Blues Among Clubs Linked With Loan Move For Forest Winger Mighten
Sunday, 28th Aug 2022 14:35

Town are reported to be among a number of clubs to have made loan offers to Nottingham Forest regarding winger Alex Mighten.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the Blues, Hearts and Sheffield Wednesday have made loan approaches for the 20-year-old with the Owls in advanced talks and the favourites to make the signing before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Mighten was born in Hartford, Connecticut during his father Eddie’s time working in the US with ESPN. His family returned to the UK when he was three and he grew up in Nottingham.

Having spent time with local side Arnold Town, he joined Forest’s youth set-up where he came through the ranks with support from his godfather Des Walker and ex-Town striker David Johnson.

Mighten, who has played for England at U15, U16, U17, U18 and U20 levels, has made 21 senior starts and 45 sub appearances for Forest, scoring four times.

Town boss Kieran McKenna said on Friday that the Blues could add a couple of players to their squad before the deadline.

"The Blues have been looking for another striker all window - with long-time target George Hirst still among a number of players on the list for that role - while another forward is likely to be the other area where Town are looking to strengthen having looked to sign former loanee Bersant Celina earlier in the summer.

“I think I’m comfortable with what we have. We had 20 outfielders training today, everybody fit, pretty much doubled up for each position and that’s a pretty good place to be,” McKenna said.

“But on the other side, I don’t feel that the squad is too big. I think there are probably bigger squads out there, but at minute we’ve got everybody fit and available so it leaves us in a good position.

“I do think we still have scope for one or two more, it’s not about adding bodies at this stage, it’s about adding little pieces of quality or something a bit different which might add to the squad.

“But that’s something that we’re still working on and have worked on and if it happens and the right player’s available and we can get in the door before Thursday, then great. And if it doesn’t happen, I think we’ve got a really strong squad and a really good spirit and a lot of good things in the building that we’ll look to continue to build on.”

Town currently have 18 players who qualify for their 22-man EFL squad which includes everyone aside from goalkeepers and those aged under 21.

Can't say I know anything about him, but would'nt say a winger is anywhere near the top of our list of prioroities.

Up until yesterday i wasn't one of those fans calling for another striker. But there was a lack of pace and mobility up front. Things improved with the introduction of Harness and Jackson and nearly created a goal. Im not writing off Lapado yet like some have but we need more from him.

On yesterday's evidence, somebody who attacks the ball when defending a corner would be high on the list. That was pitiful. I think Mr Keogh will be getting a debut sooner rather than later. Mighten was half decent when I saw him last season, but I'm not convinced we're desperate for another player of this ilk.

The defense looks like it has a mistake in it quite often.
We also need someone up top because Ladapo is far from the answer.
Can't see where a winger is needed though. As for Hirst, move on, we have faffed about trying to get him all summer. We have just wasted time. I'm not convinced by him anyway.

Town are scoring goals so with a striker up front scoring it's possible we would be unstoppable.

Think Ladapo is a good player and can score at this level but does this style suit him or is he just finding his feet with this system.

Think we need a proven Championship striker.

2 CBs wouldn't go amiss, plus of course a striker with presence, pace and arial ability, (Not Ladapo is the answer), and goal scoring midfielder in the John Wark mould. Thank you .

Weak links include centre left of defence (not much between Fridge and Burgess) and up top. However, I'm splitting hairs, and with the coaching set up, these players will improve.

Rotherham fans said Ladapo couldn't play the lone striker role and from what I've seen so far they have a point. When he was at Rotherham he was playing in a front two with Smith which is completely different to what he is being asked to do here.

Thought yesterday was his worst performance to date, he never really got going. We definitely need another striker and this lad is apparently quite versatile as to where he can play. Whatever we do we've got four days to sort lt!

If we don't sign another central striker this week, handing Joe Pigott to Pompey will look like a bad decision for us, although it seems to be doing him and them a big favour.

its all very well saying he played in a two, but i fail to see how that equates to how poor he is in the air, i can't remember him winning any Ariel battles. He is a big guy and should be winning headers! Whilst there is still time for him to come good i am not convinced with what i have seen so far.

i would still like to see us sign Hirst, i am not bothered with how long the sage has gone on, shows we are competing with other clubs for sought after players!

ArnieM: you say that we need two centre-backs but we have Edmundsen, Woolfenden, Donacien, Keogh, Burgess and Armin. I am told that Ball and Davis can play there. I think that we're covered there!

As for John Wark, I suspect that every club in the country (including Manchester City), would like a defensive midfielder who scores 20 goals a season!

It is not the defence we need to strengthen. Set plays need the whole team to concentrate town concede fewest goals in division so why look at defence it is a striker that we need there where chances on Saturday that a poacher striker would have scored and we did not win a header up front until Jackson came on then he won a few. you can't compensate for bad refereeing but harness and Jackson made a difference to Town after they came on Ludapo doesn't look the answer and we have all known since last season that we need a striker. As for Piggott being good at Pompey 1 goal from a penalty doesn't seem light he is setting g the world alight and now he is on bench most of time pompey fans not that impressed with him they say he lacks movement and cannot hold ball up spooky that's what town fans said

Yeah it would be great to add to the squad but in my opinion we don't need any new additions. Harness is quality and first on the sheet, Jackson brings pace and energy and Lad and JJ will come good. Defensively we are strong and have good cover and the midfield is quality.

My cousin mentioned this to me over a week ago. He's a Forest fan and said he was potentially a really good player but needs minutes. I can't see him playing regularly enough for us. Unless it's someone clearly better than what we have I wouldn't bother.

Linkboy13. This is not a pop at u, just a general observation. But many fans, after the last 3 games have been saying we don't need a striker bcse we're scoring goals anyway? So what's changed on Saturday? We again scored 2 goals( well 3 but for the incompetent ref). Yer suddenly we need one again? As far as ladapo is concerned, he wasnt at his best on Saturday. But then , when pretty much every ball to him was up in the air, with a 6ft5 brick s***house, I dont see what hes supposed to do? Seems odd that last week when John jules was up top we played balls into his feet, but then do that when ladapo up there. Think he just needs a goal, and he'll be fine. Another striker wouldn't go amiss tho. As long as its not Bonne.

guess he'll be loaned to Sheff Wed being up the road. I know a few Forest fans that reckon he is decent. His loss :-)

He's gone to Sheff Wed! Hopefully we can sign 1 or 2 more. I feel they have the edge on us at the moment and a few extra additional quality attacking signings would help us close the gap!

Blues1 what's height got to do with winning headers? The shortest player on the pitch scored from a header.
