the bigger picture perhaps. If this Club doesn't bring in talent outside of the club to further develop , we hamper our own development. If players are good enough they will succeed as they will all now be under the same development team and process . It's up to individual players to embrace it and seize the opportunity.

MaySixth , if this lad looks to be better or more advanced than the player you refer to , thats life. Not really snubbing him .Football is a hard short career, many dont make the grade as a pro.

Maysixth. How is signing this guy a snub to the current academy left back? Even at academy level there has to be competition for places. Tho, if ur talking about who I think u are, then from what I've heard, he's likely going to be released this summer. So it was necessary to sign some1 else anyway.

Depth at u23 level is what we need, alongside a lean1st team squad. Hopefully more like this to come, with 2 or 3 "oven ready "first teamers.

Seen him play twice he's decent but no better than the youngster's we've already got . Lightweight and needs to put on a couple of stone of muscle but that seems to be the Ipswich way we luv lightweight players.

Yes, it's a results based business and there is no time for sentiment, we need to build strength and depth and sticking with those just because they've been with us since a tender age is no way to go. Welcome fella

They obviously think he's good enough for our U23s already. Also Kenlock has left the building and maybe one of current stock is being earmarked for the first team squad. As for his light frame, I'm sure the lad will have a diet sheet and a workout regime for the summer. Look at Gordon at Everton, he'd have blown away in a breeze when he first appeared on the scene. He's now a premier league heavyweight in footballing terms.

Scored a few goals in non-league. We need more players who can score goals. #coyb

Looks first team material already. If he is good enough then he is old enough?
