Town Make Bid For Leeds Left-Back Davis
Tuesday, 5th Jul 2022 11:39

TWTD understands Town have made a bid for Leeds United left-back Leif Davis.

The offer is understood to be around the £1 million mark plus additional cash in potential top-ups.

Newcastle-born Davis, 22, was with Morecambe’s youth set-up as a schoolboy before joining the Elland Road club’s academy in July 2018.

Davis, who is 6ft tall and can also operate as a wing-back and at centre-half, spent last season on loan at AFC Bournemouth in the Championship, making 10 starts and five sub appearances, a move which was initially viewed as a precursor to a permanent switch.

However, injury limited his involvement and he returned to Elland Road before the end of the campaign.

For his parent club he has made six first-team starts and has made eight appearances from the bench.

Town have already signed one left-back this summer, former Morecambe man Greg Leigh, however it had been expected that they would look to bring in a second before the start of the season.

Could be a very sound investment.Let's wait and see what happens.

Would hopefully give us that balance we desperately need on the left hand side. Then ideally invest money in a striker and I think we're set

Good to see we're still active on the transfer front. I would be keen to understand why the permanent switch to Bournemouth didn't happen.

Seems a decent tidy player. Would be a coup if he dropped down levels to us, especially for 1 mill. Think he'll take a higher offer though but I'm guessing there's enough in the price and story for it to be a realistic possibility.

Wonder if the expected extra cash from Downes moving to Palace has enabled us to table a bid for this lad. Happy with this bit of business if it comes off but concerned this is out in the public domain before he has signed

Would pretty much nail Penney's future if this is true. Wont pretend I know anything about the lad, but the rise in quality and given how we all feel about KMs judgement, it will be another step forward if it happens

Maybe Downes leaving will do us some good after all. We are currently mid table in the Third division working within a budget. We need all the help we can get and if that means offloading the likes of Penney who was a free transfer in and has not really proven himself , for an upgrade I am all in favour.

@BaddowBlue1 How'd you know he hasn't already signed?

Leeds have done well the last few seasons. Glad to see we're taking a Leif from their books.

Is that the first time through the £1 million mark in the Gamechanger era ?

Paul. I would imagine the reason the Bournemouth deal didn't go through is bcse they are in the pl and will be looking for some1 more ready for pl football.

I don't like the reference to injury.

@Paulc he didn't perform particularly well at Bournemouth due to injuries

It wouldnt surprise me if that allowed KMc to use Penney as a (more natural) attacking left-sided winger, a position which we not nailed down for a few years now (Edwards has so far been hit/miss).

Baddowblue. Dont think we're in a position anymore where we need the extra money from the downes deal, assuming he signs for palace, before we can bid money for a player.

A good friend of mine is a Leeds fan and he really rates him.He also said he was surprised that Leeds allowed him to go out on loan last season,as he was decent back up for their regular left back.

DO hope there's something in this ; and IF it's the case then without a doubt it'll be the attraction of our Management team and working with KM coupled to the integrity which surrounds everything ITFC right now .
It is ,however , very clear how much careful, planning ahead there's already been - just as we were told early days last season . Let's all trust the plans come to fruition !

Didn't know anything about him before today, but he certainly fits the profile for the type of player Kieran McKenna wants at the club. If he is over his injury problems, this could be a great signing & really solve that left back/wing back problem that we've had for a while.
I hope it happens.

Hasn't played that much 1st team football over the last 2 seasons so a bit difficult to know what to expect...injured for most of 2020/21, played briefly the odd game in the Prem but so did Dominic Thompson!...and I wouldn't have paid £1M for him.

blues1 - brave comment to make about our finances and now being in a position to bid what they want. I must have been the only one who was mildly concerned that Evans wrote off all of the debt 10 months into the accounting period, have our covid lost turnover (£4m) covered by the covid grant (£2.5m) and fulough (£1.5m) only sign 4 players to the end of June 2021, and still manage to record a £7 million loss.
I am just concerned that the debt could spiral like it did under Evans - although this lot appear to be 10 times better than Evans.
As for this player - know nothing about him and will have to ask a friend who supports Leeds when he returns from holiday

There seems to be quality in this player. He has played (and drawn) against Man City in the PL, but has also suffered from injury and no consistent football.
But McKenna is no fool and will have accumulated knowledge from his sources and know what the gamble is.
No one can know until he signs and plays for us. But my gut-feel is good.
