Bakinson Linked With Wednesday
Monday, 18th Jul 2022 12:06

Former Blues loanee Tyreeq Bakinson is reportedly a target of Sheffield Wednesday.

Bakinson, 23, spent the second half of last season on loan at Portman Road, scoring twice in 14 starts and three sub appearances.

The move, which followed criticism of the one-time Luton youngster by Robins manager Nigel Pearson, was with a view to the deal becoming permanent in the summer.

However, the Blues subsequently signed Dominic Ball following his release by QPR, which appeared to end Town’s interest, although manager Kieran McKenna suggested Bakinson could still be in his thoughts after the friendly at Needham Market.

Now, according to the Bristol Post, the Robins are in talks with Wednesday regarding Bakinson making a permanent switch to Hillsborough.

Bakinson has been training with the Robins’ U23s and hasn’t featured in any of their pre-season friendlies.

Not that good, not that bad for Town. Seemed a little reluctant in 50-50 challenges at times. Don't think we're missing out

Not a bad squad player, but I think we've chosen the better option in Dom Ball.

I like bakinson. He's a good player. Think some fans maybe think he isn't bcse he's very similar to Jason dozzell in the fact he has a lazy looking gait, which makes it appear he's not working hard or hes just a bit sloppy. But he does the job he's there for, more often than not. Having said that, I do think Ball is a better option for us, so not really disappointed he not signing here.

He was starting to look the part at the end of last season. McKenna obviously thinks Ball is a better option time will tell we've also got Evans so no need for another defensive midfielder.

I like Bakinson too, who is not totally defensive because he popped up with a couple of goals. He proved a pretty good replacement for both Evans and Morsy last season, neither of whom is likely to be available all the time. He may not be as good as Ball at present, but I think he would be useful as fourth choice ahead of El Miz. He may, however, not want to be fourth choice, and we may not want to pay as much for someone who is only fourth choice.

When u play at the likes of Morecombe or Accrington on a Tues night in crap conditions ul need the Balls and Morseys to dig deep and grind out results

Is this news?
Why are we reporting on a player from another club who ultimately didnt make the grade as we didnt take the option. - Far better players out there.

How about not signing any more defensive midfielders and looking at someone like Branngan to score us a few goals ? Actually at 5ft 9in he doesn't fit the McKenna recruitment criteria of being at least 6ft

Bossman. I'd say it's unlikely we're looking to sign anymore midfielders at all, unless we can come to an agreement with dijon for celina. Which I dont thinks gonna happen.

Apparently he's not good enough for us(he obviously is), but if he ends up at Wednesday he's likely to be at a club that'll finish above us this season and therefore probably playing in a division above us next season. Bakinson's a good player who won me over last season, and for me Ball has a lot to live up to.

We are at the stage of pre season that any frees any good are signed already.
Dom Ball had offer on the table from QPR because they wanted him to stay.
Other Championship clubs showed interest.
McK obviously chose the better player.

A good athlete, good player off the ball, too sloppy in possession for me. I think Ball is a better player as is Evans.
